2009 XP first ride 10/11/08--good --bad-- and the ugly

sleds running good now after ecm fix

So far I think the 09 set up is going to work
the 163 must have a lower gear ratio than the 154
I am running slp pipe, Y pipe, can, and 8-10 head
9-10 feet jetted at 480 no air box have my own cold air intake on currently
short threaded pins clicker 4
Found a good hill to make runs on yesterday
pulling a strong 8100 all the way am going to need about 100-200 more in deep snow dont like the way it runs in clicker 5-6 so i think I will pull a little more pin weight before I go again. If that dont work I will have a 20 tooth gear to try. Sled has a full vent kit and is not bulding much clutch heat.
110 miles on

What did you have to do to the ECM?

Wyoming T/A We're just starting to set up 2 163's from your testing should we gear down to 20 before we even start tweeking the pin weight? We ride anywhere from 6000 to 8000 here and higher in Cooke And Revy? Any baseline starting place would be appreciated!!!

the 2 163x's were my friends and we didnt get to ride with them but the 1 with the pipe and head really rips:D:eek:--the 1 with the pipe has rpm issues--maybe DPM--we'll ck it out and see if it needs to go to the dealer--

short hollow pins for 9000 feet in clicker 4 was 8000 to 8100 rpms and this sled was new--0 miles---gearing was stock with 500 jets--i would think the short hollow pins would put you at rpms in clicker 3 at 6 to 8000 feet

took a quick blast on an 09 xp 154x today, it pulled hard. We were just on a road ride and had gone about 5km and it started smoking from under the hood. He wasnt to worried about it but after seeing the pic of that one that burned on the trail after a road ride I said lets get that hood off and toss some snow in there. We didnt end up putting any snow in and it did cool down and quit smoking but we couldnt really see where it was coming from. Has anyone else experienced this? is it normal and nothing to worry about? he just got the sled and has no insurance so I would hate to see her melt down.:beer;

20 top sproket on my 163 08 a little weight for the primary worked great last season reduced belt temps and held rpm better than the hiway gear that skidoo gave us.also changed gear to 19 top on wifes 154. but with the use of the e.p.i. sec spring mite be able to go up to 20 top.

'09 163" SLP Y pipe, pipe, can, intake - first ride...

'09 163", 0 miles, 5000-7500', totally stock clutching out of the box, SLP Y, Pipe and Can, SLP intake mod... I'm a little conservative so I ran 500 main jets but it's too FAT - fouled a plug - plugs were black and nasty... I'll be putting in 490 main jets for the next ride.

Here's a video of a pull with the clickers in #3 - pulling about 7900/8000 rpm, track speed 42mph...

we could run 470's but we'll stay way safe at 480's at 8000 to 10000 feet

Thanks for all your input on the forum! I was sorry to hear that you hurt your hand - Get Well!

You're right on the jetting - as black as my plugs were I'm pretty sure the stock 480's will be what I end up with... But I'll just pack a half dozen plugs during break in and let the motor have plenty of gas!:)
