First post here - snow sucks right now might as well read this :face-icon-small-dis

I'm pretty much on board with CO even though he may be coming off a little strong. ha ha. I used to date a state troopers daughter and while that sounds like I'm already hugely bias he was a really nice guy and we got along great, hard to believe I know. But when him and all the other troopers/sheriffs/city "peace officers" came around for a barbeque or something it was ridiculous. So much can't wait to destroy these terrible peoples lives propaganda, **** talkin, dick pullin, straight high school jock mentality it was insane. Lost a lot of respect for sure. Other thing, which was already brought up, was anywhere we went with her dad he would speed like crazy - once on a family vacation he was pulled over doing about ten over and when the cop saw who it was he apologized for pulling him over and away we sped!

That said, I have had a pretty even mix when it comes to dealing on my own with law enforcement, been let off more than not for being honest and truthful with police and when I did get a ticket I was usually asking for it. There is always that one though that just can't wait to harass you and he really gives everyone a bad name.

Well CO powder I sure hope u never need them worthless ignorant cops!!! To stereotype like that is bs the only dumb ignorant one is you my friend. First off id like to say I'm not a cop and have had dumb tickets before and some act like complete pricks but until you have walked in their shoes and done and seen what some have don't be so quick to judge. They are here to serve and protect some do some don't there's always bad eggs. We all need them and people like to talk trash until the day comes when u got some crazy a$@hole trying to break in your house or something then law enforcement is the hero when they come save ur family and your ignorant a$@!!! I Played this game with the war haters and soldiers are just trigger happy murderers blah blah blah. Ya I'm cocky ya I was aggressive and ya some would call me an a$@hole but I had to be to protect myself and my buddies. It's no different for law enforcement they have to be sharp and on edge because that potential threat is there everytime they make a traffic stop or whatever it is. Believe it or not most have the publics safety at the top of their priorities not all but most. There's good and bad on both ends. Not standing up for the individuals I'm standing up for the majority and the principles and laws they are sworn to protect. I for one am glad to have them around because never know when I might need them. Everybody is quick to b$tch till sh$t hits the fan and gets real. With that said we all get dealt a sh@tty hand sometimes but deal with it. Live, learn, and ride on

CO powder is the guy that has straight up attitude the second the officer comes to the window...and then convinces himself the cops are the dicks, and not him or his sh!tty attitude. check yourself man, respect is not a right, but a privilege afforded to those that earn it.

as to the thread topic, this was not an "accident". it was 100% preventable....should he have got a ticket? perhaps not, but I'll bet he remembers the time he was driving too fast for conditions and wrecked his truck and sleds, and to add insult to injury, a coupon to boot.

You guys are hilarious. Way to just make stuff up out of the blue to try and portrait me as the loose cannon.

If what you say is true teeroy, how is it that I do not have ANY points on my drivers license or an arrest record? If I pop off to every cop I come across, there is no way I could maintain a clean record right? So much for that theory....

Yes it was an accident teeeroy, the other choice would be intentional and I seriously doubt the guy intended to wreck his rig. It didn't do ANY good to write the guy a traffic ticket when he is facing $50k in damages to his property, who do you expect buys that notion?

Now their job is soooo hard, soooo dangerous, seriously? If it is so bad, quit, find another job, don't cry and want special treatment. Don't expect the people who pay your salary to take your abuse because you had a bad day. Buck up little camper, this is the real world.

The cops do not live at my house so if somebody breaks in I am pretty much on my own anyway, no? Do I tell the robbers to just hang out a minute till the cops show up or do I just legally shoot the dirtbags in the living room? Truth is, in that scenario, the cops are once again likely to be more of a pain than any real help. In my 4+ decades on this earth I have never needed nor wanted a cop to help me, I do not expect that to change. I find them way too unreliable and inconsistent to be worth involving. I don't need them, you may, I don't.

