2012/13 Snowy Range snow conditions

How were conditions?
So you can ride in shorts?
Pretty much. Rode up to the cabin this afternoon. Still 45 degrees and melting at 9500 feet. Not good. Need some cold air ASAP!!!
Like ridding in mash potatoes.
We got there at 9AM, 'course the snow was frozen rock hard all the way over the divide. We went up and over the ridge to the north of the hwy and found decent riding in the protected areas, still lots of hero snow though. Dropped back over to the south of the hwy and you can go anywhere you want.
I have to qualify that this was just my second time in the Madres, and was not very adventuresome. The big drains to the north looked like fun, but I wasn't sure if I dropped in that I could get the gals back out.
Bottom line, we need snow!

Leaving for Albany Lodge Wednesday gonna be riding Thursday, Friday, Saturday. It looks like on the 7 day forcast linked to the Albany Lodge page that there is chances of snow Wednesday, Thursday, Friday so far. Anybody got an idea if any these are supposed to amount to much? Whats snow like there now? Headed out Wednesday from Iowa with Zeke and a group from Storm Lake Honda Arctic Cat and hoping for good conditions.

im leaving on same day you are! staying in centennial wednesday through saturday.
I damn near did, we stayed at the Wolf on Friday night. I figured the snow wasn't going to be worth a darn, didn't want to waste ya on a suckie day.
I have a feeling the snow conditions arent going to improve this year.... Maybe a few more good days .

I've done that a few times. He bounces back rather quickly. You just gotta buy him a few double pendlton on the rocks'

I don't believe there can be a suckie day riding, any day I get to squeeze the throttle is a good one

4 of us from LeMars are headed that way leaving wednesday also. long way to drive hope the snow is decent but remember the worst day of sledding is better than the best day of work!

That is true I guess but for that long of a drive its nice to get at least a day of nice fresh POW! Where are you staying at.... Centennial or Albany? We are headed out Wednesday at well with a group from Storm Lake Honda Arctic Cat staying in Albany. Ive been there a few times and know the area okay but always looking for people to ride with who know the area better to possibly get us to some untracked areas?
It won't matter if it is tracked or not, unless they get fresh snow it is all set up, too warm last week! Some decent chances next week so hopefully it comes through!
Snow in the forecast every day this week, but the snotel is not moving yet.
Will be riding on Sat/Sunday out of greenrock parking and will have my "Sno-Dar" on looking for the good stuff. That's where my head is swiveling around sweeping the area for deeper snow.
