2013/14 Big Horns N/S Snow Conditions

Great Weekend

WYDOT actually "unofficially" closed 14A on Saturday. We had a nice size group at the Lodge and we were able to jockey all the vehicles to Crystal Creek. Some guests arriving on Sat. took a leap and came through the gates from Burgess with no repercussions. The gates will be completely closed today.

We got 5-6" of fresh powder Sat. night, making our snowstick total 24".

I was able to get a lesson on sledding in the powder this weekend. Counter steering is going to take me a while, I'm afraid!!

Have a group from SD thinking of maybe coming over thanksgiving, want to break in a new sled, A few of the older guys are really wondering if the trails are being groomed or does that start after dec. 15? Some have heard stories about rock's and the like and are really very cautious, myself and my brother in law really don't care, like to ride of trail, but the other guy's pay for gas and lodgeing, so we have to keep the happy. any info would be great.

They won't start grooming for awhile. Even when there is adequate snow, their grooming schedule isn't the best by any means. You can still see the gravel on most the roadways in the bighorns right now. I wouldn't plan in riding the bighorns on thanksgiving unless they get some big storm in the next week. Sorry.

Well up to a whopping 30"s at Baldy! Lol, at least it does this almost every year so we know the snow is coming eventually. Will probably bring some old iron for sunday riding after the Bad Boy's raffle.

Went up on the South side today, very little snow but was able to find a few spots to play in the trees. Was 38 degrees so snow is going away fast. It is scary riding in 6"- 24" of snow but like said above, better than staying home.

Sledding

Went up willow today n found a few spots to play on with a little snow but it can defiantly use some snow!!! Gotta good base if it would just snow! Gotta little clutching to do on the 872 :-(

Sounds like I wont be bringing my sled home for thanksgiving. Would make me depressed after my ride in Colorado yesterday. Maybe Christmas...

Three of us rode granite pass. Found some snow in the trees. Pretty thin in spots but definitely rideable enough. It will make a good base.

I took the family and stayed at Wyoming High Country Lodge over the weekend. The lodge and the people running it are super nice and I would highly recommend both. We found some really good snow and some not so good snow. The good snow was in the 24" to 30" range. I thought that overall it was very good riding for this time of year.

Parked at bear lodge, headed west (H trail) slim Pickens for 7-10 miles. Rode grass and gravel.
Then got better. Nothing deep but there was some fluffy stuff. Not worth a trip for anyone wanting to ride. This was just a test n tune day and wasn't really enough snow to do that. Hopefully this storm coming will add up.

Let's all kick the snow dancing into high gear!!! Maybe we can get the coming storm to actually pan out! :smow:
