Overcast today with the sun breaking through, a skiff of new snow in town this morning.

Just a reminder of the Family Poker Run on Saturday the 26th at the Westridge Family Loop trail.

a group of about 20 of us will be riding next week at this time and I can't wait...never rode valemont before...can anyone fill me in on conditions there this year? one of the guys coming out has an M8 with a boondocker turbo that I tried at our local poker rally about a month ago...made me sick when I tried it lol...funny thing is, he only had it at 6lbs of boost when I drove it and I thought it was awesome...the next weekend he got his boost gauge in and bumped it up to 13 lbs and had it out in chetwyn...I heard it kicked a$$...hopefully we have a great weekend...

You will have an excellent time. There are MANY safe places to play in the mountains without exposing yourself to bad terrain

Travel smart and look and test the snow around you. Allan, Clemina and Chappell all offer great areas to play away from avy danger.

Anyone up in the hills should be avalanche educated in some way, even if its a weekend course, dont think that spring is any safer than mid winter with loads of fresh. The sun plays a huge role in natural triggers. You will pick up these lessons from a weekend course, like Zacs Tracs offers

We put ourselves out there, no one makes us go, but we must make educated dedisions, based on the days weather, recent snowfall, and local knowledge.

Incidents like this are terrible, but if one good thing can come, hopefully it will send a buch of up and coming sleddars into a classroom for an avy course.

Well just got home from Valemount an hour ago. All in all it was a good trip didn`t see the sun a whole lot but we still managed to put alot of miles on. My 12 year old put a 3 day total of 365 KM on. He put 138 KM on the first day we rode. It was great to watch him tear it up out there. I was amazed at how well his 87 lbs frame was able to throw that 670 around. We made it all the way back to super bowl in Allan Creek everyday and the last day we even poked into the preimer. I would say there was about a foot of fresh everywhere but by the end of the day yesterday it was getting really hard to find. Will post some pics a little later.

Looks like you had an awesome weekend. By the looks of things, your little guy sure looks like he can hold his own. I am heading up there April 11th......hope the snow is still as good.

Trails are in the best condition of the year, with the colder nightime temps allowing the trail to set up.

Last season we groomed until april 15 and shooting for at least that this year

Still grooming directly from all three parking lots

It is like spring riding out there, but there is lots of fresh to be had if your clever and get off the beaten path

PLEASE be careful out there with all this sun warming, yesterday on patrol,30% of people we checked for beacons were not wearing one and many of these people were in Cleminas Avalanche Alley climbing slopes I would not hit on the best of days! I was utterly amazed. Brand new sleds and no beacons, some folks even tried to lie until I turned mine on to check if theirs were working

Any questions phone the VARDA office at:
250-566-4817 wed-fri(unless fri is a pow day)

Anyone heading up to Valemont this weekend......could you please post snow conditions as I am heading up next weekend and just want the basics at what I am looking at. Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!
