2011/12 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

Saturday, May 12th Ride.

Well, we rode on saturday to finish the season.
Unloaded near the gate, 11 miles west of Bear.
Road north and south of the road, and had a good time.
It's getting patchy, but there is still plenty of areas with deep snow on the NE facing slopes....

Glad you found some snow. whats with the doo upside down?

We did find plenty of snow. To bad that jackshaft bearing went on your sled, we were hoping to watch that turboed apex in action!

The snow really started to soften up late morning, and was pretty good in the afternoon.

The upside down doo was the result of a hill rejecting the rider! Not sure why, I had just made the climb with no trouble and when I turned around to see why he didn't come out the top, this is what I found. The sled hit the trees on its first roll and layed there while it's rider tumbled down the hill. This pic may help you picture it better:face-icon-small-hap

If that poor guy went tumbleing down the hill without a shirt on that had to hurt LOL
:crutch:

It hurt!

He said it hurt!

That was before the snow had gotten soft and he had ice rash!

He only hit the hill 3 times on his way to the bottom though:face-icon-small-hap

He finally saw(felt) the merits of a shirt and put it back on...

New Snow Coming!

Okay, right now the bald mtn snotel is showing 42'' still.

According to this forecast, they are predicting close to 14" between now and sunday night for the area between bald and little bald mtn.

WHO'S RIDING MEMORIAL DAY IN THE HORNS????

X2 on sick of the heat! Nice to see someone sporting Buffalo as their hometown, most people dont know where it is when i tell them. Was up on the mountain today and was thinking how much more fun i would be having if i was doing some pow turns. From the way the year is going i think its going to be an early fall and hopefully a long winter :face-icon-small-hap Starting to look at stuff for my sled already!

Is it ever going to cool off? Every time i check the weather it just says hot! On a good note it snowed in canada last night so it coming. Sure been smokey around here lately, cant even see the mountain from Sheridan today.

Its starting to get cold on the mtn tho. Trees are turning colors. Im as ready for sledn as anybody. BUT i do need the month of sept for hunting. Id hate to have to choose between hunting and sledn. Might not be able to and have to combine them. Not too sure how that would fair

Hopfully it will cool off before we come out the frist week of october for mule deer hunting. Last year was like hunting in july 93 degrees the one day.

The temperatures are cooling down, now we just need some moisture to roll in. THe fire danger is going to be bad until snow flies

A picture Backcountry Navigators put on their facebook last week. September 16th is when it snowed, but it quickly melted. Chances of rain is back in the forecast for like the next 5 days so hopefully we get something out of it.
