Great idea for getting your wife to ride more.

When I went to I-90 Motorsports to get my wife her sled I made sure they new upfront (With a phone call that she didn't know about) that this sled was for her and they should be discussing the sled with her and not me.
They were awesome, treated her like gold and really made her feel important.
They set the sled up exactly the way she wanted it by describing what kind of rider she is and where she likes to go.
She say's it's set up perfect.
It feels really off to me but it works great for her.
That showed me just how different we are in that area!

I got her the exact sled SHE chose before we even started to look for one.

She's no holy terror on the snow but she has a great time and that's all that matters to me.
She doesn't mind taking a break or staying low on the hill while I play in an area that is a bit above her skill level and never says 2 words about me wanting to have a "Guy Ride", In fact she insists that I go now and then.

Best, most reliable riding partner I have.

I don't have too many pics of her riding because she generally always carries the camera.

My wife likes to ride, just not as frequently as I do. She picked her sled (02 RMK 800 151) and she had it setup for her not me. While I still use it as a backup, it's setup is totally different than my Escape.

Her ideal ride is someplace new and like I've read above, she likes hanging mainly to the trails. Now that said, she will generally either run away from me if in front leading or push me to run faster if I'm leading. She do like speed.

She injured a wrist last season her 1st ride out and it more or less ruined it for her riding the rest of the season. Wrist healed fine, she just couldn't shake the jitters at riding again.

Last weekend Kemmerer got upwards of 2' of snow in town. She had to call me and let me know the sleds started and rode just fine. Seems she decided to pull them out and load up on trailer for me. Well since they were coming out, she figured she might as well beat me to the punch and get her 1st ride in.

Hopefully this season I can get her to back off the speed a bit and ride with me more. I've always enjoyed her coming along though it generally means more work for me. I've never minded getting to her to dig her out or start her sled for her.(She can get it 1st few times, then the 800 kicks her butt)

Sledhead

You must be sooo proud! GP is one rockin little chickie!! :D Those are all great pics!

Having a guy with a smile on his face and encouraging you to ride, and have fun while doing it is what it's all about. Oh, making sure she has a good ride and warm gear is good too!

Then have her hang out with the ladies on the forum....always good inspiration! :p

It takes some time

My wife and I ride with our best friends (another couple). It took a couple of years and some fear for the our wives to learn to just go for it. Now they go pretty much everywhere we go, sure they might get stuck or roll it over but the point is they try it. My wife used to be scared of getting stuck and was always worried about us having to work to get her sled out, I always said &%^$ that, if you don't try it and learn to do it you'll never really have fun riding. Now when we ride with a group of guy's they do great and don't slow anyone down, in fact they get a little cocky which is great.

Wow... This thread seemed to have started negatively but MAN look at the turn around!!! I am AMAZED at all the dudes chiming in about their wives who ride like little demons. And I'm AMAZED by all the guys who support their wives to ride by getting them the right sled and having at least a SLIGHT understanding what a new lady rider goes through. So many of my guy friends are dummies and don't want their girlfriends to ride with them. Granted they don't choose their girlfirends for their athletic ability NOR their adventurous spirit... however, they think 'dragging a chick along would just be annoying'... yet they took the time to teach me how to ride? I dunno... they're silly.

Having your SO be your riding partner can be a KILLER situation. Number one they don't biotch about the money you spend on mods cuase they're right there spending it on their sled too! ;) (I'm a little into mods so that's why that's my first, I know i need to work on my priorities...) Number two: You get to spend killer quality time together out in some BEAUTIFUL areas!! Number three: What better way to grow and learn about each other than when you are in a challenging situation! Not saying you should set her up to fail, or challenge her WAY above her head at all times, but you can tell a lot about someone when the going gets rough!!

And I know it's been said on here, I'll chime in again for the www.ladiesride.com site... somtimes gettin out with the girls can really help a chick find HER passion in riding. You might be a climber, she might be a sidehiller or a jumper, or who knows!! But sometimes your passion and style and OVERLY influence her to think she needs to ride like you, which is so not always the case! getting out with other ladies of all different styles and abilities helps her find her OWN style and then develop a passion for it... Oh ya, while we're on the subject... guys who are getting your wives into riding and seeing her excell... can I just do one little tiny rant on creating a dependent?? If you ALWAYS do all the wrenching and never get her a little involved at what's going on she will never learn it. If it's just the two of you, you get hurt and she needs to ridee for help; would either of you be comfortable with that? Does she know her way around, has she been paying attention, did you take the time to point out a few landmarks? What if she shreads a belt, does she know where her spare is and how to change it (AND adjust it cause sometimes and easy but steep pull can halt someone's progress if their belt isn't adjusted right!)? Does she know where the keys are stashed at the truck, know the nearest place to go to get help, know how to lead someone back in to you and/or how to describe parts or injuries so that the proper gear can be brought back in to rescue your a$$?!?!?!

I know often the dude is better at wrenching and couples define their roles to suit what they're good at. Dude goes out check the sleds over for the day while the chick packs lunch... common deal. And when you get home at night dude unloads and does any needed wrenching while chick cooks dinner... In our house we often pack jerkey for lunch and eat pizza for dinner cause I do all the wrenching but I understand I'm a 'strange animal' as someone posted on a different forum!! HOWEVER. Every now and then, do pizza in the shop, turn the heat up and make a nice night of it. Show her the basics. How to change and adjust a belt, how to change a plug. Common things that can go wrong... You might be suprised how quickly she picks it up! when you're out there, INCLDUE her indecisions... shoudl we go here for such and such reasons, or here? so when she's coming out in a panic she can say, oh ya, I remember this intersection, we didn't go that way cause there is a GNARLY sidehill so I should go this way... I dunno, things like that...

