2011/12 Togwotee snow conditions

We're leaving Iowa on the 4th and looking to head out around the Jackson/Togwotee Pass area which we've never been before. Suggestion as to where we could stay/rent sleds?

We usually ride the Snowys but I assume there's trails and similair riding around as well?

Any info would be appreciated!

You can rent them directly from togwotee lodge. I am not sure what rooms cost there. We stayed in jackson at the motel 6 for 45 bucks a night. That is dang near free in jackson in the winter. There are numerous places and around jackson that rent sleds.

Can you rent a sled in Jackson and ride it out from in town or do you have to haul them out? I was looking into renting from Jackson Hole Guided Tours... Here's where they're located:

Could a person rent and ride to the trials from there?

You can not ride from town. They will haul them up for you. They drop across from the hatchet lodge. I would bet they will rent trailer also. I would just rent from tog and be done with it. Lot less hassel IMO...

I would recommend renting from Tog and staying there. They have hotel rooms and cabins. That way you can ride in and ride out. You can call the lodge at 1-307-543-2847.

Crooked Creek, Dubois, WY is just off Hwy 26 & up Union Pass Road before you get to Togwatee. The snow over there is great, too and they are on the same CD trail system. Contact them at 888-238-2647 and/or check out their web-site at www.crookedcreekguestranch.com. Their webcam shows the snow at the lodge...and it only gets better up the trail. Cabins, full restaurant/bar, 24 hour fuel, rental shop & convenience store make it a great place to base out of. Cheaper, too.

sno tel

Just got on sno tel for wyoming and it is down ,says that it could be down until the 20th of jan . Please let us know snow conditions

How far is this from TML?

Togwotee got a bunch. Riding is good, some wind blown areas, but my favorite powder areas were pretty daqmn good. Avalanche is high tough. Be careful.

We probably have the best snow in the lower 48 right now.

Hitting the Greys tomorrow.

We're 50 miles south/south east on the CD trail system from TML. By road, we're about 30 miles or so on Hwy 26. Six miles west of Dubois, you turn onto Union Pass Road and follow it up the mountain for 6 miles....go past the closed Sawmill and turn right just after the entrance to the Line Shack. Follow the road back along the meadow for about 1/2 mile to Fir Road and Crooked Creek is straight ahead. Hope to see you there!

That's a pretty bold statement there... Show us some pictures of just how good it is!

Togwotee snow conditions

We just got home today! To be totally honest they need much more snow. I could not believe how many rocks are where we usually ride. We had waist deep snow in some areas but no base. We saw many rocks and stumps that were hit by other sleds. Be very careful riding especially if you want to play hard.

Exactly. Depending on how hard you want to play will depend on what you think about the snow at Tog. To me, there is plenty of snow, but I am not that advanced. I did see one guy there who completely shattered all his plastic and damaged his suspension on his front end from hitting a log while playing hard. He told me he wished he would have waited for more snow/base before riding too aggressively. We got home last night and spent the 31 and 1st up their.

We are about 30 miles south of TML right outside of Dubois. It's about 50 miles by trail definitely some good riding.

29th 30th and 31st

rode thursday friday and saturday, we got fresh snow every night. it was way better then i expected it to be. there are some rock and logs that you can see but if you are smart you won't wreck anything. we had 20 people in are group and no one wrecked anything besides a blown up motor. no base but definitely worth going there to ride. best place and the cheapest place to stay is stagecoach motor inn. in du bois. along with the best place to eat the cowboy cafe, staying down in town there is about a 45 min drive in the morning but it is well worth it.

Didn't have my camera, but heading back out Wednesday I think. Didn't hit the Greys today, so will probably head down there.

The upper parts were a little windblown. There is some exposed stuff. In my "secret" powder stashes, it was good. Been riding there for 18 years, so I have a good idea of where to find snow.

The JHMR has posted 120 inches on the year, the most of about any ski resort in the Rockies. It is still early season conditions but not too bad. Seen worse, much worse.

Jackson has some amazing local backcounty areas so I don't get to Togwotee as much as I use to. Epic riding on the Greys, Wolf Creek, Indian Creek, Cliff Creek and the Man Bowl area just to name a few. Some you definetly need a local to take you into.

I will post when I am up there though. :)

Looks like snow moving in again Thursday and Friday. :)
