Stupid Back

i'm sufferin a bad back right now as well... f-d it up playin with the kids a few days back... back surgery is nothing to play with but the doc is telling you the risks so you don't go all "malpractice" on him if it goes wrong... all he's doin is coverin his ***... they gave me the same speach when i had my knee scoped, said stuff like i could get an infection or a blood clot and die from it...

Another doctor visit today. No real answers. Looks like the surgeon is recommending the two bones be fused together. Not sure what the long term effects of that are. I know limited mobility but is there anything else?

So I got this file in the mail today. About an inch thick. Apparently my ex-employer is appealing the decision and now I gotta go to some hearing regarding my claim. Will this sh@t ever end??? I mean it's bad enuf I need surgery but now I gotta go see that azzhat again.

Office of the Worker Advisor. If you ever have a dispute with WSIB give them a call. It's a free service provided by the government, independant of the WSIB, independant of the ministry of labour. All for the worker, to represent them in the event of a dispute. Nice to know somebodys got my back on this.

Sorry to hear ir bud.... It's a sucky pain!! I know there is a cost involved, but I ended up going down to texas and getting my spine surgery done there. two failed surgeries in Calgary and the bullchit waiting and lets see what happens attitude. I went in for my assessment on a monday, and was in surgery 1 week later..... no pain since. I was self pay, but well worth it.

Self Pay? How much $$$ did that set you back? There is no way I could afford it anyway. It's the old: sure I gotta wait, n sure my doc could give a rats @$$, n sure I feel like cattle but hey it's free attitude. I do have an appt for a second opinion. Thats April 14th. Here's the best part the original surgeon only operates on Mondays, he makes up his mind who he is operating on on tuesdays. When you get the call on Tuesday it means you will be gettin hacked open in 6 days. Wait time for the call could be 2 weeks, could be 2 months. You never know till it happens.

by the time it was said & done.... cost me around $40k. I got sick of waiting up here. After my second surgery in calgary, my pain was worse.... I was taking the fantastic blend of perks, oxy & torodol. It was a toss up.... didn't know if i was going to go into a drug induced shut down or jump off a building to get rid of the pain. Originally got the pain in april.... by the time i got a tard to send me to a neurosurgeon, it was october, got my first surgery jan 30th..... not fixed, waited a month, got back in to the neurosurgeon, he was agianst the idea of doing it again.... but it was up to me. got in again for the secong surgery in june.

Second one made it worse..... and the tard refused to try again. Flew down to texas and a week after my evaluation i got the third and final surgery.

I got to the point that I couldn't wait anymore... good thing I didn't. The tard in calgary was trying to fix the wrong thing.... he was trying to fix a herniated disk.... Dr Peloza in texas pulled my spinal cord out, removed a bunch of scar tissue from my spinal canal and then squished everything back together.

In the Baylor med center at 9..... nap time at 10.... woke up and puked at 12.... walked out and drove to a hotel in the rental hummer at 3. Stayed for a couple weeks for physio and never looked back!!

PULLED OUT YOUR SPINAL CORD AND REMOVED SCAR TISSUE!!!! ARE YOU KIDDIN ME!!! That sounds so risky I'm not sure I could ok it. Couse for me I haven't been in pain in months. Did the whole percs thing for 1 day that was all the crazy crap I could put up with. MRI clearly shows the herniation but i'm still getting a second opinion. Just in case. Glad your OK tho sounds like an unbelievably quick recovery.

There was a video of the surgery on the center for spine care website.... havent looked at it in a while. Had the surgery in august..... had a light easy ride in november and then hard at it again at the end of march. Worked out really good.... they want you to wait a year at least, but it felt good. There is also a spine center down around mississaga that this dr in texas recomended..... I'll see if I can find out which one it was. I was gonna go try to get in there on one of my trips home, just never made it down.

Hope it works out for you. I got told by 1 doc I may need surgury. I went to a sports medicine and they popped my back in place. While talking with the guy he asked me about my diet lately. I'd been having back problems off and on. The guy asked me if my problems surface typically when I eat greasy foods like pizza. Ironically it did. He educated me that consumption of dairy products in some people can cause inflamation of the disk or the membrane around the disk causing the disk to swell and put pressure on the nerve causing numbness and back pain. Ever since then I cut back on dairy (especially pizza) and greasy foods and my back has never been better. I had a followup 2 weeks after the first that I cancelled because I felt so good! That was 3 years ago. May not help you at this stage but maybe others you know and the people that read this will remember and it will benefit someone in the futurel.

Greasy food could cause back pain? That is one of the wierdest things I have ever heard. This happened to me while I was at work. Under the dash of a mini-van no less (always hated them things). But dairy causin back pain! Man that doc really knew his stuff.

Smoking is terribly hard on your disks too..... fluid exchange is done through absorbtion as there is no blood supply to your disks..... so all the crap and chemicals that you get from sucking ash stays in the fluid inside the disk longer. Got that speech in texas.

Well I never smoked so I got that goin for me. I asked the Doc why everyone I talked to that had a herniated disc had a good story to go with it. Somehting big fell on him, lifted some gigantic object, some catastrophic event that caused thier pain. All I did was stand up and I have the same problem, I'm not overweight, work out regularly, it's not like I sit at a computer all day. Why did this happen to me? He said sometimes poo-poo happens. Coulda just been the position I was in just before it happened then shock loading the spine when I got up. Basically who knows just some bad luck.

Well the free ride is over. 3 months with no pain all undone Saturday afternoon in the gym doing my physio work. Back in pain now, prolly goin to emerg tonite to get some toradol. I was thinkin bout not hittin the gym too, then figured "just a short workout to keep me in tune". Well here I am all messed up once again.

That sucks. I tweaked mine again starting my sled. Now I am living on Naproxen. I do not have any leg pain, but it sure slows you down when the pain hits you. Good luck again.

Just got the call. This whole situation just snapped into focus. It's no longer some "pie in the sky" concept of some far off day. Gotta go in tomorrow for an assesment then they wanna hack me open on Monday the 3rd. I thought it would be better this way, can't sit and stew about it. Now that it's looming over me I gotta say all the worrying I thought I was avoiding is here all at once. Guess I gottta just hope for the best. Keep on speaking terms with the man upstairs.
