2011/12 Togwotee snow conditions

Just got back from a week of riding at Togwotee. Stayed at Lava Mountain Lodge and had to trailer up to the pass to unload. There is still a lot of snow
in most areas. The trails are still in good shape, and were actually mostly groomed on Thursday. Mostly hero snow that softens up in the afternoon, but we did find some great snow in steep and deep canyons and in the thick trees where most people don't go, between 9k and 10k. Both Lava and Tog are shutting down this week, so bring your own gas and food for the day. We did trigger a couple of slides on east slopes, so be careful! Have fun.

"12" of new" we were told while driving yonder Friday evening.
Found about 4" on Sat afternoon.
This pic from Sunday.
Still worth not being home for a few days.

It's all hero snow - but it's those small patches that are soft that will really git'chew in trouble when you find them unexpectedly!

Looking back down from up there:

Of course getting stuck in the mud at 9500' never sets too well....

It's always best to make sure you're the only one with the camera. :face-icon-small-win

BTW - My chumm didn't grab my helmet that was hanging on the headache rack of the truck before we left.

So there is likely a older solid black "Doo" (Razer?) helmet laying along the road between Tog Lodge and Duboise. If y'all happen to see it - I wouldn't mind having it back. :crutch:
