Which sled should I purchase the 2013 Pro or 2013 Ski doo

If reliability is high on your list go with the doo. Overall Poo is not even close to the reliability of a doo. Many people will deny this but ask around and you will find out yourself...

Unless you count sleds catching on fire, rings breaking and the new skids busting! I agree that Polaris has had it's fair share of motor problems but let's not make it look like the Doo's are bullet proof!

No sleds are bulletproof, but it's pretty easy to see which sleds are prone to more issues...

The Polaris Pro is the king of technical mountain riding, Skidoo needs a new mountain chassis period. Until skidoo comes out with a decent chassis, I wouldn't even consider one unless you REALLY like the dealer and you are ok with second best.

The Pro is a complete copy of what skidoo did back in uh 04`, looks alot like the Rev also. That started all Rider forward technology to every manufacturer to this day, took Polaris till what 2012 to finaly figure this out?? Yes the IQ is a good sled but those didn`t seem to have near the engine and drive system problems like the Pro does now. crankshaft failure has to be the biggest Pro topic for the last couple years. watch this and any other multibrand forum and keep watchin how so many are or have Jumped Ship to the XM. and are very happy with it straight out of the box.

Better chassis, What year is it? and when was the latest chassis just released, First Rider Forward Design 03` Rev Chassis, 08` Xp chassis and last year. Skidoo XM 2013. Less than every 5yrs they put a radicaly more improved Sled on the Mountains or trails. Can`t wait for there next one.

First off I will start by saying that I am not brand loyal, however I do try to go with the best sled for the type of riding that I do and when someone asks me my opinion, I am as honest as I can be.
I will give you the fact that the Ski Doo Rev was a good chassis, I had one (2005 800X) and after working out bugs for most of the winter it actually ran pretty good and the chassis was a step in the right direction. When Doo came out with the XP, I gave it a year and bought a 2009 800X...Huge mistake. I am not going to go into great detail, but the sled was a total POS & it ate a belt on every ride I went on, yes, every ride (very expensive). The belt issue was not even the biggest problem, the chassis just plain sucked, it felt like it had lead weight between the skis and when you get one stuck, you needed 3 men and a donkey to get the fat heavy pig unstuck...as a matter of fact, pretty much everything about the XP chassis just felt wrong. I am not sure who's head was up who's butt when Ski Doo thought the XP was an "improvement" over the rev because they were dead wrong, the XP was a design setback. I personally think Ski Doo's biggest problem is that they keep trying to design a Mountain sled that is good on the bumps and corners on trails....Who really cares..Make a sled that performs in the steep and deep, forget everything else and start there and always keep that your main focus.

Last year I rode a 2013 Polaris Pro 800 155 & I went riding with some people who had some of the new Ski Doos. Before the ride we were in the parking lot and I was told how great these new Doos were and how they were such a huge improvement over the "Old XP" like I had. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and we took off riding for the day. The snow was about 2'-6"-3' of new powder on a pretty deep base around late january in the Colorado mountains....basically a perfect riding day and a great test for the new Doos. The Ski Doo riders struggled with anything technical and when they got stuck it was like old times, they were hard as hell to pull out...After pulling one of the riders out of another stick, I said just for fun, lets switch sleds for a little bit and you tell me what you think and vice versa, so we did. I am going to be totally honest here, I couldn't get the Doo back to its owner fast enough. The difference between the Pro and Doo is night and day, the Pro dominated the Doo's all day long in everything we rode in, the more technical the worse it was for the Doos. The Ski Doo riders told me that they could not believe how much better the Pro was and that they "bought the wrong sled".

I could go on, but honestly just take a seat on both sleds inside the show room, look how fat/wide the doo looks and how streamlined the Pro is. The Pro is like a fine sports car and the doo is best compared to a Manatee. Then go ride both of them and if you can ride the sled like it was meant to be, you will see what I am talking about. Polaris has had a few set backs just like the other brands but I am telling you that Polaris has had a winner in this chassis since 2011 & no other brand currently comes close and that is the truth. For Ski Doos sake, I hope they figure out what makes the Polaris chassis such an A$$ kicker and design a decent chassis for 2015...Geeze, they have been putting bandaid's on the XP for far to long now. Come on guys, "T Motion", what a joke, that is a cheesy azz fix to a much larger problem.....Polaris Pro's will once again rule the mountain this year.

