2009 XP first ride 10/11/08--good --bad-- and the ugly

Great info, glad to hear the 09's are working so well out of the box.
I know a lot of guys up here that will be thrilled with the improvements.

then again its only been a hundered miles of road riding.. road/trail riding is very forgiving, and why trail riders make it 10k miles and mtn riders make it 1k miles. :P

i dont think the real issues in 08 showed up in that time frame

maybe clutching... but hand warmers and broken drive shafts came along a bit later on?


but it does sound a bit more promising that last years release none the less..
 
update

getting 8000 in clicker 5 with mine and 8100 with VE's in clicker 4--we also put the 09 set up in the 08 and it woke that sled up by about 3 sled lenghts--we are goind to put the 08 shorter pins in both 09's so we have some adjustment--dont like running clicker 5 at any time---sleds run real good for only 60 miles on them--seem to run the same rpms at 8600 feet all the way to 9200 feet with NO clicker change---snow was real heavy and didnt make any difference if you were on the trail or in the untracked snow the rpms stayed the same:D:D-next week we can ride off trail and we'll know better how the clutching works in some powder:eek:
 
I saw you guys riding up Bald Mtn. yesterday isn't it closed except for on the roads?

If you saw him, that means you were there. If you were there, and it was an illegal activity, and you didn't report it - you're an accessory to the crime....:D
 
t.a. keep on posting reports. we had enough snow last wed for road riding. but the pineapple express came in and washed it down the hill. should start snowing over 4000 feet tonite. thanks. ed
 
Be careful out there, one retired dealer I know says he did 90% of his repair business in Nov. and Dec. !!
 
Any experience with the shockwave helix yet? Still looking for a primary set up but no snow here. 08 154"

we havent tried 1 yet --we changed our 08 over to the 09 set up with the ramps and helix--we'll get some better testing this weekend' we can get off the roads and there is 20" snow and a little more on the way:D
 
Update- 11/15/08

THE BAD____have gone to the lighter pins and still cant pull 8200 in clicker 4
THE Good____the pipe and head is a awesome combo
THE UGLY____ jury is still out on the pipe alone

our next step is to doo what BRP SHOULD have done in the first place and go back down to 19 tooth gears on the 154's----the 08 with the 09 clutching pulls away on the hill in powder because the 09 wont pull enough RPM's----yes the 09 clutching works great in the powder on climbs--they hold rpms and pull great and no adjusting for elivation from 8500 to 9100 feet .
we have gone from 12.2gm pins with 8mm set screws to 10.9gm hollow pins and havent gained rpms===my clutch also had some belt slipage with the lighter pins so we are gearing down and adding some pin weight---in my opinnion BRP has a good set up for the clutch but the gearing doesnt work with the clutching combo---on the other hand the 08 with 09 clutching and 19 tooth gears runs real good--
 
T/A, havent seen in this thread if you still have stock gears, but in all the XP's we tested in 08 (about 12) the ones re-geared 20 were never out run by the ones geared 19. Better track speed in climbing and the deep, and better all around speed with the 20!

Our 09s were still geared 21T,for about 2 more days.The 08s are geared 20T.
