Any M riders get to ride the new RMK last season?

I thought buying a 2nd year sled like I did with the dragon, that any issues would have been worked out the 1st year of production. Which should be the case when anyone spends over $10K on a sled.

I agree, nobody should be taking their brand new sleds in for engine failures. I didn't have any issues, but I'm aware that others did. I'm taking a big chance in the Pro RMK and I'm sure some issues will pop up. My whole point was that the sleds will keep evolving. Nobody has a perfect sled and they will keep getting more powerful and lighter. Who would have guessed that someone would make a sled lighter than the XP?
 
I'd demo both when the snow flies. Then buy the one that suites you best.

So you guys don't think cat has a 2012 chassis change coming? Hmmm:face-icon-small-hap

What improvements would you suggest could be made on the PRO since you rode it and were unimpressed? Also note I would dearly love to test ride your own personal sled if it's available. Sounds like you've got a dandy.
 
Its always up for a test ride! The pro still doesn't hold the hill it still lacking throttle response and still has some track issues vs the powerclaws seems darty also but these are only my issues another rider may see it different! When coming down a hill and flippin a 180 in pow it seemed to want to dive vs my m so maybe it was set up maybe not! Besides im rating it against a 1200 which has huge bottom end torque for pullin out of the hole!
 
I currently own a 2010 turbo dragon and a 2010 turbo snopro 800s and yes the steering is a little tuffer than the dragon but not near as tippy!!and i have rode the new Rmk at cookecity climbed a little with it and wow polaris really made some good changes it kinda reminds me of the skidoo revs..but they still put all the electrical components over the clutch side (to hot) and oil resivoir on the left panel (pita) it should be a intresting year for them but ill sit for a year and see what happens..probably buy another cat to turbo:face-icon-small-hap
 
Martin1200 yes I would now have to agree with you once you're accustomed to significant HP it is very difficult to compare and not be horribly bias. The pro stock can't compare to my personal daily rider either but I felt it was easily superior to the stock 2010 m8 and was night and day above a stock 2010 IQ RAW even with it's inherent track issues. Now also keep in mind I'm talking in all around everyday riding of all conditions we encounter free riding in the NW. All around...not just one or two narrow aspects of riding.

So did you ride the PRO for the Polaris Demo Tour in McCall?

I don't like that the PRO still has a sway bar. I don't much care for it on the IQs. You can really tell its there vs an M.

Anyone know if you can fit a 153 Powerclaw on the 155 RMK rails?

I am coming off the best sled I have ever ridden, my Turbo M1000 and getting onto a Turbo Pro this Winter.
I am full circle now in my Sled Life cycle.
Polaris RMK (old School) to a Summit to an Apex to a string of Cats now back to a Polaris.
Everyone one was a step in the right direction for me, hopefully the trend continues. Only reason I moved to the new Pro was it will be a turbo sled as well. Could be riding a time bomb but we'll see, guess that makes me one of the guinea pigs this winter. But I have had the turbo bug for 3 years now and can't imagine going back. It would be like going back to the level 1 setting in my Diesel. But just in case I might have another Cat in the trailer someplace.
 
I've owned both brands, I currently ride an M series and am very happy with it.

With that said I would avoid the Polaris, but not for lack of ride quality, not because of the power and not for the ergonomics. I would avoid the Polaris because they have built a reputation for poor quality control/testing during the first year or two of new motor or chassis releases. 1

it's what drove me off an RMK and onto an M series.

It's (Pro) such a different animal then the IQ RAW wether or not to run the sway is yet to be determined. Tons will have to do with the shocks and setups guys want.

Carl's sells several cat pc tracks as an aftermarket performance accessory for the Polaris. Requires a bit of work and some additional parts but is a serious performance increase over the stock 5.1. Very popular mod for people that do biz with Carl's.

I understand you do need to change drivers.

I'm wondering how the 2.8" and 3" pitch drivers match up. For instance is the 3" pitch driver a little smaller then the 2.8 so you can get the room to run the shorter powerclaw track (153 vs 155 or 162 vs 163).
 
I think they change the drivers for alignment and slightly shorten the suspension rail tips up front to allow the correct track length fitment.

I personally am very excited to try the stock power of the Pro but with a "BETTER" track option. The sled felt incredibly light and agile but it also had a serious washout feel with the over soft 5.1 which effects the felt accelleration. It was still impressive so the expectation of the same increases we saw from the IQ RAW should be nothing short of awesome!

Glenny, the Pro was night and day better handling in the trees and on the trail than the Dragon for me. AND I as for grunt power, I could tell the PRO was a lot lighter than the Dragon. It did really well in deeper snow and got up on top very quickly. I put it down in some trees in a gully and picked several lines to turn up and climb out of. It was fantastic and held its line like no other sled I've ridden. And I did ride all 3 of the 2010 two stroke 800s in one day also...(2010 SW Powder Challenge)

I thought they put the electronics on top the cross bars above the motor (right in the flow of the hood vents) That's what I remember from the demo ride I took in February and the one I looked at last weekend was still that way.

I would ride it first before you formulate any opinions. Wait til you test one out with those coil shocks before you go trying to remove it.

I got to ride one up at west yellowstone during the expo, no fresh snow so I only got to test in the hard pack.

Handling, kind of hard to tell, needed snow. It was nice on the trails though. Defiantly didn't have the raw power of the '10 m8. Would be interesting to see how it feels in real snow, sometimes it's all about getting the power to the track.

Other then that I just got to focus on the little irritating issues.
They say it will start on the first pull, it will "if" your arms are long enough to pull it all the way out. A half pull won't start it, I had to stand way back on bumper to get her going.

I would like to see this sled really run well this winter and hope it goes well for polaris. Maybe in a few years, if they get up into the 155-160 hp range and it is reliable, I would like one.
 
Polaris riders remind me of dogs... If you abuse a dog its still going to come back to its master and wanting their approval.. Polaris has abused its customers with the 900 rmk which made people mad. then they came out with the 800 dragon and polaris people bought it again and again they were mad. Now they have the mighty Pro. only time will tell if Polaris has abused their customers once again. A lot of these poo riders had gone to doo, cat whatever then back to poo for the dragon and had more problems its pretty funny that polaris has its riders wrapped around its finger even though they are not the most reliable company ;)

And what would you do if you owned multiple Polaris sleds and they never bombed out like the awesome 4M's tell you they do? In fact, the sleds absolutely ripped!

I was one of the Gen II Polaris riders then moved to the Cat and am now going to go to the Pro. Do you really think that Polaris doesn't see what is happening. The way I see it, they threw everything they had into the Pro project, 'cuz they know that if they screw up one more time, especially in this economy, that they might as well close the doors. They have spent alot of time and money to just throw it away. I'm not being a loyal "dog". I rode the Pro, loved the way it handled and decided to get a new Pro instead of a new Cat. JMO

So which is the Toyota of the 2-stroke sled world pray tell? Last year I was towed out once with a spent 800R in my Doo, buddy was towed out once with a fried top end on a Dragon, dude # 3 towed out with exploded diamond drive on an M8 and another with a blown up primary on an M1000. For each brand with a tow-out, there was another 2-3 sleds of that brand that went all season with no issues.

That pretty much covers the 4 sleds that make up the vast majority of the mountain market. the only conclusion to be drawn is that they all break. There are no guarantees with these POS machines, so you might as well pick what suits your riding style. The brand you think is "reliable" still has fair chance of breaking in the 800+cc 2-stroke sled world.
