*valemount~mcbride Conditions 07-08*

Great snow in the Allan Creek area today. Visibility has been poor for the last few days. Its was trying to clear today and got better near the end. This was the only pic I stopped to snap of a few local boys out for a ride, had to give em a laugh.

Very deep in spots, windslabbed in others 8" to a couple feet depending where you went. Excellent snow, we just need some sun

Save some POW!

Luke, myself and a couple of other are heading up to Valemount on the 18th, gonna ride the 19th(saturday), and taking our Avalanche field class with Zac's on Sunday.
I am looking forward to learning all the things need to know to make my rides safer:face-icon-small-win!

Yup I'm heading up with Mark next weekend. I've been putting my avy training off too long. Its about time I took it:o. Not only that but I'm stoked to try out my new clutching setup! It should rock in the alpine:D

You guys have been riding all this time without training? Glad we never hooked up! Extra caution to everyone riding out there right now.

Wes, I think we both know that you ride quite often with someone I also know that has no training.... so come off of the pulpit and keep the preachin' to someone who wants to listen!!

Right now the avalanche reports are moderate to considerable for the last few days which can be observed for a good part of the B.C. season ..going to high by Sunday. Have you been watching the reports??:face-icon-small-dis

That certain someone rides with us twice a year and he is not the only one I have to rely on to find a burial. I will preach as much as I want cause I lost a buddy because of my stupidity a few years back and I know how easy it can happen. It is always high risk if you ask me and I treat it as so.

Sorry to hear that. I was unaware.

Someone just taking a course not does not make them a good person in emergency situations though. It is a good thing to have, but it all depends on the person. I have been in a situation that someone's life depended on my actions and decisions, and if you can't keep a clear head and calm, the training can go straight out the window. Those qualities I think are equally as important. It is in the person.

Guess we should stay on topic.

Anyone have any pics of this weekends ride???

I guess I had better get signed up for that as well. Ive ridden in the mountains too long with no avy training.

Well, hit all three areas in the last few days, socked in the majority of the time, but overall good snow off the beaten path.

Chappell Fri, 1-2' of snow lots left too be had when we took off, but the weekend fellas might have tracked it up.

Clemina Sat, again poor vis most of the day, excellent snow back in Danger Basin 1-2' again in spots. Could not make the trip into Morning Glory from the top, due to terrible cloud and a very large overhanging cornice. Went up from the bottom and not a track in there. We left it for the folks riding sunday and went for the trees.

Allan Sun, terrible visibility, the farthest anyone seemed to venture was to the top of milton. Good snow in the burn and off the main trail. Mostly untouched near the back, but again no visibility. All common areas are generally hardpack or covered with blown snow. It was blowing hard !

Avy conditions are bad so keep yourself informed. We could not even get small stuff to break, but those bad layers are so deep and if you hit a shallower section near a rock or tree, you could trigger something big. Use caution out there especially on the windloaded slopes. The wind has been hammering for weeks transporting snow all over the place.

Pics are bad, due to weather sorry.

Headin up Westridge tomorrow and if the weathers good, Ill post some pics.

Have fun out there !

McBride just hit with a big drop of snow. Talked to Rod from El-Jay grooming and Renshaw got about 3ft or so in the last 4 days. Lucille and Bell around the same. Heading out this weekend, should be good!!! Keith.

Just the pic you posted above. Didn't think it was you as the pumpkin was on a Doo! What's with the Poo primary on a Doo? Won't see Al for a while, where did you guys ride?

Rode McBride this past weekend had a great ride. Lucielle friday, 1-2ft of fresh in the open areas 2 1/2ft in the trees, light snow and overcast only 7 riders total on the hill that day, had a good warm up day. Saturday went up Renshaw, 1-2 1/2ft in the open areas and up to 4ft in the trees, stayed low and left of the cabin and got into some great untouched. Overcast and light snow but could see fairly well, never ran over the saddle but some riders did, and the next bunch that have blue skys will have an awesome ride there. Sunday did half day under blue skys in another 1- 2 1/2ft of untouched fresh, a nice way to end it! Plus the old mod is starting to work really well! Keith.

Rode Allen on Thursday (17th), about one foot of fresh snow behind Premier, Milton area was pounded down. Rode Chappel Creek on Friday, about 6" of fresh snow, snaw very hard below - due to rain? Rode Renshaw on Saturday - about 18" of snow on the hills, 2-3 feet in the trees.