Anyway, sorry for the long preachy post... it's just something I see soooo foten and feel strongly that women are CAPABLE of being knowing, knowledgeable and skillful rinding buddies so don't sell them short and don't mess with your life while you're out there by allowing your tag along -even if it's a guy buddy who is new to teh sport- be clueless!!!

over and out! ;)

Oh and SH, Gp and I were wondering if you knew what you got into by inviting a bunch of WILD women down to Ut to ride with you guys?!?! hehehehehe I'm sure you do after having to 'get outta the way' for GP! thanks for the invite. If it doesn't happen on snow this year it will happen on dirt next year!!

I liked where this tread was going! In my humble opinon 2 muffpots on 1 pipe is always better for him and her. When the pipe cools down the muffpots still have plenty of heat for cooking.

ONe thing I forgot to mention.
Women are born with a pesky little quork. Guys don't have it.
The fact we don't allows us to learn faster because we don't care if we wreck, wipe out or in general make an azz out of ourselves.
That quork is a pesky little gene called common sence.
Guys don't have it, don't want it and find it rather annoying.
Ladies will try things much more hesitantly than guys. We'll just romp on the throttle to see what happens. Once the ladies get over that pesky little quork, they pretty much can rock.

(yes this is inteded as a funny)

hahahahaha that is SOOO true ollie!!! common sense can KILL us sometimes!!! On the flip side though, you get a chick who knows how to ride AND has common sense?!?! yer gonna have one hulluva riding buddy! And, yup, the make an azz of yourself bit, soooo true.... most chicks are pretty nervous about that. I pratice doing it regularly so that it doesn't hinder me when I go after a sport I want to suceed at!! In fact, I belive I made a TOTAL Azz of myself when i had my lack of throttle control incident last winter dropping a cornice! opps!! Oh well, I think the thing that ended up suprising people the most was that I wasn't worried that they might think I was an idiot!! I already KNEW I was! hahahhaa

SH, ya WAY over the limit! Coffee and posting, BAD idea!!!

Well, personal opinion, as a guy who LOVEs deep pow...I have noticed the chicas in our group (my wife cant handle the cold, and yes she has Klim head to toe, and heated socks etc. etc.) have responded INCREDIBLY to just taking time to take pics and post the pics showing how good they look doing cool stuff...

I think that has opened their eyes to how good they actually are...Some, I think see the REALLY extreme stuff and think they are not doing that, and might get discouraged...

Below are two pics of a buddies wife, and she is a VERY good rider, is better than most the guys in our crew (sadly, they moved to Colroado (eagle valley)) but these pics had a profound impact even on her hubby to see she was doing cool stuff!!

as for my wife, I took a different tactic...I didnt push sleds, she was nervous with stuff like sleds and quads, so after some counsel from friend we put her into a Yamaha Rhino, for running around her horse pasture, and now she is comfy with that, and is talking about going sledding time or two...she has seen the fun that can happen in her UTV, and can translate that to sledding...patience, and creativity!!! thanks sledgirl for the idea!!

shhhhh dont tell anyone I said this...but that is cuz most of us guys think we are bullet proof and see ourselves in the mirror as Mr. Olympia....

We believe that no one will notice the stain on the shirt, the tear in the pants, the odor of wearing the same shirt 15x, or that people believe the dog farted and not us...

Would that be "sticking" the landing?

As long as rider was ok, it's all good.

You and I sound about the same.
However, I've only ridden without her 3 maybe 4 time in the past 19 years.
She is my riding partner!!:rose::face-icon-small-hap
She has improved so much with a better machine its hard to be behind her because I get scare watching her get squirrly!! Now I know how she feels!!:o

MT we should get together and do a wife ride this season. My wife is just learning and she gets discouraged easily. Every time we go out with another couple she's always the noob and hates being the weakest link.
I think our wives could help each other out.

I would love to see more couples come on out to our lodge and ride....It gets to be a bit of a testicle festivle (pardon my spelling) ..... my hubby is a guide out in the big horns and when we take a group of guys out they look at him funny when they say I tailgun for him .....

HAHAHAHAHA, thanks SH, what do you have that pic saved somewhere so you can go look at it when you're having a abad day?!?! hehehehe kiddin, it is funny, I still like to giggle at the whole sequence and how I really do look like a rag doll!

Ya VS, that would be stuck, VERY HARD!!! hahahaha I hadn't dropped all year and I got skert when I felt that void in front of me... No throttle means nose DOWN and Skadi rag dolling!! I was fine... I've taken WAY bigger hits before on the rugby pitch! Bruised ribs cause I don't wear a chest protector but hopefully next year I'll have one! In fact, the cameraman who took those pics was hopin to trade the pics for some tekvests... I gotta get back on him about that... cause apparently, in my willingness to make as azz outta myself I carry huge potential to hurt myself as well!! Lucky for me i actually do know how to wreck, doesn't speak much for my skill at riding I guess if I know how to wreck so well huh? ohhh welllll

Revrider... you should update your profile so we know where your lodge is... Maybe I'm stupid but i couldn't find it. I put together some family trips that involve kids AND wives so we're always looking for a good place to go. Your posts on Sawyers thread boosted you to the top of my list, if we can afford it and it's anywhere close to the middle for my gang!!

Glad to see that this thread has turned around even so it was to be a funny. I think there will always be guys not wanting there wifes and girlfriends with them.
