2013/14 Big Horns N/S Snow Conditions

1.20.14

Update: the guy caught in the avalanche at Wagon Box was buried for 15 minutes. They dug him out unconscious, resuscitated him and he was in here for lunch 2 days later. Lucky kid!

Put this on your calendar!!!! The weekend of March 15 and 16, our friends at One Stop Motorsports in Powell are going to set up a "Polaris Demo Day" here at the Lodge. They are going to bring out the 2015 Polaris models for test rides, along with some pro riders, accessories and mechanics to help you out with any issues you have with your sled. As always, there will be food specials and beverages on hand. We just might put up a mid winter BBQ for ya'll.

We've heard that the snow has hardened a bit. There isn't much new snow in the forecast, maybe 2-3 inches on Wednesday. We'll let you know!

Avalanche: Hey everyone the guy in the avalanche was my brother and I just want to let everyone know what happened. We were ridig through Wagon Box area and he was leading the group of 4 of us, he rode in just above the tree's below the hill and stopped to look back were the rest of us were. He said he seen we were all there and was just gonna start going again when the snow on the hill let go and instantly through him from his sled. None of us even touched the hill there was not a track on it when it slid we where just passing through below it. In disbelief I looked at the hill again to make sure it was safe and rode in to start searching for my brother. It took an estimate of 12-15 min to locate him with our beacans and get him dug out, he was still breathing on his own but not concious. Within 5 min he regained conciousness on his own. All said and done after a while he rode his own sled back to the lodge to be checked over by the emt's, we are all back home doing well, just very shaken up.
Thanks to all concerned.
Thank you to all involved.
Ride safe my friends and fellow rider's.

Big Horns are junk right now no matter what way you cut it....save your money or head further west if you want good snow.

Wrong!!!! Was up yesterday and found some pretty good stuff. Check the other report and see some pictures of yesterday. Not Epic and definately could use more snow, but I sure would not stay home.

1.26.14

It started snowing at 7:00AM and we have 5" on the ground at 1:50PM. Visibility is challenging. Can't tell you how long it will last, but we will give you an update in the morning!

Be safe.

Did you get anything out of it? NE Montana/ Western N.D. just got a little and the 40-60 mph winds blew it all to South Dakota/Minnesota.

The snow sure didn't end up in mn. I think the 40-60 mph winds carried it all to wi. lol!!

Sounds like the horns might get some middle of the week. I hope so cause we're headed out there soon :whoo:. Some fresh would be nice to ride.

How is the avy situation in the horns? Saw there was a couple of slides. Glad everyone was ok.

The wind could definitely mellow out a bit!

Wanted to ask you Big Horns sledders something.

What is your experience riding this area in March?

Got a trip planned an want to get feedback on general experiences you have had with snow conditions in early to mid March

The calm before the storm???

Beautiful morning today. 20°F and calm winds.

The powder is still around, but tougher to find. Hopefully we will get at least the 16" they are calling for by Saturday morning. If so, this weekend will be amazing!