The last time the clowns showed up to "help" was when a couple pot heads started one of my hotel rooms on fire. Fire Dept did a great job, showed up quick, minimized the damage. Even though this couple had just endangered the lives of 50 other people and were caught red handed with then illegal drugs, the cop didn't do a damn thing. Wouldn't charge them, wouldn't haul them to jail, its 30 miles each way you know, they can't be gone from town that long, even though the sheriffs dept is here too... I have lots of these stories, I doubt you will be able to convince me otherwise based on my experiences over the years.

Like I said...

Well, when you are wrong, you are wrong. Why is that difficult for you?

Do you have the statistics on "speed kills" or were we to just take your word for it? We keep using fear to control people as if we will somehow reach a safety utopia some day. All I am saying is that we have gone way past center on this. We have given cops and politicians way to much control in our lives. The negative repercussions from that are starting to show. If you do not think so, and you like to rely on the cops and the government for your safety and well being, you will likely get what you deserve, and wonder aloud "how did this happen"?

I am not the only person posting in this thread. There are tons of other comments, with support for each side. If you want in, I am happy to discuss with you. If not, do you really think I am going to respond to your silly challenges to stop posting? Ummm, not likely.

If you really want it to die, do what FiveO did and stop responding. As long as there are posts wanting to discuss this, I will probably continue to post my views as well. That is what discussion forums are for, and the snow is seriously marginal right now....

being a dick doesn't necessarily mean you get tickets for it, tho you probably should. I know guys like you, smart enough not to push it far enough to get into any trouble but quick to assert their "rights".

an accident is when a tree falls on your car. or a rock rolls off a cliff and hits you, or you hit it. or a part failure due to poor design or faulty materials. or lightning striking your house. these are things beyond anyone's control....this incident was no accident as the driver was driving too fast for road conditions. as posted earlier, why aren't there a pile of vehicles there? everyone else made it around that corner without drifting across two lanes and piling it up in the ditch sunny side down.

Yes, VERY quick to assert my rights. I have seen people allow the police to abuse them, I have seen the police take full advantage of it too.

If they clearly intend to bully, they probably can expect to have to listen to me run my mouth. I let them make the rules. If the rule is disrespect, so be it.

So your contention is that the driver MUST have screwed up and that he deserves a traffic fine to "teach him a lesson"? Looks pretty rural around there, probably not enough traffic to make a pile in the ditch that week. OP states accidents are fairly common in that place. Explain to me how a sub $200 ticket has ANY impact on the guy with $50k+ in damages? How do you reconcile that? Because there is a law, we must place blame and punish. Sounds like a GREAT direction for society to proceed on.... Seriously?

please point out where I stated the driver deserved a ticket. your reading comprehension must be deficient.

he was the sole cause of the incident, you can blame it on the trailer, the road, or whatever else that attempts to deflect responsibility from the one that is to blame. would he deserve a ticket if he smashed head on into some family that was driving for conditions when he crossed the center line?

Sure seems like that is what you implied with your definition of accident vs incident. Thank you for the semantics lesson at any rate.

I do believe the driver at fault, when there is other damage or injury, should be ticketed. I think most of us agree that adding a traffic ticket when all you have damaged is your own property, is inappropriate. What makes you think the ticket helps get the point across? I see it as nothing more than a money grab.

In the case of other property damage or injury, I feel the ticket is necessary to help determine who is ultimately at fault, causing the other party damages by no fault of their own. This is important for license points and insurance rates ie; my rates shouldn't go up if you hit me. Many states now use no fault laws that alter how fault is determined, still the written ticket plays a role. If it is against you it allows for you to have a day in court to plead your case.

Completely different situations...

?

Nobody is bullying you here but we still have to listen to you run your mouth.:face-icon-small-hap
I'd bet you hate school teachers also

Enjoying the converation and IME, agree with ya CO. Cops around here r always flexing their muscles. Cant stand it.

My 14 yo brother got a curfew ticket cause a cop seen him wandering the neighbors lawn after 10 pm. This is at our fricken neighbors house! The guy leapt outta the car and frisked my bro an his buddy for no reason. Had em facedown in the dirt an everything. These r peckin kids holy crap chill out. An we live in the proverbial "Small town USA." My dads a lawyer, if he wasnt currently sidelined with a brain tumor, that cop would be shoveling sh!t for the rest of his life! But nope, my moms terrified, doesnt know what to do, at wits end, and meanwhile Johnny Law is just gonna keep cruising the beat, flexing his muscles, all in the name of protect and serve.

Those who dont understand real history, r bound to repeat it.

Skidoo, no offense but nobody's forcing u to partake. U can logoff at anytime.

Blah blah blah Here we go again. Someone doesn't like what another says so we hear if you don't like it leave. I sure am glad I am not a sheeple. I have probably had more run ins with the law than most of you here. Starting when I was 12. Not once have I ever blamed any law officer for any consequences to my own actions. I usually got what I deserved, and I knew it. Also never had anyone saying he is not to blame. And I know it made me a better MAN because of it. I still feel that way today. I guess that is the difference from someone who is 56 and someone who is in their 20,s 30,s or even some 40 year olds. Most younger generations want to blame everyone else for their problems.

I think giving him a ticket in that situation is a dick move by the cop , not about anything but an opportunity to collect revenue, nothing more. To me that's another reason why so many people lose respect for law enforcement officers, quite often their actions resemble more tax officers than peace officers. Someone said respect has to be earned, well that goes both ways.

I agree on the d!ck move. But i dont think it has anything to with collecting taxes. Its just a way for the tax collector to assert his authority "over" the people. Power trippers really, an the most convenient tool they got is the power to issue citations.

Why do u guys defend the d!ckwad cops? We all know that of portion of them is what sets the PR image for all enforcement. Why dont we work together and get rid of the bad apples? Of which there seem to be in growing numbers?!

If u like protecting the bad apples so much, then go over to the granola forums and explain to them that loud pipes save lives and then also turn around and defend the bonehead who runs a louda$$ silencer on his sled an pisses off the granola crunches?! I dont see u stickin up for that PLP who causes more problems than solutions as we continue to see land closed to sledding. Why stick up for this tax collector?

Sd, just cause i still call em mom n dad has no bearing on their age or mine. Im married, have my own kids, run my own business, pay taxes etc etc. U think cause ur older than me, then you are wiser. Well if we follow that logic, than anyone older than you.... get the point? Theres plenty of old people (my folks included) who r sick an tired of the friggen tax collector thinking that they gotta assert their status over the commonfolk every chance they get.

Back in the day ( early 80's), there was a overbearing deputy getting to be a pain in peoples beehind. A couple guys from town said heck with it an roughed em up pretty good one weekend. The guy got transferred somewhere else or disappeared or something. no charges, nobody cared, the guy was an arrogant jerk. Only problem is that if NOW we deal with it the old fashioned way, there be a buncha ppl like u around making all kinds of exclamations about "the cop just doing his job" and calling for my head. An then ya'll would start a callin the TV an radio shows an on an on. And the rotten apples will continue to hide behind the badge. Only now its harder to get rid of em.

Live and hopefully learn.

Thank God it was there and not a huge drop off!

Can't help but look at those tires and shake my head. Maybe they're alright, but big mud tires ain't what you want for snow.

first thing I thought of was how many big lifted trucks we see in alberta/bc with hard compound mud tires. just useless...
glad everyone ok though...

More fuel!!!!
Today: 3 lanes of traffic. Speed limit 60.
Traffic in front of me. Traffic immediately to my right, traffic behind me. Traffic in the left lane about 4 car lengths up. All vehicles going the same speed. In fact the car next to me was annoying me because I could feel it there occasionally too close.
I had no idea of the speed because it didn't matter-all lanes going the same speed. Up ahead, stater on a motor cycle radaring(sp).
All vehicles slowing but not braking, I look down and I see less than 60 so I signal and get in left lane to go around the heavy slower (I mean impeder).
What do you know.....here comes the lights for me. I got the ticket for 73 in a 60. Keep in mind the flow was dictated by all the cars up ahead. It's hard not to have some bad attitude. If the officer was in the truck with me, the story would be the same. I say I was plucked out to slow the flow.
