Great idea for getting your wife to ride more.

I strongly agree with a decent sled and proper gear to keep her warm, a older yami will totally wear her out and she will be miserable in the end and not want to go. Spending 5k on a sled and she learns to like is better than thinking dang I hope I don't waste the money. I have a guy friend his wife has a harley, a new sled, and a moto-bike....guess what, she has not rode any of them, but by god if she ever wants to it is there. Buy a used sled, and sell it at the end of the year you won't lose that much on it, and at least you tried. Good luck!!!

Maybe she should just ditch your arss and find a nice supportive guy to have at her side!

Love the picts SH, ATTA GIRL GP!!!!! :D

Oh good lawd"that is a Skadi thing" I agree totally. My man is at my side 100% of the time. I'm ready for when he is not but he is always lookin back and thinkin" wow, here she comes, oh Chit, get out of the WAY!!!" It is patience, whether it be a man or a woman you are waiting for.

We have a winner Bob.

Not real sure who these are directed toward...

Live2ride-you've gotta good point. I guess I'll go ahead and get her a new sled and hope for the best. I guess if I have to sell it at the end of the season it won't be to bad, lord knows I've lost lots more money on much dumber things. If she likes it then it was a good gamble. She has good gear and always says she's happy and having fun but I guess I'm not convinced. I wish I new more female riders that she could go with, I think that it would help her to see other girls out tearing it up. She's really competitive and a phenomenal snowboarder so I know she has the love of snow and the athleticism to ride. Maybe if you guys get a all girls video together I can give it to her to spark a little motivation! Thanks for the advice.

Gear. Warm. I agree 100%. Also Sled set up 100%. Don't push. Always look back and make her feel that you are lookin back. Come back. She'll be waiting.... Don't be mad. She is NOT you. She doesn't ride like you, nor does she want to. Be patient and show her a good time and you'll be surprised with the good time she shows you and the progress she makes each and every ride.

Ride on girlies..........

Hey you Big Hoe:D, all these ladies are coming from ladiesride.com
A huge inspiration for any female. My wife has made friends and drawn a ton of inspiration from this group of cool peeps.:beer;:D;)
And their all welcome to join us for a Utah ride anytime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just for the record my original post was meant to be a funny.

My wife rides in all KLIM gear and a pretty decent sled. I very much enjoy riding with her.

Just a little boredom haha. :)

Another point is don't take her to your favorite spot take her to a EASY spot that SHE will like, no major side hilling, take her on a decent snow day, not to deep or not hard as a rock. Teach her the basics, no stopping on up hill, teach her how to dig herself out by packing down a path and under the track. Show her how to stand up to ride, lean to turn, be one with the sled.....

SH & GP, we are not that far we should hook up sometime.....come for a visit to CO, we are a hour and 30 min from Grand Jct, we could meet on the Mesa!!!!

I miss riding with my wife, we sold her sled when she was pregnant with our little Halle. She always wanted to ride, try and follow me, race me, sometimes end up up-side-down, all that good stuff, but the best thing besides having the best sleding partner, is having the best sleding partner that brings a four course meal!!! Almost time to buy her a new ride:D

I've ridden with a few guys and their wives and I can see why some wives get fed up with fighting with their sled all day and just can't wait to get back the truck and home to a hot bath. From what I saw the sled was not set up for a female rider. Not enough weight on the skis and the sled would just push through the corners on the trails. In another case the girl that was with us was riding a sled with a 163" track. She was all of 5'5" and 110 lbs. Even on the trails she had to stand with both feet on one side of the sled to get it to turn. She was spent 2 hours into the ride. Last year I got my wife on a 2000 Mountain Max 700. It took a ride or two to get the suspension set up for her and the addition of a set of SLP Powder Pro skis. She won't part with that sled for nothing now. She loves it and stays right with me for 60 to 70 miles a day. Take the time guys and get her sled set up for her and you won't have to worry about premature burrito leakage again.
Of course there are exceptions: This was her first time out on the MM700.

my mom and dad always bickered at eachother while out riding, but my mom would always just ride the sled my dad rode before he bought his new ones. he finally took her out to demo a few sleds and she found the one perfect for her and snowchecked it with the options she wanted (electric start, reverse, etc). now dad doesnt have to park 50 feet away across the crowd hoping she wont come to him for help to start the sled or move it for her haha!!

Exactly.....and that's why my wife wanted one of these....half the weight of her 600 Mountain Cat? Time will tell.

If you want her to be there with you, than make it fun for her. And don't assume fun to her should be the same as fun to you. My wife likes to ride the trails and that's about it, and she really enjoys that. I take it easy so she can keep up, and don't take her anywhere that will make her uncomfortable, because that's not fun to her. In return, she has no problem stopping so I can play in a meadow or hit a hill a couple times. I have asked her a few times if she would like to get off the trail or if she's interested in getting a mountain sled. She's just not interested, she enjoys riding the trails and I'm cool with that. She also doesn't mind when I go ride with my buddies without her half the time, because she knows that I live to ride off the trails.

Said it before and I'll say it agian.
Ladies ride different than guys. We have the option to gorilla ride (muscle the sled around). Ladies "generally" have to go straight to finesse ride. We all end up there (if you want to be any good), but ladies have a harder time up front. Once they get it (just like the guys) then they can ride just as well and go everywhere the guys can without any problem what so ever.

The major problem I always see is the guys give the ladies thier "back up" sled. it's not set up for them and it is generally an inferior sled. Put it this way, if you won't ride it as your primary sled, why do you think she should? Get her the best equipment and the best sled you can. At least as good as yours.

My wife rides an 07 dragon, the list of chassis mods is pretty impressive, longer than mine. But it's HER sled. IT's set up the way she wants and feels comfortable to her. She spent 2 years getting pretty darn good at riding. Now her riding is good enough that it scares the heck out of me sometimes. Now, she is the one that says things like "hold my beer, I'm gonna try something".
