Sledding and Alcohol?

I think its stupid to ride and get drunk, but a sip of buttershots tastes good during the ride. we usually get drunk at the bar when we get back to the cabin, and maybe have one or two shots of buttershots or apple pucker throughout an entire day

First of all i cannot believe that i have just went through seven pages of bull$#^&, and i think that i am now dumber having read it all. C mon guys its not all that hard we are out there to have a good time. If you want to have some beers by all means there is not a problem with that. Just dont get piss drunk and make an *** of yourself. I want my riding partners to be able to react to anything that may happen out there. And if alchohol will interfere with that then i dont want to ride with you. Nothing wrong with a couple cold ones.:beer;
As for those who think that drinking makes you a bad person, get a life. If you have time to B!%^ & and moan about that then you are not spending nearly enough time riding and having a good time. just my .02

ride yer heart all day and when its over and headin back to town ...while yer buddy drives drink as much as you want....we never ride with guys that have a 6 in the trunk ...who the hell wants that liability ???

not me .....and besides if I drop off something and have a big wreck ...the last person I need puttin a C- collar on me is someone that is tuned ...move on buddy move one ..

Well, it remainder fairly civil this year. Just remember that its the internet guys, don't harbour any bad feelings to anyone as they are just opinions.

I'm with the majority on this one, don't mind if guys have a beer or two (max), no biggie to me. I don't sled with heavy drinkers though, inevitably something happens, and like MS8P kid said, I just don't want that reputation association.

For myself, alcohol seems to dehydrate me too much, I would rather have water in my backpack to keep me hydrated as I always seem to be thirsty when sledding.

Typically we ride a good all day ride, coming back to the trailer we always seem to be running later than we wanted and usually we are on the throttle pretty good. Riding the mod sled I always seem to need my "A" game but especially at the end of the day when I am tired and doing upwards of 70 mph at dusk with no headlight, I need to have all my reflexes with me.
To me, the risks outweigh the rewards of drinking. Everyone is different though and this is not me being self-righteous, just my personal preference. I don't judge others, I just avoid riding with them if their actions make me uncomfortable.

good job !!:D

well at least you are good and hydrated, while driving 70+ mph in the dark.
I guess everyone has there idea of what safe and responsible means.

I am not one to disrespect anyone ...but when my sled stops and the sweat begins to cool, clutching an icey cold beverage in my hand in 20 below cold is less than desireable. I don't know how people do that. Alcohol is a depressant. It slows the reflexes. It can't make you a better rider, but can make you tired. I want energy to stay out longer...then when it is safe beer, and pizza is great...or Wine with my steak! mmmmmmm....delicious....

We usually get the beer bong out on the hill and see who can climb the skinny chutes. Quickest chug time gets to poke the chute first. It gets pretty interesting, especially when you ride with guys that never smoke hash either. Peer pressures a b***h. Nothing like a weekend of debauchery to put your life into perspective. :beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer; Is withdrawl bad ? I seem to get these convultions after 3 days of Vodka/Redbull.

ps. If some guys are so worried about their drunk friends not having the capacity to dig them out of an avalanche, then they had better take all that money ( or empties ) they have saved, and invest in an ABS pack ( &/or a turbo ) Who ever that guy was; that was sure nice of his wife to let him buy a turbo, and may he climb higher then ever before ! :D T.G.I.F.

My .02...

Its all about the riding group your going with. Back in Bozo, the guys I ride with all ride very hard. Alcohol doesnt even come into the picture, were all to busy trying to get better and find new spots, and its sometimes hard to stop to have a hot pocket. I usually have a my Nikon in my pack, and would hate to have a dollar can of Miller ruin my equipment.

But when I go back home, I usually ride with family and some older folks. And I'm the first person to ask if we brought the Blackberry Brandy. Usually ride with 5-6 people that just enjoy the family time, and having fun with friends. Have I been piss drunk by the time I get back to the trailor...yes, multiple times. But on these rides no one is trying to "out-do" each other, mostly just putting around on the trails, rippin some medows apart, taking pics making our way to a warming hut. There is no radical racing on the trails, no trying to highmark anybody or trying to jump to the moon. Just enjoying ourselves and trying to make memories, and if those memories involve a bottle of brandy gone before we get back so be it. Because we all had a great time.

What exactly is so great about drinking or using a controlled substance? Isn't the adrenaline rush from riding a good enough high??

Why do some of you need a mind altering drug in order to be happy? Are your lives that pathetic that you need to be intoxicated or high in order to have a good time? Very sad IMHO.:(

Because there are people like you who need something to whine about so that you too can feel important, and don't feel left out.

I dont mix riding and booze, I don't look down on other grown adults for what they choose to do either.

What makes you or anyone else so wise and decisive that you can judge others ? Come on, grow up and worry about yourself. Carry a hickory club with you when you ride so if some drunken fool smashes into you or one of your buddies you don't have to judge or wonder why people do the things they do.

Throw another bag of popcorn in the microwave

Please tell me how asking legitimate questions is whining?

I do look down on people that need to be high or intoxicated and will judge them......I view it as being weak. How can I worry about myself when there may be some intoxicated or high moron out there that can pose a danger to myself, family, or friends? For that reason alone I will judge!!

P.S. I carry something more than a hickory club with me.....

quit worrying about other peoples problems....if a drunk sledder hits you and kills you then it was meant to be. theres nothing you can do to change it....so relax and have fun and quit worrying about other peoples choices

you know I here a bunch of BLAH BLAH here I thinks you are loosing the idea of the post, it all has to do with responsibility on yourself, and respect to others, yes it against the law but so are allot of things, you can have one or two through out a day for most people and be fine, but keep it in check, I have been riding for thirty some years and have seen allot of stupid thing go on, I also scrape you fools up off the ground when you bite it for a living, not to mention I Love my wife and daughter, and expect them not to get mowed over out there, weather its in the mountains or on the road, nothing sends me through the roof more than these guys young or old that come into the parking lot stereo blasting brand new sleds pulling out cases and packing every orfice they can find full, warming up there sleds by racing up and down the lot(real brain surgeons) and off they go, those are the ones that need to chill, dont get me wrong I am not some tree hugging tee toadler, but think about your action to yourself, family and others around you first. Have one or two early in the day have a great ride and go home so we can see you another day in the mountains.

I know if some drunkert smacked into me and messed up my sled he'd be there for a few days before he could see out of his eyes again to ride home.
So if it happens deal with it then, if it doesn't then who cares.

That was the reaction I was going for snow fox lol
