Muskoka buys 858...

Is there any updates on Matt's sled?

I finally watched the video this morning. The rattle/tinging was clearly the spring hitting the steering post, which still is baffling to me, but should be easy to fix. At one point when idling you could hear the brake rotor issue also. But I would love to know what caused the power valve to stick, strange! Again, with the new power valve design, I don't think it's possible to hit the piston like they mentioned. More like a faulty out of spec power valve. Please respond if you've heard anything.

After watching, I'm even more excited about this sled. I know everyone has there own way and to each his own, but damn that was some pretty brutal conditions to break a new sled in. I know, I know - break them in like you ride them....LOL!!!
He rode it yesterday and it seemed to be trouble-free based on his Instagram stories

I'm pretty Social Media Challenged.. I just went to the main page with the photos; didn't even think to look at "stories." :)

I had an opportunity to put a leg over one that was out of break in. It came incorrectly set up suspension wise and we did some adjusting. After a few adjustments and a few hours riding, It seemed much better. It's an 850 that feels like a Polaris Pro, kinda. I get that it's a first year sled, the dealers know very little about it and are learing with the rest of us. Every new sled needs adjustment and time in the saddle helps. The issues, bugs, recalls wouldn't really bother me.
Perhaps in the CAT's element it is a much better sled. I'm thinking it's element is very technical tree lines and powder less than 2'. It does get good traction and feels super planted. We got a lot of snow this week, so this should be an excellent test. My buddy's sled is not suffering from all the complaints I've seen here. Make no mistake, it's not a 9R.

Im not sure what rider Cat’s initial suspension is geared towards from the factory but Im guessing its aimed at the same gorilla that GM uses to put on oil filters. My ascender and catalyst came set up crazy stiff outa the box.

I'm headed out to ride now with my friend. I'll post back after round 2 today. It's been reported that we have about 4 feet of fresh up high.

Well now all of a sudden there are several good riders posting videos of their 858’s. Most are way way better than I’ll ever be but not like these other pros. That’s why they are pros I guess. The good news is they aren’t breaking down, they are doing burn out wheelie fking arounds, side hilling steep stuff, climbing and going into places that would kill me . So iam thinking there’s hope. I think the average dudes gonna like them cause I honestly think they are just easier to ride. Take what you can get in this world. Lol. Don’t forget to be safe out there. Sw Montana has dangerous conditions on the way.

I'll have to go look for those videos... nice that we're seeing new vids with positive results.

I was supposed to go out today but the one person I have to ride with bailed on me again. Gotta find more people to ride with.

Now look…these guys are normal guys having fun , loving life so they deserve a break. Their videos are on you tube so it’s public and they know the internet talks smack. I’d say they deserve to not get roasted or made fun of just cause maybe your better or blah blah. Just seeing 858 stuff is all

I was going to do videos like that with a riding buddy, but that riding buddy has pretty much bailed on the sport. It's too much work for him to bother going out; much simpler he says to just go skiing. Too far to drive, worry about chain controls, etc, etc, etc. We were supposed to ride today (his idea even) and he bailed on me yesterday (not the first time). I missed what would have been an amazing powder ride last season because he bailed on that too.

Now I'm trying to find new people to ride with, but it's hard. There's a local snowmobile club that is AWFUL (long story). I"m taking another friend out next weekend for his first ride on a snowmobile... we dune ride together, so I'm hoping to addict him and create a new riding buddy.

Well, we rode for 7 hours today and the fresh snow was 42 to 48". After spending time with my buddy and on his Catalyst, I'd have to say it did very well. We did just a little more suspension tuning because it was so deep. But that 154 Catalyst stayed on top of the snow as well as my 9R 155 Khaos. He got stuck twice, but it was super deep and fun, and we were over riding it.
One note, he lost 2 springs off of his headpipe. I heard it when we were rolling it over once. I thought the sled ran great. We didn't get into super technical terrain because we were avoiding avalanche. I'd say the sled has more potential than I originally gave it credit for! The motor is so much better than the Ctech 800. I think the sled is a great sled to ride neutral on and feels light.
When CAT gets the bugs worked out it should be a good sled.

Please define "head pipe" -- do you mean the Y-pipe or what? I had heard about people safety-wiring those springs so if they break they don't end up in the clutches. I may want to do that to mine.

only found some "offbrand" springs and some on bikeman. are there any other springs that are better or are those ones fine?

Those springs can raise havoc with a belt drive too, apparently.

Yes, Pipe to Y pipe lower springs x 2. And yes, they broke!
