2012/13 Snowy Range snow conditions

It was a blast. I am a flatlander too (Omaha area). Saw all the snow reports and had to scratch the itch, so we made a quick trip. :face-icon-small-hap

Yep, pretty much. Was up Monday, still bare spots on the hwy to Belamy, after that you're golden. Looks like it snowed all last night, headed up here in awhile, if it sucks I'll let ya know.:D

Our flurries, that fall from heaven,
Powder fill the trail.
Thy parts did come, my work be done, on clutch, fuel, and suspension.
Give us this blue bird sky,
And help tree huggers forgive those that trespass against them
Lead us not into avalanches,
but deliver us into rolling meadows.
For thane is the highmark, the tree run, the sidehill.
From November to mid June

AMEN!

Love it!!!

Is there a site that I can get a good map of the snowies? We are headed there at the end of January for the 2nd time, staying at Ten Mile. First trip was two years ago and was our first trip out West ever. I kind of know the area (not much) after riding for a whole week but I don't really know the names of stuff. Be nice to look at a map as you guys are talking about certain areas, especially when you say certain areas are dangerous due to avalanch risk or water.

If you stop in Laramie, there should be maps at gas stations. Or wherever you're getting your out of state tags.

storm was to the south of us, upslope from the east doesn't do much for the range unless it's a dozzy like the one we had last year that put 30in on sandlake and 0 on the backside.

any ever figure out the deal with that special use area between the M-K trails I love that area for the mountain horses???

12/20 Update

Rode Snowies yesterday out of Greenrock. Snow was better than when we rode on Sunday 12/16 and the weather was perfect!

Bluebird, no wind and some freshies. With that said, much more snow is needed. We basically rode the road/ around the south to Quealy and beyond. Did a bit of tree bashing and boondocking but it is DANGEROUS! Deep snow, no base yet. What currently exists needs to settle and more snow is then needed.

Had a fun day and one of our group donated a set of a-arms to the gods. :face-icon-small-dis

Maybe payment for some more snow??

BTW....if you ever get the chance to pull the hammer on a 1100T with an EVO "Big Chute" turbo...........do it............you'll giggle! :bounce:
