2011/12 Togwotee snow conditions

Im hoping to head out to tog at the end of February, do you guys think there will be plenty of snow by then?

Oh yeah. Togwotee averages over 500 inches a year. By Feb, it will be fat.

I really can't make the move to Wyoming, but maybe if I wear designer jeans, a straight billed cap, and act like a puke I can be considered "in". Maybe.

Not sure what the hell that is supposed to mean......I have lived here 18 years, don't own a pair of designer jeans, no straight billed cap, and help anyone I see that is stuck or broke down, whether they are riding with me or not. I like to ride with anyone. I have also never been in a bar fight. You need to chill.

Guy earlier in the thread asked to ride with me. Never met him before. Meeting him tomorrow morning with 4 of my other buddies to ride the Greys and then Saturday at Togwotee. But we Wyoming Boys act like Pukes........we would never take someone we just met on a chat board and show them some good local riding.......sheeessshhhh.

Never even heard if the guys in the bar fight were locals or not. People come from all over North America to ride Togwotee. Who knows who they were.

I was out there last week too and heard about the fight on New Years Eve. It is a shame. I hope that the Lodge took action. As for the Wyoming Boyz, I am wondering how to join there club? Hope that you are just having some fun and not serious. I have never been to Tog, would love to go, but have met a lot of Wyo "boyz" and they are some great people, As with anywhere, there are always a few azzhats, no matter where they call home. I would be proud to be a Wyoming boyz from the people that I have met. This forum gets too many comments like this that just antagonizes others - why? Didn't use to be that way. Some of the best people that I know and have met have been thru this forum and, in 60 years, I have met a lot of great people in my life.

I could care less but is it possible that this guy who got worked over ran his mouth and got what he had coming. I do not know but sometimes people just get drunk think their tough and get their *** kicked. Maybe just maybe they person who got beat up played at least a small role?

This is usually what happens and the guy that got the better of the fight is always the bad guy:face-icon-small-dis... There's always two sides to the story I am sure alcohol had a lot to do with it.

Sorry Cat, a little misunderstanding here. The guys involved in some of the B.S. going on at Tog last week all had the same things going..the jeans, caps, and sled wraps. It was almost comical how similar each of these clowns looked. I just had to give them a little grief because of the way they acted up there last week. Not that there actions didn't speak for themselves.
As for you and most of the residents of WY, you are all great!

Thanks. It's cool. :)

Was going to ride Togwotee tomorrow, but it was just too damn good where I rode today, so I am heading back there tomorrow.

Will get to Togwotee next week sometime though and I will see if anyone I know road up there today or is riding there this weekend.

catweasel.............where did you ride today where it was to damn good would love to hear if any of your friends rode at togowtee.....my buddys and i are headed out that way from iowa in two weeks and are curious about the conditions............ never been to togowtee before maybe i can let you know when we are headed there and you can give us some advice where to ride

Spoke to a buddy up there yesterday. Said it was ok, not good, not bad, just ok. More junk showing up as the snow settles, rocks, stumps, etc... Go to the east or south too far and the snow gets pretty lean. Alot of tracks, getting harder to find untracked powder.

The way the weather pattern has been this year, seems like 2-4 weeks of sun, then a huge storm lasting 2-3 days, going all the way back to November.

If you hit it after a big storm, it will be good. If you hit it at the end of a dry spell, it will be marginal. Predictions are this pattern will not last. Eventually, the spicket will get turned back on and stay on. La Nina year, which usually means big snow, just might have to wait a while to get it.

If you are planning a trip out here and can wait, wait a little bit. If your trip is set in stone and you have to come, hey, beats sitting at home. :)

Rode the east side of the pass today with Boostfreak. I had a blast, got stuck 5 or 6 times had to roll the sled out of stuff about that many times. We rode about 25 miles in about 4 hours.

The snow is not very good though. 3 to 4 feet of bottomless sugar or concrete. Some of my spots were fun but challenging because of the sugar snow and the open areas and all the spots that everyone else rides were beat to hell and hard as concrete.

If you get up into the more technical terrain on the north facing slopes in the trees, there is untouched snow all over but we earned it today.

Sounds like the snow I rode yesterday. Be on top cruising along and then you would drop into nothing but bottomless suger snow. Made for some trickey, but fun, riding, especailly in the trees.

North facing stuff is decent enough, south facing pretty lean.

Not gonna make that one.

Guys, I have been getting alot of PM's about Togwotee riding. Plain and simple, it sucks right now. Here is the NOAA forecast for Togwotee. This is not for Jackson, it is pretty much at 9700ft in the middle of Togwotee.

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?site=riw&zmx=1&zmy=1&map.x=61&map.y=94

Keep this link in your favorites. Until it says were are going to get BIG snow, it will continue to suck. 3-5 inches is not going to do it at this point.

I will ride with anyone, whether it be might local crew or some of you out of towners, but I am parked until we get more snow.

On a positive note, Togwotee gets big snow, probably more than any other riding area in the Rockies. It will get it and the current weather pattern is foecast to change in the next few weeks with increasing snow. :)
