2013/14 Big Horns N/S Snow Conditions

The snotel doesn't really tell him where it is.

It's up off of red grade road, just guessing but 3 or 4 miles from highway 14. More specifically it's off of copper creek road I believe if you look on a map. Turn off at tie flume campground. If I were to go ride up there id head over to red grade based on how much the snotels are showing on the east side of the mountain.

Bear lodge bumped up their total to 20" at the lodge

We will be parking at Bear Lodge Thursday morning. Looks like the snow timing was good. Tried to regroup and leave today but one in our group couldn't.

New snow great news

Glad to hear new snow is arriving. Bringing my 17 year old for his Second Mountain Ride. I've had him there twice for August ATV excursions. We will be with a friend and his 18 year old son. Any locals want to join us that would be great. Will be riding Thursday through Saturday.

Actually it tells him exactly where it's at longitude and latitude. References are on trail maps.

Just got back from the Horns last night.

Last rode on Tuesday. Monday night and Tuesday morning it snowed about 6" and it was very windy. On the leward side of the hills the snow was good. Very suggary snow under the crust......

Still some good riding to be had for sure.

First year out there for us, we normally go to Idaho. Had an absolute blast!!

Wyoming High Country Review

Just wanted to share the experience we had staying there.

The accomodations were fantastic!

Howard, Cheryl, Dora and Dan are fantastic hosts! Whatever we needed they made sure to make it happen.

The food was out of this world. Every morning we showed up in the lodge, and Cheryl asked us what we wanted for breakfast. She more than accomodated every request. To say she is a great cook is the understatement of the century.

It sure was a treat to have all meals taken care of. The lodge was very comfortable and had a large variety of DVD's to select from.

The riding was really good right from the lodge.

The highs:
Fantastic food
Very friendly staff
Staff with a "We can do that" attitude
Gas right at the lodge 91 octane
Really good riding
Internet

The lows:
I really have to scratch deep to find something
Ok, here it goes: No cell coverage at the lodge. You had to ride about a mile to find any.
If your into TV, you will only find one at the main lodge (Satellite TV), but frankly it was refreshing NOT to have TV. It resulted in some great conversations.

The bottom line:

For our group, we could not rave enough about the staff. The food was 5 star. This place is a food included style, and I am so glad they have it that way.

I would recommend this lodge to anybody and we will be back next year, especially if Howard, Cheryl, Dora and Dan are there.

YOu folks have something special and keep up the good work!!

I would put the lack of cell phone and TV on the HIGH list. Just say'n:face-icon-small-win. Glad to hear you had a great time in the Horns! They are awesome!

Anyone ride on high country side today? We rode around bear found some decent snow but its definetly set up.

Yea, I can see where you might want to put it on either side!! LOL

I thought that would be a big deal, but honestly, it actually forced us to actually talk in the evenings!

Who would have thought that some great conversations resulted!

Thank you!

Jeff,

Thank you so much for this review. Believe me, if there was a way for us to fix the cell phone service we would! The TV issue is noted, but not having you all in your cabin watching the tube every night really allowed us to get to know you!

We LOVED having your group here! Can't wait to see you all again.

Cheryl

Conditions

Sorry we haven't posted in a while, it's been BUSY!

We haven't had any snow since Tuesday, 3.11.14. With bright sun every day since, the snow has set up a bit but people are still finding pockets of great snow.

Hopefully we will get something out of the next system due to hit us tonight and tomorrow. They are not predicting much, but they have been wrong all winter. Maybe they'll be wrong this time too!!

Got in to elkhorn yesterday snow did not look good 50 out.
Went out this morning found a couple spots but all in all the snow sucks all based out.
It was 50 out and a ton of people.
Loaded up n heading home not worth staying for crappy snow.
Just my two cents worth, anybody with a short track will love it.

Really?? Snow sucked??? If i could post pics I'd beg to differ. Yesterday and today we found plenty snow without getting 5 miles from Bear.

Some guys just can't see past the ditches on side of the trail! Glad you guys ventured into the trees where the good snow is.. probably heading up tomorrow to get in on some of the great conditions up there, they are not a 10 by any means but still a lot of snow to be ridden
