2013/14 Big Horns N/S Snow Conditions

the only time i have been to the horns was in 2011. i was not upset with any service we had. we stayed at bear, and while it was nothing to brag about, i have nothing to complain about either. one day we went way out west to high country lodge (i think it was called). we ate, had a pop/beer, and were more than happy to sit around the big azz fire place and enjoy a warm meal.

With a manager that has that type of attitude who would want to stay there? I like riding up there, but honestly, the last couple years has been very bad at all three lodges. They are and act like, the only game in town.

Yeah, and unfortunately on the east side they are the only game in town. I do not think having all 3 lodges owned by the same people is a good thing for we the consumer because no matter what they are gonna get your $$$ unless we all go back to the old days of packing sandwiches and just riding all day. Which I really have no problem with, although it is nice on cold days like yesterday to go back somewhere and warm up. Needless to say we did not eat lunch at Elk View yesterday due to the morning experience, but in the end the same person got my $$$ anyways. We need a lodge on the east side owned by someone else that will provide some competition, maybe that would step up the service. Anyone wanna start up a lodge with me???:face-icon-small-ton

If you call it "SNOWMOW'S" they will come.

Arrowhead lodge is for sale only a cool 800,000 and u have urself a lodge. If I didn't have kids I would try it but I am not going to drive them down to school everyday.

Elk View

I thought some big time east cost money owned Elk view. Then somehow the bear lodge guy got into some deal where he managed it and got some money but did not own it. Maybe I am wrong.

$800,000 for Arrowhead? So it's not really for sale! I do believe they paid about $250,00 for it a couple years ago at auction. They bought Elk mainly because of the new motel and it was the only lodge on private land. Me and a friend of mine had considered buying Elk but neither of us could have left our businesses and would have had to hire a manager. We both knew the hardest part of running a business is managing the hire help so we backed away.

We did find some really good snow, had to look for it though. Honestly still not sure about a 6-7hr drive yet. Will depend on what happens this week. They are supposed to get some more, not sure on how much. It is supposed to warm up some up there as well. My buddy that got up there Thursday night and stayed till Sunday came from Culbertson MT, he had a blast. So I guess it just depends on how much you like to drive. As I said earlier, you do still have to be carefull, I whacked a few landmines, thankfully nothing to hard and no damage.

Well, I don't particularly like to run down businesses on an internet forum. But here we sit, snotel sites are currently not working and we have had no snow updates from any of the businesses on the mountain for almost a week. So that being said, I feel it is fair to share this PM conversation I had with Wy High Country that finally led to their last report six days ago. I really wanted to ignore all the rumors on this forum about the new management at WHC until I actually had a chance to deal with them personally first hand, but after this conversation (which I thought would be a pretty good hint, and get them to step up their game) and the fact that we have had no updates from them yet again, I don't think I am going to have a first hand experience with them. My mind is pretty well made up that they do not care about the snowmobile community. I miss Corey and Dawnie, regardless of new snow or not, we always got an update from them at least every couple of days. They left big shoes to fill, and the new management is failing miserably. What is with these businesses:mmph:, I really think as many of us that can need to avoid these lodges like the plague for a while until they realize they have to earn the right to have our business. Please see below, this was copy and pasted from my PM's. Somebody in the Bighorns please step up your game, earn our business, make us feel like you are happy we are there. After all, without us there, you aren't there!! :face-icon-small-fro

Best place to find current conditions is on our Facebook page which we update daily. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Wyomi...6975659?ref=hl

Right now, there is a bout 2.5 ft of snow next to our parking lot. A bit chilly, however. at minus 12 right now.

My Reply to their reply:
I spend a fair amount of time on Snowest, mainly because I can get a lot of info from one source. I really am not interested in having to go to Facebook to find snow conditions. I am sorry to say this, but if you are un-willing to support the snowmobiling community, I will think long and hard about spending my hard earned $$$$ to support Wy High Country Lodge this winter. Looking forward to your response regarding this isuue.

Thanks, Nathan Sleeth

Truly is a sad thing to hear, exactly as stated above we are the reason they are where they are, this is the athe time of the year that they should live for, definitely the busiest of the year. On the other hand anyone have any news whatsoever of he snow conditions right now, I am very serious about driving out there this weekend but would hate to see the drive go to waste on garbage snow, I have heard numerous reports that the snow is definitely rideable anyone have any other info

I as well sent an email to Elk View about 3 weeks ago asking them to please start updating their webcams as the current image was from August. At least you got a rude reply, I got no reply at all:face-icon-small-ton

THE ONLY ONE RICK CATERS TO IS TERRY AND "CLICK" FROM ACTION MOTORSPORTS IN GILLETTE WYOMING

The whole burgess side is a "click". I only ride there if I have to. Buffalo side is where it's at. Just call deer haven or meadowlark ski lodge for conditions

I don't expect any lodge to post snow conditions on this site. But they better keep something updated on their own web sites. Or at a minimum answer the phone and give good conditions.

I for one have had great experience with the "East Side Lodges". No, they might not be a 5 star lodge, but you're also not paying for a 5 star lodge. Anybody ever stayed at Togwotee Mountain Lodge, nice place but spendy. Also Rick posts on the Bear Lodge Resorts webpage of the snow reports. I think he has like 6 or 7 categories that he rates from 1 to 10. Most of the time it says guides report.

Rick supports our sport and (us) more than most of you know. This website speaks for itself. https://www.sharetrails.org/node/14951
Having rescue equipment and trained personal is for us! And Rick is the leader of the rescue team.

They have been running Bear Lodge for a long time and have been very successful. (The only reason they are selling Arrowhead is because of Obamacare)

Are things perfect up there, no. But give credit where credit is due.

I think we need more snow. :mmph:

I understand what your saying, but to have more and more snow accumulation and no report is not what people have become accustomed too. Rick will sit in the bar and bull sh¡t with you after a days ride. He's a nice guy. But there is so many simple things that DO NOT COST MONEY that could benefit all his lodges that just gets over looked. Winter time is not the time for lodge owners to get lazy and complacent. It's go time bear lodge. STEP IT UP!!

So three members on this thread have emailed Bear lodge and asked for favors. How many more people have done the same thing not on snowest?

It's hard to please everyone.

I'm just thankful we have somewhere to ride and complain about bad service. Look at northern Idaho. They are complaining about not being able to ride because everything is wilderness.

I have given credit where credit is due many times in the past on this site. I have many times posted compliments on the service and food at Elk View, I have numerous times posted appreciation for the efforts and hospitality put forth by Corey and Dawnie when they were running WHC. But now both those lodges are under new management and I am having $hitty experiences with both of them right out of the gate. I don't complain about lackluster service, but when I receive the $hitty service that I have so far this year, I am gonna let people know. I don't know Rick, but he better get a handle on his management before they run everyone off.
