xp 800 vs. dragon 800

was talking to my local dealer the other day, also a friend of mine, so no BS. they sold around 130 xp's so far, and have not had any come back with belt issues. the only two that had any problems were 1) 350 lb guy who rides like a monster, and he's had 2 belts go, but does on any sled, and 2)a guy who f'd with his clutches on his own and really f'd them, and he went thru 2 belts before fixing his fix. other than that, no major problems. as for the dragon, it looks to be a great machine, too bad there aren't more of them out there to check reliablity.

Last year my dealer told me something the same about the 07's when I asked if anyone had blown there engine yet, and he said none yet.
Then later in the season when my engine blew they said that they knew exactly what it was and that they had seen a lot of engines with the same problem that year...?
So I basically think they tell you what they think you want to hear so they can sell more sleds.

very true!!

If you are familiar with BRP at all, about 90% of their tachs read 150-200 RPM low. Mine reads 200 low. Therefore, when the tach shows 8,300 rpm it's actually running at 8,100 rpm. That's been true of DOO for quite a few years. BRP's motors(ROTAX) have always turned a lot of RPM to make power.:)

If you are familiar with math at all, a tach that reads 200 RPM low would read 8300 if you're turning 8500 :)

oops:rolleyes: Please forgive. I stated that incorrectly. The tachs read 150-200 rpm high. I'm deeply sorry. I promise to think before I speak. Please forgive me. Sincerly Yours, IkeJon:face-icon-small-win

Where do you get a Dragon? Are the dealers going to get anything but snowchecks in? The dealer here was sold out last spring on the snowcheck deal and said that he was not going to get anymore. I am a walk in and buy it type of guy. If it ain't on the floor I go to a different dealer.

If that is the type of guy you are, you won't be getting a Dragon this year. :face-icon-small-win

Why is Polaris doing that? I have been on different Doo's for the last 4 years but the dealer is 70 miles down the road and the Polaris dealer is right down the street. The Polaris dealer is a stand up guy with a great service man (he helps me with my Doo questions all the time) and I would like to buy a Polaris but I gotta see it, sit on it and walk out with it the same day.
Kinda like the Harley dealer. He said that if I wanted one, I was going to have to order it and wait. Go to a Suzuki dealer and ride out with a Boulevard in less than an hour.

There's always dealers you can do that with, even with snowcheck sleds. Alot of folks back out at payment time. You might not find it at your dealer down the street but I know for a fact some dealers are currently looking for 800 dragon buyers.

some of the guys i ride with have new 08's and they had put 2 teeth taller in them from the factory than what the book said they should have .
put the correct gearing in them and the belt problem eased a bit .
went down to 19 top gears on the 146 ones they were riding and
they added a gram and a half to the pins then to and it made the system rock .
heat gone substantially and a noticable difference on how they spanked me now LOL's , buddies huh

Go ride the sled in the spring. I know a lot of guys that do that. They are just saying that to guarantee you a sled you will have to snowcheck one. There are plenty of times to ride a sled before buying it.

I don't know what you are talking about with Harley. I know I have a large dealer by me, but I can walk in and have my pic of about 100+ Harley's on any given day.

they will all have some trouble, I would go for either. I am leary of POO and cranks after a $2000 ordeal last year. This year 2004 REV. I will ride with a new Dragon and 2 XP's all year so I will post later. G
