Big Dog was everything we came here for!!! We got to see incredible machines, great riders, and spend time with some of the best people in the country!!! Thank you all for the fun we had.
This year we had the hill climb big horsepower shoot out that was a gradual up hill assent to a hard right hand turn, that progressed up a soft side hill then turned left into a powder straight uphill shoot. It was steep enough that stocks bikes were all the way down in 1st. gear. Some bikes even got stuck on the hill or had to turn out. The winner of the naturally aspirated 4stroke class was Austin Sharpe. 2stroke class winner was Conner Thomas. The hawk class winner was Gordon. Gordon also took the final shoot out for overall Big Dog title and a sweet Yeti ski that Yeti gave to the event.
Les Blocker had an idea that we needed to add a hare scramble to the fun, so we marked out a 1.2mi. coarse through four very tight and technical treed sections and across two HIGH speed meadows and then a crossed a high speed side hill that had some large drifts that would loft the bikes and riders 10' in the air and land them 30' down coarse in fluffy uneven tracks that would throw every bike into wash out. We started with dead bikes with the riders standing in front of the ski with hands on the bars. The more savvy riders even had the bike in gear and the clutch pulled with their finger on the easy button so that the bike was started and running when they made it onto the saddle. The hawks and kick start bikes clearly did not have this advantage. The riders in this class were awesome fun to watch and ride with. There were some clear advantages and disadvantages in the different stages. The hawks would get pressure from the bikes in the trees and the bikes would get passed in the meadows. When it was all over and the snow dust settled it was Gordon on a hawk in 1st, Steve on a hawk in 2nd, and Austin on a bike in 3rd.
Only 364 days till we meet up again.
