2009 XP first ride 10/11/08--good --bad-- and the ugly

What elevation, stock or slp piped, pin weight, set screws, clicker position? We dont even have enough to ride on yet

Turbo...5000-8000 feet, stock engine, SLP complete exhaust, stock pins, set screws measure 12mm long, clicker on 5 at the top, 500 main jets, chocolate brown plugs...not the usual black doo plugs.

Thanks. Any noticeable difference between yours and the wifes? Are the mains stock or did you jet up for the exhaust?

TEST tonight on the HORNS

test 1----piped 09 jetted down to 480 {stock jetting} ran 8200-8300 in clicker 5 which was a 200 rpm gain--it also ran better and pulled harder--out ran the 08 by 1 1/2 to 3 sleds every time-

test 2---- 09 sled back to stock pipe except for the y pipe and it slowed it down 1 to 2 sleds--about identicle rpms--didnt have as hard a pull--also tried clicker 4 and slowed down even more and only ran 7800 to 7900 rpms

test 3---- put the slp pipe back on and clicked down to 3 and pulled good and ran 7900 to 8000 rpms still faster than the 08--then went to 4 on clickers and ran 8000 to 8100 and pulled real good

my honest opinnion the slp pipe kit works and does not loose rpms
the rpm issues are partly gear related and here is why i feel this way

test 4 the sled with the pipe and head rips and we made a gear change and it gained--yes gained rpms--and was 2 sleds further ahead at the end of the field we raced in [ about 800 feet ]i know its not suppose to but our 08's did and so did the 09----

test 5 we clicked the sled with pipe and head to 5 and the pipe only sled will almost beat it --clicker 5 with THIS clutching sucks

so my 09 is gettin geared down for saturday--if these sleds will hit 8200-8300 in clicker 3 or 4 at the most they are veeeeery good

T/A, thanx for the updates as always. I have never been a fan of pipes for mountain riding. Hopefully we can meet up this year as I would look forward to meeting you and yer boy VE. It would be good info to see how your piped sleds run against stock pipes and SHR/RMS/SLIM tuning & gearing. Let's make it happen this year! Unfortunately, I no longer have my XP, but I am fairly confident my wifes SnoJo's XP146 will run with anything out there, would be great to compare notes & set-up's.

Be safe!

would be a good time for sure--we'll see, maybe we can get together for a ride:eek::eek:

Forgive me if I am wrong here, but if I remember right there were some issues in '07 and '08 with crappy tower bushings and rollers. Has anybody had their clutches apart after a couple rides to see how these parts are holding up this year?

Still can't decide between a RMK or XP, just trying to gather all the info I can before I buy next year(leftover '09).

only about 110 miles and they look great--rollers look good,no wear at all and the bushing seems much better than last year---:D:beer;

so are you backin out or we still ridin sometime:confused::confused:

we tested today with the 20 tooth gear and so far so good--ran 8100 to 8200 rpms in clicker 4 at 9200 feet at 24 degrees temp..and pulls very hard, could not test in fresh untracked snow as i didnt snow much this week so we'll have to wait another week for that[ hopefully]---so far im very happy with the new clutching---and the pipe--ONE SIDE note --the slp pipe does not pull as good when the temperature goes above 30 degrees---on the way back our stock 08 was real close at 38 to 40 degrees

dont know if i mentioned that i also have the slp cold air intake which migt be why we can run 480 jetting with the pipe

refresher on set up for my 2009 154 x
slp pipe-y pipe and can
10.9gm hollow pins
480 jets
stock ramps, springs
slp cold air intake
20 tooth gear

PS: gearing to 20 gained 100 rpms at 9200 feet

Has any one had their 09 xp running long enought to get past the break in period, Just checked in with my buds last night, they rode the last three days at revy, I sat this one out because my life sucks but any way. two of the three 09 xp had the dpm crash as it came off break in mode. luckily had one spare 08 xp and another guy stump jumped his 08 xp, so replaced both 09 with 08 dpms and now they run fine again. All three came from same dealer at same time, maybe a bad run but any one else experience this. Not sure what the symtoms were when they acted up either. will check in again tonight and find out
