2012/13 Snowy Range snow conditions

We've been up the last few days, on the backside our tracks have been covered each time we go. Snow keeps getting better, we're still short of where we should be, but much better than last year.
As Newmy put it, it was cold today but snowing hard on the west side. Upside of that is very few are venturing very far off the beaten path.

Good to see that old man winter is finally showing up on our mountains.
Dan when are we hooking up to go for a ride?

Pretty much anytime DC. I'm on a purdy tight schedule, have to be back in Iowa by April.
PM me sometime, maybe we can meet at Chains End or the Madres.

Rode Today ( Sunday)

We rode out of Green Rock today, Rode the west side and around to Widow
Maker, back thru the Gap and back to 130 and Green Rock,

Least amount of snow for this time of year that I can remember. There is not
much of any base to say the least. Saw pick nick tables, benches, and so
many rocks that are usually under many feet of snow this time of year.
Unbelievable the size of rocks on the Gap.

We had a good day, for the conditions, Don't Stay Home, Go Ride, but
be careful of stuff just under the cover of snow as it will bite you big time.

We need SNOW, lots of it. RickM

Not much riding today for us. We are hoping this "storm" puts some snow down tonight for us to thrash tomorrow.

We did manage to burn some beetle kill today since the wind was not blowing.

Not much snow out of these clouds so far. 0.5" might be a generous measurement. 9 degrees right now and no wind.

what do you guys think is it worth making a trip the end of this week? I have a terable itch I need to scratch but want to make the long drive worth it.

Any info would be great. Thinking of riding sat and sun of this week.

Thanks,
Hodz Modz

We found some decent snow in some meadows today. You have to get off the beaten path and look right now. There was about two feet of powder in the spots we hit today, but there were tracks in some of the areas. Still worth it IMO, just get off the main routes and find the snow.

went yesterday and there must have been A LOT of sleds these last couple of days as most meadows are so tracked over that you cannot find soft snow. Decent base finally but we need about 2 foot of fresh stuff to really make nice riding conditions. Hopefully we get more snow soon as right now the snowies are played out IMO.

I am not feeling well today, so I don't have the time/energy to edit the video we took - but here is a short clip of the stuff we rode in on New Years Day. We had a nasty bug go around the cabin as a special New Years gift to all of us - so we did not get in as much riding as we would have liked to during the 4 days we were up there.

Yes there were tracks in some of these areas (as I mentioned above), but still plenty of fresh snow to tear up and we had a good NYD ride. (Stock Nytro and Doo 800 w/can in the video)

Are those weeds I see in the video? Maybe time for someone to do a snow dance. We're heading out in a week but those weeds and the forecast don't look promising.

Weeds? No - those are the tops of 3' - 4' tall willows where the moose hang out when the snow melts. There aren't any weeds that I know of in the meadows that we ride. We stayed out of the center of that drainage because there are still a few "blow outs" with water in the bottom that have not filled in yet. As I mentioned in the post above - there were 2 feet of powder in the "good areas" (west and north sides) of the meadows we rode.

I agree with you that the forecast sucks.....
