i give you propsohh big deal...we blow motors....
id rather blow engines than goats!
ha ha ha
every manufacturer has problems from time to time. i guess if you want the best, you deal with the rest.
my mountain cat never left me stranded or broke down, but it liked plugs.....
my mtn viper broke the driveshaft (m7 skid, tightened the track too tight, my fault) and engine never hickuped even with the N2O ran through it for 2 years.
my 07 summit motor burnt down, mabye because of the oil i was running...who knows, but BRP is taking care of me, so i have no complaints
i think the 800r will prove to be an extremely reliable engine once the replacement gets here with the new case....i guess ill see
my .02
After reading some of the posts on this thread I started to second guess things. Here is my experience so far.
04-Summit Adrenaline 144- 791 miles (bought it new, sold it to get an X)
05-Summit X 144- 4304 miles (bought it new, still have it- got chrome rings at 1250 mi.)
03.5 Summit 144- 4130 miles (Bought it from a friend with 3500 miles as a backup sled. sold it with 4130)
07-Summit x 144- 846 miles (sold it- never got the clutching right)
06-Summit X 151- 2944 miles (bought it with 1780 miles sold it with 2944)
08-Summit XP 154- 465 miles (bought it on March 15th)
Thats something like 13500 miles without an engine failure. I don't know if I should be too proud that I have sled in my garage that runs strong with 3000 miles on a top end....I should order some pistons and rings asap.
Hopefully you didn't do the piston skirt crunch like my 02 HM X 800 did... at 1200 miles, cracked skirt, dropped a piece into the crankcase and broke the side out of it. Yuk. Basically trashed the motor except for one cylinder and the electronics... I would recommend replacing pistons at 1000 miles in a Doo, esp. with their 1-ring design and the extra clearance they run the pistons slap around a bit and fatigue. I switched to Wisecos in my newer engine, just make sure to warm them up adequately, no problems in the two years since.Haha I just blew mine yesterday. 02 800 highmark X RER. Still not sure why but it is locked up tighter than a cows A$$ at fly time. haha probably my fault, crankshop twins and a new throttle cable. I probably didn't adjust my oiler right or something.
