xp 800 vs. dragon 800

we have snow to ride in and my buddy has had his XP for a month now. I am still waiting for my dragon till who knows when.

i think its a bad deal the dragons are not here yet,,holy crap, we'll be sno cking sleds for next year in 6 or 8 weeks.. i have ridden about 600 miles so far and would have to think pretty hard about taking a new sled this late..

I do admit that the polaris runs very well wich polaris very much needed for sales. I also know that there is alot of people that have had belt problems with the xp according to the bash fest that takes place on the forums. I have been around snowmobiles all my life and been in a over 40 year family Ski-doo, Polaris dealership. I have seen all of the problems from the ultra days, to the 900 RMK. I believe that most of the problems that people have with sleds is alot to do with abuse, lack of know how, or the guy that will never be happy. I just put the first ride on my XP and was very impressed. Yes I agree that the clutches will run very hot on the xp if not ajusted right . I put only thirty miles on my sled and already needed to raise my belt deflection wich also alowed my clutches to run much cooler. Im not saying that this is a fix for everone but goes to show how simple things can solve major troubles. I also know that the XP is by far the most impressive out of the box Mountain sled I have every rode. After riding with alot of M8's, M1000's and a new 800 Dragon I could not be any happier. The M1000 that had a single pipe and y pipe was the only sled that could pull on my xp but for 200cc's and pipe I thought the cat should be much better than what it was. The dragon was right behind but lossing groung the further the hill got and as far as the M8's all I got yo say is back to the drawing board pretty por showing but maybe they had bad set ups. All in all it should be a great year for sleds because the bar has been lifted.

Holy Cow and drop those pine cones. All this on the first ride and not even broken in yet.

Crap, the 900 Poo didn't even get that far off the showroom floor. I understand the abuse they must have taken just to put on the trailer.

It's time to burn down the ole Arctic Cat and get a new sled.

I think you have a good point. That happened to me once. To h&)) with it if I was you. I would let them work out the bugs and go for next year. This 1 or 1 1/2 months of good riding on an early order machine is getting out of hand. (But smile, they might end up being you're dealer)

I wouldn't bet against either one of them if they are set up properly. They should both be awesome. I rode the dragon a bit and was very impressed with the out of the box performance. They are very very snappy and responsive. I still don't like the super soft feeling of the iq front suspension, but that's a personal issue. These are good times to be a snowmobiler with the new mountain equipment. Heck, even the new nitro looks pretty sweet. I will stick with my cats, but there definitely is something for everyone.

Lets face it the nitro is sweet, and will tow better than anyother machine. It won't highmark quit as good if you look at the numbers but other than that why buy anything else?

Track square inch means nothing if the track doesn't work....... in the steep and deep.
BTW 2.4 lug works a lot better than 2.25.

I have a '07REV, riding partner a 163XP. I have been real hot to get a Dragon 800 next year,I was expecting big things from them. Finally got a chance to see a couple of them run in the deep, one even had a bunch of SLP stuff and both had decent riders. Lets just say that I have pretty much crossed the Polaris off my list, at this point I will either be looking at a XP or most likely keeping the Rev another year. We'll see how they are working by the end of the season, I know it can take time to figure things out.

Come on Tony, you aren't playin the track sq inches card are you?:face-icon-small-winYou can out ride us and out tune us,you can expect our little 154s to be close to a 163 Dragon do you?

I wouldnt be so quick on the draw Winter Brew....I havent done anything to my 800 Dragon but put oil and fuel in it and with shy of 100 miles it has done nothing but spank the 07 800 REV and 07M8 cat. in the deep pow climbs...I cant wait to cross the path of an XP to see a straight up comparison in deep snow.

but at this point all Ive heard from friends that have XP's is how they trench and wont out climb there 06 and 07 REV's....ouch!

and when the moddin is over I see no chance for the doo boys to out climb the ROCKY MOUNTAIN KING!!:D

Ragged

[Ride with those almost every time out , don't want to hype the dragon to much and hope it continues to perform as well against the doo's as it has the last 5 times out in the deep powder. So far the only way an xp can get through the deep stuff and climb to where we go is right behind in my tracks.
When they try to climb in the fresh powder never any better than a Rev.
Which is ok, but not what doo guy's hyped the xp to be .

Do we happen to hear a little "BACK PEDDLING" here???? If you two ever do get the chance to ride together, Please keep us informed......I am real interested!!! No sled is perfect a little positive tuning never really hurt any sled!!

No back peddling at all,I'm not close to the same league rider as Tony nor do I have a dyno and the time to tune that he does!

Exactly true... and dont forget to mention a track design one day will work better than another day all depending on snow conditions. The theory on longer and not wider is for pre-compaction for better grip. I know its all contraversial but in the end i have seen the same sleds trade highmarks on different days with same riders so there is some truth here.

With all his time, knowledge, & equipment Tony helps that horrible local Polaris dealer that you keep bashing every chance you get, Donny. I kinda like having a guy like that helping out Polaris riders. We ride with alot of XP 163" you'd be amazed where both of these sleds can go.
