2011/12 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

Went up yesterday and rode around granite pass down behind antelope butte. It was 50 degrees up there and dang near needed to ride in a t-shirt. Snow was crap it was setup and hard even in the trees. Still got stuck though, about a foot of crust and then bottomless sugar below that. Still had a good time anyway

Sounds like it's time to switch tracks on the Assault. Spring riding is a blast out there!

why cant it just continously snow at night and give us blue bird days for riding?

If a guy likes to pound out the drifts, theres plenty of them up there. Can flat sky a sled off of them now with the snow setup the way it is, but the landing may be a little rough, that was my highlights on friday since couldnt find any powder. I had to test out how 2012 xp was at trying to fly. Held up good for now anyway

As much as i would love to report good riding, i can't lie. Was up today and it was worse than i expected. Spring snow already :face-icon-small-fro. Could go anywhere and we rode 70 miles and didnt find any powder. Sure the drift jumping was fun like said above but the snow everywhere is pretty set up and today didnt help any, was in the 50's most of the day. I probably wont be going riding until it snows again, just not worth it in my opinion. Chances of snow returning to the forecast for next friday, but until then it is suppose to be warm! Need some new snow to cover up the tracks.

Yes, nytro4 there is still riding in the south horns was there last weekend and it was decent. After the warm week we had it is set up just like what i rode today from what i was told.

i was there this weekend too. the only place you could find REAL powder was in the thick trees where the ground is shaded all the time. other than that, your suspension gets a real workout. there was a guy with a 136 x 1.5 track 600 rmk and he went damn near everywhere i did with my 153. the snow is set up so hard you can get traction alllll over.

that being said.....i would have had more fun with a short track sled tearin up the trails and jumping off the trails to play every now and then. unless they get some more good snow, i wont waste the fuel to drive 450 miles. if we had snow here, i would have had just as much fun bangin the ditches and climbing steep hills....

if you are riding on an overcast day, BE DAMN CAREFUL. there are hard, HARD drifts out there. if you cannot see the changes in terrain due to lack of lighting, your riding experience will flat out suck unless you are tearing up the trails.

Yeah I have to concur with Shelb, I hate that I was riding in a t-shirt most of the day today. Rode 62 miles in the search for some good snow, found only brief patches and those spots were few and far between. It was a great day for jumping but not much else.

Looks like baldy just picked up a inch.... hopefully it isn't as windy as they are saying and it dumps more then the 8 inches they are predicting this week.

I feel like I kind of missed winter somehow.... where is the cold and snow? :face-icon-small-sad

hope they get dumped on heading out Friday.oh well if not still gonna be better then here in ND no snow an 0 miles on sled all winter!

We rode Friday through Sunday. Snow was not very good, couldn't trust it. Crusted on top and sugar under, really wind blown. Snow was heavy and slushy in afternoon rides. Found some powder in trees but few and far between. Not the best riding, but still better than up here in ND.
