Who all have had their 800 blow?

My 2008 xp went down with a broken crank. The guys at cycle Saw in Jackson hole did a great job getting me back up and running though.

'02 Summit, fried one cylinder on second ride running too much compression (RKT 14.5:1). Backed down to 13.5:1 and alls been well since. 130 hours on sled now (miles??)
Replaced pistons with SPI's at 60 hours, preventative maint.

I've pulled belt strings out of the crank seals of a few of blown 800's.
My 03 800 hasnt blown yet but it will if i dont do a seal on it. It started blowin a little grease about 300 miles ago.
The 01 800 RMK cooked a crank bearing right as i started it for a guy to test drive.

2004 Rev 800 1200miles complete melt down no reason determined NO WARRANTY
2008 XP 800 X 1100miles piston, jug and dome appears locator pin never there of course dealer denies NO WARRANTY
Since changing from Polaris to Doo for Rev platform love the ride but have had it with engine problems, can not believe I might look at a Catm8

This isn't a 800 but a 670 and an 800

Two of my buddies Doos went down at IP this last week.
Why does a ring break?
One of these guys went to town for parts and came back with a new M=8. The other will get a M-8 as soon as he can. Thru with Doo!!!!!!!!!

2001 zx 800: 4000km and still running strong
2004 rev 800: 5000km and still running strong
2005 rev 800: 6000km ski doo put on a new top end for fee cause the exhaust bolts backed out
2003 mxz rev 800: 4000km Cracked the bottom end, bearing siezed, top end gone
2007 rev 800: 300km blown top end - ski doo putting in new motor
2007 rev 800: "same as the other 2007"

I put them in order of when i bought them. So i used to love ski doo now i am not so stoked on them.

07 Rev crank locked up first ride this year at 2700km 3 weeks after warranty. Dealer paying for new motor but not labour. 08 XP, 1700km, just noticed grease spewing out of pto bearing, tic-toc, still on warranty :D hope it goes on the way home of last ride of season.

'07 800XRS blew main bearing on crank after 380 miles. Apparently they were know for tight bearings that year! Repaired under warranty and back in action...hopefully no more problems!

...i don't like this thread.. Making me nervous i'm @ 550 w/a 800r 07 - on my original belt with my figures crossed. For all you that blew what are your riding, and maintenance habits? Dealership maintained ? Self maintained ? Were you blowing belts prior? Did you have vents? Do you stop after hard pulls or keep going? What Oil Do you run? What type of terrain do you ride ect ect..

just wanted to say the piston rings suck bad... i just rip them out and put new ones in right away... NO MORE CROMEOLLY COATING!!!

What rings are you running?

800s seem to be the ones with issues...especially cranks. I have heard mostly good things about the 700 and smaller.

02 800 crank bearing 3600 miles put a hole through crank case. Motor stock with a light weight can on. Went with new HO short block we will see what happens crossing the fingures I have thrown a lot a money at this sled. I have missed about a month of riding every year since I bought this sled 3 years ago. One of the funnest sleds to ride when working. Might jump ship this year and buy Cat or Yamaha.

07 800r, 2487 miles seized up going down the trail at about 6400 rpm, blew a belt about 5 miles earlier. im hoping my extended warranty is still good but im thinking it ended in nov

04 Rev had piston ring issue, then popped a hole in a piston on the exhaust side about 200 miles after ring change.

06 600 SDI (wifes sled) Not one problem (knocking on wood)

07 XRS never had motor failure, but dealer changed out my motor in Oct of 08 because of crank bearing. New system seems pretty solid (knock on wood)

HEY MARCUSO!!!!!

Do you have anything to add here???

I can add a PTO side of a 827 RKT going down after 5 miles :(

First day of a 4 day trip... I live 3500 miles from the mountains too!

My 2005 Ski-doo 800 blew the crank at 1800 miles. I was told that the problem with the sik-doo 800s is the bearings on the crank are packed with grease insted of lubricating with oil. after about 1500 - 2000 miles the grease turns to crap and so does you motor.

Doo you know why?

From what I understand , it's to limmit oil going out the exhaust, for better emission standards.
