Utah Snow Conditions

Ya i don't get why not many people ride it either. It seams like we are the only ones that do, and everyone runs to monte where there is no snow! alot of it is wilderness, and i know that doesn't stop most people, but it will stop some people from exploring it. I've never made it real far back in off of mirror. Made it pretty far into some nasty stuff from the chalk creek though

the wilderness is all to the east of mirror lake up towards king peak and the really tall mountains... as far as i know everything west of the mirror lake highway is fair game... chalk creek is great riding too! ahh if we could only get 10 more feet of snow...

Went to Uintahs Bear River Service yesterday and it pretty much sucked, low snow, lots of landmines and one wrecked sled.

Its interesting to me how little explored the uintahs are.
don't know if it's realistic or not (given my unfamilarity with the terrain here), but in looking at a map, it'd be cool to find a way from the MLH to S&M. I'm dying to get out and explore!!

its very realistic. Just need 100" on snow to fill in the shelves so you can go up and down instead of driving forever to find ways up and down the rock shelfs...

what are you an eco terrorist now? wanting your peace and quiet in the woods? ;) lol so much country up there that you could ride fresh tracks for weeks after a storm... lets hope we pull 2-3 feet out of this next one as well!!!

Tracks suck. 2 yrs ago my bud and me found a bowl somewhere near soapstone. NOT a track in it...Went back a week later not a flake in it. But there are some areas that are still hard to find and somewhat seceret;)...

Me and Hatch hit Gaurdsman today, Im done untill we get more snow we made it back into the 3rd bowl and it got REAL dicey. Be carefull fellers theres no sense tearing up a goat on this crap:eek:

High Uintas

So I do a lot of backcountry stuff like backpacking in the high uintas in the summer, it's pretty much my favorite place, I've always wanted to dirtbike there but most of the good stuff is closed to it. From reading this thread it sounds like the eastern side trails of MLH is open to snowmobiling? That's sweet! I've always just parked at the soapstone area parking and ridden towards Noblett's and such over on the other side of the highway.

I've always wanted to ride deep into the backcountry, build an igloo, and ice-fish from inside it :) I'm thinking of places like Island Lake or Big Elk or Anchor lake...or stuff past notch pass and such. Granddaddy lake and those around it would be fun too, anybody done somethin' like that? Does it take 200+ hp sleds to get into these areas? I ride a 98 700 rmk with a 151" track...not sure if that would be enough oomph to get back up some of those drops into the lakes....

well first off granddaddy lake is in the wilderness so dont go there... Wilderness starts like 5 miles east of the MLH (the highway runs mostly north south through the high peaks) All of the peaks to the west of the high way (notch, baldy, watson, island, and wall) are fair game and i encourge travel on them while they are still open to sleds. get your pictures in now before its too late
Big elk and island i have ridden across many many times on a stock rev. The trick is to ride the rock shelves till you find a place to drop down that you can get back up. Then you can work your way up and down and still journey cross country... In the late spring (march april) you shouldnt have a problem going anywhere you want up there.

Well Like Phatty said these areas West of MLH are fair game on sleds. I have accessed Anchor lake area for many years and its great riding if you have some patience every now and again.

FYI you can access this area from Weber Canyon if needed, through Gardner’s fork trail. BUT, I would not recommend it being that it is a small 4-wheeler trail and is monotonous to take a sled on. Just in case of emergencies this is an escape route if needed. It will take you down to Weber Canyon summer home area.

Found plenty of untouched about 5 miles north of Tower Mtn, best ride this year, still plenty of rocks and down trees to find, be careful, dont be a jackass like myself......i just kept pushin and pushin, smacked a tree that smacks back.....no big deal, replace bumper, S mod nun thingy looks good and the pipe looks good also

Kevco - dont say a word:cool:

I guess its time to slap the skid plate on, been sittin in the garage for a few weeks:o
