2011/12 Big Horns North/South snow conditions

To see current and future conditions for our area, go to our website (wyhighcountry.com) and click on snowmobiling. There is a weather link there and you can also access any hazardous weather. The link has info for our area only.
No offense intended but a report from Sheridan Media will not give you much realistic info on what is happening on our end of The Horns. mbj050

Are you guys on the north or south end of the Horns, Thanks

Was just up this weekend. There is just enough snow to ride but like some of the guys are saying. You need to be careful....There are alot of rock and stumps just under the surface. The snow is real tracked up to. I had fun getting break in miles on and the snow was the best down by Granit pass. We were just east of that area on the north facing slopes in the trees is the best snow we found.

Nice pics rydpwdr! Hows the pro? Well looks like this weekend should be some ok riding.

"How's the pro"...I thinks it's unreal, polaris hit it out of the park with this model, only complaint I have is the track. After 5 years of riding with a CE 2.5 this track is pretty lame...but I'll live with it.

We are up at bear lodge right now, had a nice day of breaking the new sled in. The snow was better then I thought it would be, lot of rocks still but enough powder to still be fun.

What are the Snotel sites to check for Big Horns snow conditions ...?

Headin' home in a couple days, snowies aren't looking too promising ... Last time I rode the horns was 1986, might have to make a trip up there this year :o

Headed up to Bear Lodge tomarrow!!! Steph; thanks those pictures look great, that makes me even more excited to go!!! Will post pics when I get Home!!

Bald mtn, bone springs, burgess junction, shell creek for the north, and powder river pass for the south end.

They all lie though...

just wondering about a few things, me and a couple friends are heading to the big horns the day after Christmas so our first ride will be the 27th. We are staying in Sheridan and I was curious on how to get to Bear lodge from there. Or how to get to the nearest parking lot that has access to the trail. Also how much snow did this last storm dump.
Thanks, 606

Take I-25 north, exit at the dayton-ranchester exit. Follow that highway through both towns and that will take you up to all the riding area. Either park at bear lodge or granite pass (thats my recommendation, a good majority of the people park at these two spots.) As far as the storm i dont know, the snotels either went up an inch or stayed the same. They will prolly go up tomorrow, hopefully someone has been up and will fill the rest of us in!

Planning on leaving the 31st of Dec. Was going to come to Bear for 2 days and then head to Togwotee, but Togwotee is not looking so hot. How is the riding up there? Where is the snow? If we were to stay for 5-7 days will it be worth it?
