Utah Snow Conditions

You fuggers that went today I gotta know how it was dish...If ya stay overnight Im telling all your bishops:eek:

This is some wet and heavy snow!

just got home from Nobletts - broke trail from the Mill Hollow turn-off all the way to Wolf Creek Summit where we met up with tracks from the other side (from Hanna, I think). We were also the first tracks up to Soapstone Pass and into the basin where it hooks up with the road down from MLH. I loved the conditions! ...easily 3 feet of new; snow over the hood all day. might not be the typical Utah powder (don't know what that's like yet) but I felt right at home (like I was back in Washington).

Numbskull - did you go with the "Club Guide" group? I didn't get my sled back together until about 1:00 PM today and was also a little concerned with the conditions (visibility, wind, road conditions). I also had the same feeling Kevco had today, a little spooked.

I did meet up with Club Guide but the road conditions made it tough for him in his RV and we spent some time getting it unstuck. he wanted to ride after we got him out, but there was no place for him to park without fear of getting stuck again so he called it quits. by that time, he was also wet and tired and as you mention, wind and visibility was aweful so that wasn't too appealing either.

shortly after this, we were warned by some FS guy that MLH was going to be closed due to avalanche danger. something about a 25-30' cornice on Baldy that, if it released, would cover the road and be too dangerous. he was also telling us about his snocat getting buried twice by avalanches along some trail last night... I don't know if he was the groomer or what. he was saying that everyone who had passed him was getting stuck in the road (even the 162" tracks). so he thought we were stupid for even attempting it. I think he was feeding us a bunch of crap for some reason - especially since later in the day, we found out from a sno-park cop that trails don't get "closed down".

anyway, after all was said and done, I drove some 75 miles to ride today so I wasn't about to turn around and go home. so I hooked up with the only other couple that showed up and we went to Nobletts (since he was more familiar with getting in that way). right out of the sno-park, his wife (I think) was having trouble with visibility and decided to turn around and wait in the car. so it was me and a guy named Barry who rode some 35+ miles in mostly untracked Washington-style "powder". for me, it was a great opportunity to get to know the area.

Holy ****!!! What a storm this turned out to be. I got a foot at my house in So. Ogden. Cant wait to see what the mountains get:beer;:beer;:D

well it looks like ogden area got the brunt of the storm. I live on the SLC east bench and had 6" as of 5:30 am with heavy snow still falling, but it got worse as i made my way to ogden for work, snow just got deeper and deeper the more north i went... still snowing too!

Chalk Creek was deep today.... Finally a good north slope storm! We had been gettin alot of snow but for some reason the north slope was missing the brunt of it. This one hit them, good...

dumped on

Powder Mtn ski area has over 100 inches now & Mt Ben Lomand has doubled its depth in a week. Now let it settle.

Got about a foot in Logan, and various amounts around the valley.

Took my first ride this season... around the yard(have some work todo before
going out.

Wolf Creek Pass

Snow was awesome today, a good 5 ft on top of the pass, 2ft of light fresh powder, pretty good base. Everyone have fun and stay safe.