I`m not brand loyal either but to each there own, this is the same as telling a letting ford, chevy or dodge guys loose on one another on who`s sled is best.
We all know that is a never ending battle.

Yes I agree on the xp points you made, not alot really overall happy with chassis except the big weight loss in 08` that of course got heavier for strength purposes.

Oh and by the way guys thanks for All the Thumbs Up and Thanks I received on my last post, LOL

I have a Tmo in my Rev and I am absolutely convinced it works sure especially in harder heavy type snow which seems to be the most overall conditions to where we ride, we get a good amount of powder but now fluffy that I have only been in a handfull of times and I don`t beleive the Tmo will give any advantage in the Fluffy Powder conditions but in a bit harder, thicker or setup snow, IT Works or I would of Honestly taken it out by now and put a Holz rear skid in, I narrowed the front since and sled is Hugely improved, over an already good handling sled. Look at my signature and that is all that this site allows for space there so no more room for the other added long list of mods I have done to this sled, It handled really good before I started the mods, mostly cause I mod just about everything I have ever owned, Streetrods, Cars, Sleds etc.. And I don`t have even close to 10k or more for a new sled in it.

Not trying to knock anyones personal sled, My 02 and personal experience.

Man you guys are funny....Don't worry, Ski Doo sales are so far off that they will be forced into making a sled that will compete with the Pro soon enough, but the 2014 line up isn't going to cut the mustard. Again, if Ski Doo can put out a decent chassis (Similar to the Pro), they might have something, but it's still going to take 2-3 years to work the bugs out of anything new.
Here is the news flash, you don't need to mod the Pro chassis, that is the pure beauty of it and until you doo guys spend a week on one you really cannot argue with me. Most of the chassis mods people do to the Pro actually make it worse. I have been riding snowmobiles for many years now & the Pro is the only sled that I have jumped on that I still wonder how they got everything so right....it's that good. I have never once felt like I could improve the handling of the Pro. The only thing I worry about is that Polaris changes something in the future and they go backwards just like Ski Doo did from the Rev to the XP.

Judging by your (snowmobiler) high post count and your general inability to actually have any real input other than your one sentence hot air, I would venture to say that you do more computer time than seat time....Just a guess.
Until you actually know something and have some real experience, you should go stand in the corner.

Maybe a better question to ask is, what do you not like about your Pro or XM? ;)

I don't have an XM and I could tell you what I don't like about it but I don't have much seat time on it so I won't. My Pro could always use more power (any stock guy on any machine will say the same). I think most Pro guys would say that they are concerned about reliability as you see others having issues. I've been lucky and haven't had any motor problems on either of my Pro's. I don't like the stock shocks, they bottom out to easily for me so I went to X1's at all four spots. I have not had issues with fit and finish, love the seat and choose to go with lower bars than the Pro Tapers. From what I understand, Polaris clutching is much better out of the box. Although I haven't heard of Doo clutches cracking/breaking. If anyone here tells you that they don't have any problems with a stock sled they are too easily satisfied.

First off, everything you said about the XP is true, except the belt thing, my buddy put 2 seasons on ONE belt, it's hard to believe.
As for the XM, I don't think you understand that it isn't just a bandaid on an XP, it is actually a different chassis.
Now for my comparison, if you wanted a sled that handled the absolute best I would say pro, but I must also say that handling is largely effected in the sled when you hit a bump on the trail ride in and your a arm explodes. As for the engine it is underpowered and fails, often. The XM really is a great sled, seemed like the sled to beat in 2013, the engine is strong and it goes everywhere and handles pretty damn good. The doo clutches are really good, aside from the odd few most people's belts last a crazy long time.

Now I you want to have the best sled possible buy yourself a pro and a cat, drop the cat engine into it, and start buying some aftermarket a arms and some other things to fix the common issues with the chassis. A reliable engine with a awesome chassis, that would be the number 1 sled.

Now if ou want to buy the overall best sled that doesn't require you to mod it to be reliable buy the doo. It doesn't have the best chassis EVER made, it doesn't have the BEST engine ever made, but it does all those things really well, and the build quality is second to none.

Just my .02

It's pretty easy to figure out how they did it. Polaris looked at what was working in the steep and deep and improved on it. Yep! Arctic Cat M Series.:face-icon-small-coo

Here Polaris is 3 years later still trying to work the bugs out of it... Un-suck-sesfully! Maybe they should try gluing the motor as a fix!:face-icon-small-con
