xp 800 vs. dragon 800

Rode both sleds today.

Dragon was brand new, XP was broke in (200 Miles) both 163's

Dragon, flawless performance, clutches spot on, zero heat under hood, explosive throttle response, (with oil in the tank), perfect out of the box performance.

Xp ran very well, noticed xp pushes on flat ground very bad, hard to turn on flat ground or hills, do not notice weight difference, xp "feels heavy"

Dragon has far superior handeling characteristics.

After break in, no doubt dragon will eat XP, "Tourqe monster"

Both good sleds.

XP owner qoute "I got f____d, Im getting a dragon! XP for sell!

I have an XP and a 700 dragon. The XP feels way LIGHTER! i can really tell the weight difference on the two sleds.

I have 2 days and 70 miles on the XP, and 2 days 45 miles on the dragon.

all in all i will probably put 500 miles on the xp and 2000 on the dragon this year. Both are awesome sleds, but as far a lightweight feeling and handling, my vote goes to the XP. Predictability and stability goes to the dragon. Power? well i cant give an honest vote... my polaris will hand it to any stock XP out there...

Your comment sounds very similar to a friend's opinion who rode my 800 Dragon yesterday. I, in turn rode His 163 XP and found it the opposite. I think a rider really has to ride the XP for a while to get used to the gyroscopic effect of the clutch to appreciate the sleds weight. On a straight pull it felt very good. Sidehilling and carving the effect of the clutch was very evident, to me anyway. BTW, the snow was very deep. This is in no way a bash towards the XP. The sled runs great and works well in the deep. I guess it is just what a person gets used to.

I know on thing, these 2 sleds work exeptionally well in the deep. Just a few years ago we would not have been in the area we were yesterday, at least not on stock sleds.

XP-Dragon

I had the XP with Sam, Like he said these 2 sleds are incredbile! both go thru the Deep incredibly well.. The XP is an awesome machine it rips.. gets up on the snow instantly and sidehills like a dream.. it is my preference however, the Dragon was very impressive. To me the Dragon felt much wider and heavier however carved and turned great.. Sam however felt jsut the opposite after riding my XP.. Liek he said it felt heavier and harder to turn..

I think it comes alot down to rider preference and what they are used to.. for me the Xp is the only way to go but the Dragon is a close, close 2nd.. only time will tell...

You have to remember that I am an "old" man Stacey. I need that wide and low feeling. Your XP ripped, no doubt. You will change your mind when the Dragon has a little added "breathing" help. LOL.

If you're like the rest of us, its kinda tough to not favor the one you just shelled out the big cash for. Between these 2 great sleds, thats probably gonna be the deciding factor I would guess. If either of them develops any chronic weak spots, the crown would, you assume go to the other, assuming it stays relatively trouble free. So far I'm on the fence, but the BRP guys have got to be a little stressed with all the niggly little nuisance and extra cost items so far, plus the assumption that we don't mind doing the R&D on a product we spent large on. The Polaris, I guess we'll see soon.

Just got in from the Snowies. Had my XP 154X, an '06 M7162, '07 XRS159, and a Dragon 800 163. Great snow with sunshine and NO WIND:eek:. Unbelieveable, eh? The M7 has shaved head, slp can. The XRS, stock HPS can. My XP stock, no can. The Dragon stock, no can. The M7 took a beatin'. My uncle was pretty upset. He couldn't get up the same hills with the two feet of fluff we enjoyed today. Bad running M7? Maybe. But I doubt it. It was set-up be Xtreme in Erie. The XRS ran great. My uncle is 200lbs and I'm 205lbs. I would highmark him by about 30-50 feet every hill, every time. The Dragon was right there with the XRS. We are all very similar is skills and experience levels. On the flats, my XP ate them all up. 51 mph track speed in two feet of pow. That's pretty good;). On the groomed trail, the XP from a dead start was crazy fast. The Dragon gave up one length at the start, the XRS about one length right away and more as we progressed, and the M7 a bunch. But from a 30 mph start, the Dragon and my XP were side by side until we ran out of room. We did this run about 10 times with the same results. At a 30 mph start with the XRS, the XP immediately starts to run away(both of these are "Felker" sleds with Felkers clutching,ie they work!). As for the M7, well it's a 700. Not bad, but it's a 700. The XRS has 670 miles(trouble free!), the Dragon has 59, my XP 105 and the M7 809. The Dragon and the XP will be close. But if mine had been a 163, I think the climbing results would have been different. That's my story and I'm sticking too it!!

BRP could save lots of dough if they hired Lynn to set up clutching. Most Doo's don't put up much of a fight.
The Dragon has room for improvement to clutching all the way through-really needs more helix on the bottom.

I agree. Say what you will about Lynn, but I broke both of my belts in nice and easy and I have zero belt issues. My sled pulled 8,300 rpm all day from 9,500 to 11,000. Ran like a champ!

8300??

Your champ would pull even better if it was clutched for the power the 800R makes. The 800R makes its best power right at 8000 RPM according to all the dyno results does it not?? I would check into it. Maybe you could get it running even stronger if you pulled those RPMs down a bit.

If you are familiar with BRP at all, about 90% of their tachs read 150-200 RPM low. Mine reads 200 low. Therefore, when the tach shows 8,300 rpm it's actually running at 8,100 rpm. That's been true of DOO for quite a few years. BRP's motors(ROTAX) have always turned a lot of RPM to make power.:)

Maybe you can come down and "Teach" Felker how to clutch a sled.....

One of them is really ugly!

Who cares? I will take an ugly sled that kicks *** on the hill any day over a pretty sled that eats belts and doesn't get up and go.

About the sleds, I am not sure you can go wrong with either of them but the belt eating would get old fast.

I love Dragon chassis. That is what I would buy if I had the money.

If mine starts eating belts every 200 miles, I'll trade it to you for your "ugly" sled;). By the way, what is it?

I'm riding an 05 Rev.

I've rode the 700 Dragon and I love it. I am coming off of an 02 800 Cat.

I think both sleds (XP and Dragon) are going to be great. But the XP owners are going to have to get the clutching figured out. If they do, this should be some great competition, as an enthusiast you have to love it.
