The warm temps will be good for creating a consistent base here in the West/Island Park area as some areas are still somewhat baseless. Some areas have a good base here and no longer breaking through to the bottom😂👏
Serious unstable snowpack at the moment.
Whoomping and large shooting cracks today. Played in fairly conservative but the signs were there that it was super risky to expose yourself.

Chris, Where do you get this weather report from? Headed to IP Saturday and would like to keep an eye out on things.

This is a new commercial app that I am playing with this season.
I am trying out several different paid apps trying to see if one in particular is more accurate than the other.
Right now, the last 2 months, all of them seem to be OVERLY optimistic in the 7-10 day range, and then settle in pretty well in the 1-3 day range.
But they still seem to be missing the high altitude snow drops.

The real questions is if 2 ft just gets things back to reasonable so your not playing a-arm roulette. I'm debating in my mind if it'll make it worth riding. This warm weather should settle some stuff out so there's a base so long that it doesn't turn to sugar........

no amount of new snow will ever repair the damage/danger from the OLD snow.
But my experience has been that there is PLENTY of good riding to be had in IP without destroying your sled.
And I for one expect to be riding for the next couple months so long as we continue to get some snow here and there.

Agreed on the damage that’s already been done. Avi conditions are like to remain questionable through the rest of the season.

Wish we lived closer so it wasn’t such a commitment. It’s a tough year for those that take time off work, burn two or more days to travel and all the $$$ to make the trip for minimal base and high Avalanche conditions, it’s a tough pill to swallow. Sad part is everything Wyoming and north and west seems to be in about the same shape. 45- 60 degrees this week isn’t helpfull for keeping the little there is at the lower elevations.

Our group just cancelled the trip we had planned for Feb 11-14th. Forecast still looks good after the heat, but everyone got jumpy about getting locked into sled rentals. Still stuck with the VRBO bill. Everyone is super disappointing. Was going to be many of our first trip out west. No snow in Minnesota either, so might get shut out this year.

Rode Gallatin Forest area Tue-Fri 1/22 = 1/27. Not tremendous snow but not terrible. Steady regular snow up tp Friday filled in some tracks but you noticed them underneath. Friday was a bluebird day that we rode all around Lionshead searching out untracked areas. We rode past the avys seen in that video must have been shortly before or after that avy video was made. Never witnessed an actual slide but we tried to stick to low consequence terrain, saw some cracks and noticed a whoomp or 2. Need a good storm for a reset and will still leave no base. We had our share of issues but no serious injuries and only 1 lower A-Arm on the 2 rentals. The core group upacked the WYS house the same day I flew out and relocated to Kamas UT and have been ridiing good snow there in spring temps.
