The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE. Sunshine will soften sun crusts on sunlit slopes increasing the chance for wet-loose surface sloughs that could be triggerd by backcountry users, falling cornices or snow dropping from cliff areas. The potential persists for backcountry travelers to trigger slab avalanches up to five feet in depth on very steep slopes and in cliff areas. Larger triggers, such as multiple high marking snowmobiles on the same slope, may be necessary to initiate failure of these dangerous slides. Sunshine and warming temperatures will make these slabs more susceptible to failure.

The avalanche hazard this morning is LOW and mostly stable snow exists. In the afternoon as sunlight and increasing temperatures weaken the snow surface the hazard will increase to MODERATE. During the afternoon, wet surface sluffs, particularly around sunlit cliff areas, will become possible and the chance will also exist for human triggered slab avalanches in very steep avalanche starting zones. Large triggers may be needed to trigger these slabs that involve older layers of snow with depths potentially to four feet.

Snow is the forecast...I am hoping for at least a foot of new powder. The forecast calls for a couple of inches each day until Sunday with 1/2 foot on Sunday night. That is what we need....

Update

We are expecting some snow over the next week. The best part is that the cloud cover has returned to keep our high/low temperatures closer together. Yesterday was gorgeous but way to warm. Today is cooler and is to stay cooler all week.
