2013/14 Big Horns N/S Snow Conditions

I thought about going up today but the forecast of a high of negative 10 with a negative 35 with the wind chill made me chicken out!

LOL!! Don't feel too bad. Was planning on going up Saturday, but am starting to have second thoughts with the high forecasted to be -11 that day.

We have a group heading out to Elk View Inn in Feb. Hopefully there is good snow by then!

Went to the Horns today Bear Lodge side, was cold but found some very good snow!!! I am not 100% sure where we were but by looking at the map I think we went up Big Willow Creek drainage. Followed it up and got way up high up top in the trees and found excellent snow, over the hood in many bowls in the trees. Also founs some good snow not to far west of Elk View up high in the trees. Still have to be cautios of the land mines, but had a blast. Don't have any pics of the great snow, was too busy destroying it!! But heres a few.

On another note, not at all impressed with the new manager at Elk View. I had a buddy and some of his friends that were staying there since Thursday so we parked at Elk View. When we unloaded it was -18 so we went into the restaurant to change in the warm, keep in mind nobody was in there. When we walked in the manager was right there so we asked if it was okay for us to gear up inside. His first question was well, are you guests. I said no, but a buddy of mine and some of his friends were staying there, we were just up for the day. His next question was where did you park? I told him right out back. He proceeded to tell me parking was for guests. I informed him that the majority of the time we are up there we come back and eat lunch at Elk View. His reply was parking was for guest, it gets too congested there. Keep in mind there was nobody on the mountain today because of the cold temps. Then he told us we could change out in the front lobby but not in the restaurant (again, nobody in there.) We have never stayed the night at Elk View, but we have spent a lot of $$$ there, probably not no more.

Unfortunately a lot of us locals will not even stop for a burger anymore! Shows how the places have went down the crapper. Never used to be that way, 6 or 7 years ago everyone stopped and ate, even went up there Friday nights to eat and drink. But glad you found some good snow!

With a manager that has that type of attitude who would want to stay there? I like riding up there, but honestly, the last couple years has been very bad at all three lodges. They are and act like, the only game in town.
