thanks for the information refering to the line shack area, how are the conditions riding out from that area as of today?

Togwotee Conditions

I was up there over New Years and rode Dec 29, Dec 30, Dec 31 and there is some decent snow around Brooks Lake Lodge, try upper & lower jade lakes (Northwest of the lodge) and Jules Bowls (North East of the Lake) It looks like they have had 8-12 of freshies since then! Watch out for rocks, no real bottem yet.

Let's start a Union Pass sticky

For all those inquiring about riding around Line Shack, Crooked Creek, Sawmill - the conditions can be very different from Togwotee Pass area. They are approx. 40 miles apart by road, 50+ miles by trail and can have low snow conditions trying to get from 1 to another.

lineshack, sawmill

Our group did a ride over New Years from the Upper Green parking lot to Togwotee Lodge. We were all suppose to ride over the mountain however, my family and another decided not to snowmobile over due to the lack of snow, we drove instead. My husband called the Sawmill before we left and was told they sure didn't recommend snowmobiling over there. Now I did not snowmobile over the mountain so I have no personal knowledge, I can only tell you what I was told. The trail was not marked nor groomed because there isn't enough snow. Somewhere along the way, they rode on 8 mi of dirt. They stated the ride was horrible and about half of them spent a day borrowing a truck to drive back and get their trailers as they wouldn't ride back on the sleds. However a few did make the ride back over mountain but took a different route (I think they said the E and K trails, down around Fish Creek?) and they did have much better luck finding snow.
Don't know if any of this helps...

How about that ride in? I guess that's why they call it Togwotee, snow was great. We were out there for the past week, and the snow was over the hood everyday!

Same old question tog or snowies

Leaving jan 15 for for some ridin out west originally supposed to go to tog, been on the fence multiple times tog or snowies. You guys that have been out there point me in the best direction. Thanks

I am togwotee right now, the snow is deep. We had great riding yesterday and today. Not as much snow for the time of year as previous years, and we have seen alot of broken a-arms and such. So you definitly need to be careful yet. But all day today when we were off the sled it was waist deep everywhere.

Im leaving the 15th as well should arive the 16th i hope! About 20 of us from indiana so looking for a great time. I ride a 07 800r summit x and some of my buddies ride m8 and one turbo m8 which we are getting when we get there. Look us up.

Just got back and can't say enough positive things about the whole trip. The snow is great, not as deep as previous years, but with a guide, no problem finding untracked and deep!!! And it looks like it just dumped some more, so it's got to be fantastic. Brent - our guide was able to put us all on great untouched meadows and climbs, that we would never have found with out a guide. Just go already, it's great!

The food is awsome as well.

Whats the price on the guides for a day? We have all of our own stuff/sleds.. Stayin at crooked creek probably be ridin up to tog most of the time, or going to centennial- any input which is better. Thanks all

Over the Hood powder !!!!!!

Just got back last friday for Togwotee lodge, had a blast nothing but over the hood powder best snow I have ever seen !!!!!!! We rode Jan. 3rd sunday with out our guide and found deep powder about 4 miles from the lodge. Our guide did not start until tuesday but if you know the area you dont have to look far to find powder. We had Carter for mon., tues. and wednesday. he will show you some of the best places to ride and he knows his sh!t !!!!! I would not hesitate to go to the Togwotee lodge!! The ten of us had a great time!!! This was my third year there but most of my group has been going there for 15 years.:D

Thanks speedfreak great info, did you hear how the trail is coming crooked creek, we are staying there so either park our sleds at tog or drive up on the trail everyday. Sounds like both snowies and tog are pretty much same as far as snow amounts?

I've been to Tog twice this season Dec. 3-7 and Dec. 24-27 both trips were great thanks to the Tog super guides!!! Yeah there were some areas with less than normal snow conditions but we passed by them and hit the over the hood stuff. The guides know where the snow is period. It's their job and I wish it was mine! The next trip is early Feb. I cant wait! (Duncan I only hope they run out of nachos by then hint hint)

Yea cant wait to be out there my self 3 more days. I think we are going to get a guid as well. Sounds like its the way to go. Man what a life that has to be a great job. But im sure like anything else it gets old...lol

Seeding Clouds

Living here in Casper, we heard they seeded the clouds last year to help with the snow conditions. Is that true?
If so, it appears that they haven't done any seeding this year. Maybe they have'nt had the clods to do so.

Just curious.

FWIW: I was supposed to leave tomorrow morning for the Togwotee area(staying at Union Pass) but canceled due to a few of the locals I have contact with reports.... :( The word was the trails were beautiful but the off trail riding was poor-to-fair at best.

I plan to try it again the 1st week of March, hopefully the season is turned around by then(fingers crossed).

first you need a storm to seed the clouds. its the storm we are missing;) highly unlikely that there is any cloud seeding in wyoming due to the low population and few resorts. colorado yes, utah maybe
