Sledding and Alcohol?

First off, if you bought a turbo kit from one year of alcohol savings, you had a bigger problem than "one or two cold ones on the trail" - so kudos for getting yourself out of that situation.
Having said that, dont say you cannot understand why people do drink when obviously at one time you did ALOT - you see the hypocrytical judgement there?

To repeat others, moderation is the key - be responsible and I have no problem with you.

So, there have been some GREAT comments and some very STUPID comments. But I think consensus shows that we mostly agree to not drink at all or drink very responsibly. Nobody wants to be around or see a drunk, cocky, loud mouth, dangerous litter bugs.

So there you have it.
Now can I go read what's the loudest pipe or I got sponshered? :D

It doesn't mean he used his savings to buy the entire turbo kit. He could have just payed a portion of it with the savings. His wife was obviously just happy that he quit and the amount that they saved was a decent share. And most people would be surprised at how much they spend on it. If you spend 100 bucks a month on beer, thats 1200 bucks at the end of the year. 1200 bucks is a lot of money to save on a turbo kit.

You have to remember that sometimes moderation ISN'T the key. Say you ate lunch at 11:30. You had 2 beers with lunch. Then, at 12:00, you decided to go home. You had 2 more beers at the parking lot. If your aloud to have 1 drink an hour, you've already had 4 in 30-45 minutes. Some people get confused when you say "Moderate the amount you drink". What you should say is okay, have a few beer when you go riding, but drink them over a period of time.

Sorry for nagging on you, but I thought someone had to get this out there.

Wow! I expected a few responses but nothing like this.
:beer;Cheers:beer; To all of you for your responses. I have to agree that everything in moderation is okay. Some people know when to draw the finish line and others just don't have a clue. The ones without a clue are usually just hopelessly trying to impress someone with their Stupidty.
Most sledders I know are pretty responsible people in search of a good time with great friends. If a cold one over lunch adds to their day well good on them. It's not my thing but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be everyone's thing.
A couple of beers on board or not, I'm sure we'd all be there to help each other out when the cards are down. Now if you're $h!tfaced drunk....good chance I'm gonna pass you by.
So let's all raise a glass or two and get busy on the SNOW DANCE!:beer;

Something to think about.....

Before you take a drink while riding remember you might come around a corner and find my 9 and 11 year old daughters riding down the trail. Think about that before you take a drink.

(Note: Don't give us the crap about not riding on the trails, we all use them to get to the real riding.)

It's a balance sport and I choose to not drink; also choose to not ride with drinking riders ... all our lives depend on our "A" game when the shizzle hits the fanizzle. I recall an incident where my crew spent hours trying to get a drunk rider out of a gnarly situation ... he could barely stand, let alone stand on the high-side board to sidehill a couple hundred yards out of a ravine. We finally made him walk out and we rode his sled out for him. In hindsight, he deserved to be left as carrion for the scavengers but I just couldn't leave the clown and his buddy was equally smashed; no help from him at all. Lesson learned I hope, but probably not. :rolleyes: No judgement here ... just my own personal choices.

Well said!!:beer;:D

I've never ridden true snowmobile trails with anything in my blood that will impair my judgment. Now, going out to camp is a little bit different. I won't mind putting a couple brewha's back while im on my way in but i definitley won't ride hammered. Too many of my friends have wrecked their sleds wheelers etc. just because they wanted to have a couple more. Heck just last weekend one of my friends totalled an 05 yammy wheeler when he was sloshed.

Now, if i were riding on the trail and someone wanted a beer or to smoke at lunch or a stop, whatever, just dont get hammered or blazed and leave the weight on me to get you home.

Personally the people I ride with pretty much do it all. Alcohol, weed, pills...you name it. It doesn't bother me as long as they DO IT IN MODERATION. I won't do it though. However, what I don't care seeing is how some of the out of state riders up here come out of the bars and get on their sleds. Heck, some of them can barely walk. I know Mass isn't the most exciting riding area ever, but it's not bad enough to the point that you need to be hammered to ride it. No offense to our Friendly Illinois Brothers, but it seems 90% of them come up here to ride our very unpatrolled trails hammered and from a yooper stand point, wreck them.

Bars in the summer, sledding in the winter....having beers at both!! F all you self rightous piglets....stay home and leave me to die at the top or bottom of some mountain, my choice, my penalty. Those I ride with know the moderation, those that don't could miss a good time, your choice.:beer;:beer;:beer; 3.2/mile;)

I love seeing this thread every year....I know it's about time to get on the sled and ride!!!

WTF??? Icecap didn't start this thread this year???
AND, It didn't hit 100 post's in 24 hrs???

I don't get it, guess I'll have a :beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;

(never exceed 1 beer per 3.2 miles!)

Here's another thought. Read your insurance policy....then consider how you'll feel after a law suit takes your house away 'cuz you were over the limit when you hit someone and voided your insurance.:(

How would you guys feel if I hammered down a 4-pak of red bulls after being up all day yesterday and then worked all nite then jumped in yer truck this mornin' for a 2 hr drive to the riding area? I usually sip on a mickey of vodka over 2-3 rides mixed with a lil monster. Which is worse the first scenario or the second? getting totally loaded or stoned while on a high performance machine is totally retarded and should be kicked right in the nutz...........
