Any M riders get to ride the new RMK last season?

"RUFF" "RUFF"..throw this dog another bone!

I can have any sled I want this season. I chose the 2011 Polaris 800 PRO. Please note that Polaris paid me exactly MINUS $10,700 to say so.

gotta do apples to apples,,,,your rmk is a 163 and looks like your m8 is 153, itll make a difference in climbing everytime

Comparing two sleds is never apples to apples. Ski-Doo's have 16" tracks, Polaris' are more tippy, AC's have a little more power on paper, the Yammi's have more torque, etc......

Line a 163 next to a 153 and while their is a difference, it's not like one guy has a foot longer track. That 10" shrinks a bit when it is wrapped around the skid.

Yeah, it's like a 4" difference...and factor in an inch wider track....surface area is VERY similar.

THEY'RE HERE!

It's Carl's provided the sled and it will run their setup and clutching while it's running as a stocker. Fox is supplying an new EVOL shock package specifically designed for the PRO. Holz Racing is doing their front end and some of their special vents. Snowmobile Better Boards is fixing the running boards (it's done) so we can all stay on plus they are doing a bunch of powder coating. GraphicFX supplied the vinyl. We had the panels painted and hydro dipped because I didn't want silver but I liked that seat. Then I will trim and stiffen the track, replace the ugly high fax, add some hand guards so my digits don't freeze, cut down the windscreen so it doesn't break off the first day, remove the bar hooks that grab my backpack straps, add ODI grips, remove the I can't ride crutch/handle, maybe throw on a Digatron datalogger and a motocam 360 system.....and ride the living daylights out of it.

Pretty basic stuff that anyone could do...it will be fun to see how much all of this improves this excellent sled. I'm pretty fired up to try it. We are thrilled to have FOX RACING SHOX join our Performance Partner Team. Gonna give the performance people a chance to develop their engine exhaust go go stuff..then we might add some power. As light as this sled is a good running 8 is pretty fun!

Polaris riders remind me of dogs... If you abuse a dog its still going to come back to its master and wanting their approval.. Polaris has abused its customers with the 900 rmk which made people mad. then they came out with the 800 dragon and polaris people bought it again and again they were mad. Now they have the mighty Pro. only time will tell if Polaris has abused their customers once again. A lot of these poo riders had gone to doo, cat whatever then back to poo for the dragon and had more problems its pretty funny that polaris has its riders wrapped around its finger even though they are not the most reliable company ;)

If any one has customers wrapped around the finger its cat once you go cat you are addicted to nothing but neon color and blinded by it they are the only company that can get there riders to buy gear from underwear to coats plus buy the same sled new every year

In summation

PRO

+
New chassis design with narrow body panels
Lightest sled out there

-
Not the best track
Unproven engine
No anti ratchet drivers

M

+
Proven engine and chassis
Improved ride for 2011
Most power

-
Heavy steering
Older chassis design

For me personally, local Polaris dealer might be the worst dealer ever. However, a great dealer that I used to deal with before I switched to Cat is 90 miles away.

Local Cat dealer that is 5 miles away is very good.

Very tough decision which might require a Pro RMK rental in December before i buy.

If you don't buy a PRO...you would be very wise to buy a used M (that you can dump and not get hurt $) and wait to see what comes in 2012. Polaris raised the bar to an all new level with the PRO...Cat is on the scramble and I think you will see some cool stuff coming from them to compete.

When you ride a PRO versus an M (especially if you are lucky enough to ride one of ours)...it will be a very big challenge to wait.

The best money anyone on the fence will spend is two days worth of rentals or better yet make the effort to do a duel demo ride. A buyers trip where you get to ride both on the same day on the same trip is invaluable! I'm not at all saying that one is an absolute standout for every consumer. Different strokes for different folks!

One thing I forgot to mention about the Cat is if they come out with a new chassis will the old M values tank?

Kind of a bummer to spend 11k on a new M and have it only be worth 7k at the end of this year because a new chassis comes out.

I had a chance to ride it in Alpine last year with some friends. I could get "wordy" technical, but I'm sure others will be happy to have that covered.
Basically:
I was very impressed by it (we were in nasty mash potato snow that day & tree riding mostly). If I had an endless budget I think one would be sitting in my shop right by my Twisted Mini Panther (except it would be renamed to the Twisted Mini Poo of course & have a Twisted Turbo & Kmod Skid makeover, check out some of these performance goodies out at SLC (Motorfist & Backcountry Basics booths) & Edmonton (Twisted Booth) this weekend ;-)). I think either the M or the Pro are great handling and performing sleds out of the box (just different to fit different folks).
The best advice I can give is first find a good dealer (Cat or Polaris)that will let you take out a demo for the day (or take you out, preferably early season) and let you try it for more than a "whiz" across a lake (half day min, full day preferably).
For one thing a dedicated dealer who backs the product will have no problem doing this and not just someone trying to sweeten a sale. Dealer support and the "right fit & feel for the rider" is just as important as product performance stats/specs with this type of purchase. IMO.
