2012/13 Snowy Range snow conditions

does anybody have gps coordinates for widowmaker? or what is the closest lake my gps has lakes? I have a group of very new riders coming out snowmobiling a try. They WANT to see widowmaker and I was trying to figure out that easiest way to get them there?

Thanks for the help

This should get you there.

41° 22.787'N
106° 18.035'W

Otherwise try North Gap Lake

Rode out of Chains End today. When we left the lot at 9:00 am, it was snowing lightly but moderate at times on the west side. Visibility was poor but was a pretty good ride today. There was probably 10" - 12" of new powder by the time we got back to the trailer at 5:00 PM. Sorry, no pics. Thinking about riding the Madres tomorrow. Hopefully good powder there.

New to the snowies need help on where to go. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. Thanks, nick

Depends on what kind of riding you want to do. An open ended question like that will get you a couple hundred different answers.

If you are new to the area stay off the top of the mountain if visibility is bad. Stick to trees and areas down low so you don't get lost or turned around. If visibility is good head up top. The snow is typically deeper on the west and north side of the peaks. Pay attention to the avalanche areas on the map and if you don't have gear stay clear of those slopes.

go pro

If anyone finds a go pro up at the greenrock parking lot it'd be awesome if you'd return it. We're staying at the old corral for the weekend. Thanks!

Snow??

Any snow reports? Really disappointing in Cheyenne. Got close to nothing. Hoping that's not the case up top

french creek

Snow was hard on friday so we just did some adventuring.

We were down in french creek Friday a seen this impressive track, anyone know who did this. Picture don't do it justice, This person had no room for mistakes crossing over little patch of snow to cross creek and soon as he got across to the other side he had to hit a wall of snow before he started climbing other side, wow :)

still worth going

I was out today, and yes it wasn't deep, but there were pockets of good snow. Just have to go west, then get away from the trail! If you're in the area, tomorrow should be a good day, clear skies with some fresh. not "epic" or whatever over used word people like to describe their daily activities, but better than the couch for sure. The open areas are not the places to go though, they got wind swept pretty good.

Rode Saturday and a good bit of snow coming down but only had about a foot over hardpack. Still a good ride. BTW, there was a wicked track that went straight off the rocks at widowmaker. Didnt see more than the track but had to be serious carnage, hope rider was ok.

Who got life-flighted out of Albany Lodge on Sunday? Stopped in there to have lunch Sunday and when we got there the Sheriff was there along with an ambulance ... we sat down to order lunch and the next thing we see is a helicopter landing in the parking lot....

Must have been pretty bad ...?
