2012/13 Snowy Range snow conditions

Who got life-flighted out of Albany Lodge on Sunday? Stopped in there to have lunch Sunday and when we got there the Sheriff was there along with an ambulance ... we sat down to order lunch and the next thing we see is a helicopter landing in the parking lot....

Must have been pretty bad ...?

Per shop mgr's FB post, guy on a rental hit a tree doing 60. Injuries were not all that bad apparently.

I went up Sunday. Beautiful day, but only about 4" of fresh on average. Lots of trucks and trailers, but we stayed in the trees mostly and only saw people from a distance. There was more powder in the trees, particularly just west of the Rollercoaster. (one of my favorite play areas) Unfortunately, some of the drifts were ROCK HARD and some were 2' of fluff... At the end of the day I was pretty beat up from getting tossed around by hard stuff. Blazed over a couple of rocks that were hidden by the fresh but no damage to the sled. Rode higher up the side of the mountain than I've ever been before thanks to the completely setup snow and got a nice view of Laramie and the plains to the East.

This being my first ride of the year, I was fairly disappointed with the snow level. I think you could actually use the Lake Marie bathroom if you shoveled a bit of snow from in front of the door... that building should be BURIED. :(
Not sure if I'll be back, given warm temps in the forecast for the next 10 days... I hope next year is better because it really can't get much worse. (Did we say that last year? And it seems to have happened...) I take it back!

Yeah that storm came out of no where. I didn't measure, but I'd guess 7" in Laramie. I bet the range is in good shape! Have fun all those that can ride mid week!

Snowed hard all day up top couldn't see very good it was snowing so hard! Was going to head to Pinedale but we will be back up tomorrow Dan maybe we will run into you!

Quite possible Matt, Kody doesn't have a race this weekend, so he's coming up and we're planning on doing some SST's.

Anybody got a snow report old corral on facebook is saying a foot of fresh a mile up from centennial, and 2 feet on north and west side? albany lodge facebook page says 8-10 there and 15 to 30 at ryan park? Are these real numbers? didn't know a storm was coming through. I rode sunday and there was some fresh snow but not 2 ft. thanks for the help

At 5am the ski hill reported 14" of fresh. The range looked clouded over much of the day too. I bet its awesome up there.

And yeah, I don't think anyone really knew this was coming, but that's spring at altitude!

8"s at the base of Marie, 'bout the same at Silver Lake, maybe a smidge more. Went out the bottom of the waterfall to the west of Quealy 'bout bumper deep thru there up to the east of Campbell Lake. Good snow folks, boat loads of fun!

Thinking about heading to the Snowies on Thursday, we rode there a few years ago and were lucky enough to have near perfect weather. I see the forecast calls for 35-45 mph winds through the weekend, is it worth riding if we stay in the trees or will it be too blustery to see? Used to a whiteout with 25 mph here in the flatlands. TIA.

I wouldn't worry too much about the wind, mainly it's the temps being in the 40's to 50's thru Saturday. It's going to set up pretty quick.

Heres some footage from saturday riding with goinboardin. Snow was pretty good to the north.

Im working on a video from yesterday as well. Snow was even better, was still snowing on the west side when we left yesterday.

Hmmm...I'm curious...Kody was supposed to have the new Viper with him on his return trip...???...did you get a chance to test it out? We were testing the new MPI kits with him 2 years back and had a hoot. Him and the youngster can straight tear the mountain up. Watched junior pull a line 5 chutes south of the Widowmaker a few years back! Very impressive!!! Would have made some of the best chute slayers out there triple think it!

Didn't see a Viper, and yep, those guys are good.

Anyone been to the Madres lately?? Looks like chance of snow Sunday Wednesday Thursday. Thinking about going out later next week, think its worth a long drive??
