2011/12 Togwotee snow conditions

getting out there friday night, any Areas to stay away from? {AVY} been many years since i have been to Togwotee

Might come out and ride the 4-6, never been there before. Anyone interested in showing us around a little bit if we make it out there?

We had a huge storm, but it was not a good one. I was in the backcountry riding for 3 days.

It rained below 7500 ft and we had winds in excess of 110 mph over 10,500ft. The snow below 7800 is absolutly horrible. Some of the worse I have seen in 18 years of living here.

Areas did get over 30 inches in the three days, but the wind really moved it around alot. Some places are deep as hell, some are scoured and hard pack.

If you know where to go, riding is good, actually really good. The trick is to stay above 7800 ft (not really a problem at Togwotee) and find deeper canyons and gullies where the snow filled in. In the wrong places, the riding is as horrible as it gets.

The avalanche danger was off the scale, but may have mellowed a little. We actually had one come down in between my group on the trail. I must have seen over 100 slides in the three days. Stay off the steep stuff, period!

The above mentioned storm hit on Wed. We are getting another one right now. Calling for 6-10, but it is nuking outside right now. Gusts over 50 mph. It is colder though and snowing all the way down to the valley floor.

Thinking of staying at TML toward the end of march ......We will be 8 guys is it best to try and get 2 Cabins....Anyone have the direct phone line for TML ????

Each cabin has 2 queen beds and a fold out sofa. If u guys don't mind doubling up, u should be fine. Had to stay in a cabin last night cause the roads were closed and the lodge was booked up. 270 per night seemed a bit pricey to me but if u guys split it up it shouldn't be too bad

I have only seen the road between the Airport and Jackson closed maybe 4 times in 18 years.

Somebody posted the direct number on here somewhere for the lodge so I dont have to deal with Aramark.....

Is it about 60 miles from TML to Jackson hole??

Can't read reply no way I am paying for forum access, guys at the lodge are kick ***, so was service. Will be back for sure sometime next year.

We just got back from Togwotee today and the riding was great. I went to all of my normal areas and the snow was great. It is a little wind blown and set-up in the higher elevations and above the trees. There was not alot of people out there so we found lots of fresh powder and you did not have to go far to find it.

Heading out for the hill climbs and then 4 days of riding after that .....Gonna watch hill climbs Friday and Saturday rhen Head to TML Sunday morning we have one of the 4 man Cabins should be a good week

Can someone tell me if there is any meadow riding/open areas on trail B or F?

Thanks
Charlie
Yes there are plenty of open meadows right next to the trail. It's a good ride the overlook on "F" is pretty cool on a clear day you can see the Tetons about 40 miles away.

How is the snow holding up, I saw it was 45 at the lodge today? Still good riding out there? Coming out for the Pink Ribbon ride this weekend

I am wondering this too. Coming out for a week, starting March 24. Will there be enough snow? How are conditions now?
Thanks.
