Sledding and Alcohol?

Drink and ride ! NO WAY ! Booze is way to heavy !I do like a puff or two I must admit ,But not to much just enogh to relaxe a bit. I find it helps my riding as I often get to wound up and fight the sled rather than ride it !

Hi my name is BOB and I'm an alcoholic. :beer;:beer;
Oh wait I can't be. I live in Utah. I'll admit I like to haul a couple beers with me. Sometimes I even return with them. Just depends on the day and the mood. I don't drink a beer at lunch to take the edge off I just like to relax and enjoy a beverage of my choice. Maybe all you guys should go picket down at the local liquor store. Or next time you're at a restaurant and see a guy at the next table order a glass of wine, you should go knock him out and take his keys. What an idiotic statement. I hate it when these stupid azz posts throw a blanket on everyone and say we're all drunks because I want to relax and savor a moment with a cold beverage. Which, keep in mind is only a 2.8% Utah light beer. Ha Ha. It's really a matter of drinking responsible and knowing your limits.
I do have one gripe about drinkers and it's the pricks that stomp their cans into the snow so the Rangers won't find them in the sled. And of course the drunks.
Oh and I won't ride with people that do drink too much cuz they have to piss all the time. Ha Ha

Now I feel like a cold one.
Cheers:beer;:beer;

Carry it out

I don't drink and ride and don't ride with those who do because I don't want them drunk when I need my azz saved. However, I am not going to bash those who chose to...they will probably learn the hard way why it is a bad idea. A beer or two on the hill, probably not a big deal...

That said, I can tell you that when our club did the garbage clean up this September up at Baker, the bulk of the garbage...far and away...was beer cans and cardboard beer cases. Please pack it out peeps...we don't need another reason for the greenies to get on us :mad::mad:

Lot's of self righteous opinions here I see. Reminds me of my wife this summer at the lake. I had a beer in my hand when the Game Warden pulled up to check our safety gear. My wife was chewing on me to get rid of the beer. I told her it was not a crime to drink a beer while boating. I quizzed the Warden and he told me "It would be a said day in the USA when you couldn't go to the lake and enjoy a great day of boating without cracking open a beer if you like." I don't support getting sh!tfaced when sledding but I sled 50 days a year and enjoy 50 beers a season. Just do as the label says, enjoy in moderation.

for me i dont drink , also it is a against the law to go over the blood alcohol limit and operate a sled .
personnally i want to be my best when on my sled , and the only way i can do that is not to be IMPAIRED with anything in my system.

I dunno if I would label people as self righteous opinion AA, Just people that don't think they need to drink to have a good time on a sled. If some one Im with has one or two when he is with me and he packs his stuff out, then he will never hear a word out of my mouth about it. But leave your trash or get to hammered to help other people in the group out when they get in a jam and they better be ready for the azz chewing thats coming.
One of the things I think we all need to remember that in the backcountry is that the smelly stuff can hit the fan in a hurry so we need to always be in the frame of mind to handle it. If a person can meet that requirment with a beverage or 2 in them, go ahead, if they can't well then leave it for around the table bull chitting with the group at dinner or the bar after the ride.

If you like to drink a frosty one, ok, but when you drink 12 of them its dumb. My family doesn't ride with the people who get drunk, because if something bad goes down, people will be saying that drunk people got into an avalanche, then they will ask names and people will say that we were there. We don't need that rep. If you going to have 12 beer, at least make it 0.5%. That way you can drink as many as you can stuff into a backpack.

A fact (to you) does not constitute an actual fact!!! Especially, in the examples you use and in it’s context.
It's really an opinion and if you want argue that point it tells me a lot about you!!

Try to contain your self-righteousness. It's not a positive attribute.

QUOTE=Why Not;919360]Nope, I stated that as a fact (to me), not a judgement.
[/QUOTE]

I'll take self-rightousness over inmature or insecure any day. We all got have some negative attributes.

Get drunk no. Have a couple girly shots yes. Nothing serious maybe some schnapps or apple pie (homemade). A shot doesn't hurt anything. Like others have said its a social break. However get drunk at home not on the hill.

Maybe the folks that drink before they ride are the one we laugh at in the parking before riding, you know the parking lot posers, the ones that fall off the sleds or take diggers trying to walk up the trailer glides. or get ready to punch it while still in reverse, that Chit is so funny! Cheers we always need a good laugh!

It is simple ride with guys you are comfortable with that you know can handle themselves. This includes riding abilities and there alcohol consumption. I didnt say they cant or it would be a cardinal sin if they doo. I am saying I have rode with alot of guys that will crack (1 ONE) cold one at lunch to savor the moment. If they have 2 I am OK with that because I know them to be ADULTS and can handle this. Now when we are done these guys can crack as many as anybody else and really have a good time. Does this make them bad HE11 NO. I will have one if the mood hits me but for the most part 99% of the time it waits until we get to the trailer....then its just tradition. Weigh each situation and dont be so dang judgemental.

In the words of the great Homer Simpson "Beer makes a good thing even better"
Within reason,everyone is his own liquer control board.
I do bring a few beer with me on a long ride but dont get $hitfaced and stupified.Just be responsible and there is not a problem
:beer; cheers.

I got you all beat. I don’t drink alcohol while I’m riding and I don’t drink on the way home, and I don’t drink when I get home. I don’t drink alcohol period. Got to thinking about it years ago and could not come up with one good reason to drink..... Lots of thing to drink that taste better, I don’t feel like I need to impress anybody, and I hang with guys that would not be impressed anyway, I live my life in such a way that I don’t need to get away from reality ( I can get relaxed without the use of alcohol), and I don’t need an edge socially. I am perfectly happy being me and the only reason I could come up with to justify why I drank involved insecurities or inmaturity. I decided then to walk away. I told the wife to stop buying beer and to get rid of all the liquor in the house. I took lots of crap for a few years, now I can’t tell you how many guys tell me in secret how they wished they had the guts to do what I did. My house stopped being the hang out for a few months, but before long my buddies found out we could hang and have just as much or more fun without alcohol as we could with it. Most of my buddies have now stopped drinking as well. We even watch the UFC alcohol free. Coming home without alcohol on my breath did wonders for the love life, and my wife let me buy my first turbo kit with the money we saved in a year from not buying alcohol. I don't judge others who drink, but I am convinced if you do your either insecure or inmature.

OK, first of all you must not be that 'mature' if you can't spell 'immature' correctly. It's IMMATURE not INMATURE. And, what if your wife didn't want to stop drinking. Sounds to me like you deal with your 'insecurities' and 'immaturity' by bossing your wife around (and by the sound of it you friends too) instead of drinking.

I'm not a big drinker but people like you who knock those who do drink just annoy me. I'm sure there's something you do that others don't and I bet they don't knock you for it.

Now to the original question - I don't agree with those who get trashed while out riding but if they want to have a beer or two or a nip of whiskey thats fine by me just don't get smashed. I've had my share of beers or nips of whiskey while out riding but they're always kept to a minimum and have never impaired my riding. I, however, will never ride with anybody who has any type of drug in their system. I don't mind hanging out with them but will never ride with them and they know it.

remember that thread from last winter, holy crap that was funny, still think about it and laugh my arse off. I think i shot beer through my nose on that one, alcohol abuse:o

Ahhh alcohol and sledding. Where memories are made, sleds broken and riders dragged home.

Honestly, some of the most extreme moments I have had are when some one gets drunk or high and goes and f’s something up. I tolerate it some but in the last 3 seasons I have got hurt every one with out the consumption of alcohol so why start. When things get to crazy I just leave.

Save your favorite iced beverage for watching the newest sled movies and lets try and keep everyone in the sport alive and make it look a little better too.

Also, its not ok, especially to just drink a few at the end and just ride the trail home. That’s where a lot of people die and I had a person hit me before and they were 100% sober.
