M 858 Issues/Fixes

The springs on my y-pipe didn't have any inserts in them. I am debating between safety-wiring them and just putting some high temp RTV on them. RTV is vastly quicker and easier. Need to see if I can find my safety wire and tool...

I’m not sure what code it was, but my dealer said they had one sled out of all there snow checks that had some code they could not get to go away even after swapping parts with another sled, said cat was gonna make them replace the wiring harness

Turns out I was mistaken; my y-pipe springs DO have inserts. One was about 1/4 of the way out. I RTV'd them. I also bent the bracket on the exhaust valve actuator. It moves much more smoothly now. IMO that thing is a really poor design. At the very least the bracket needed to be bent a bit, but really, the cable itself should have been designed to move a little in the bracket to accomodate for the circular nature of the motor, OR it should have used a linear motor.

When I bent my bracket I went to where the cable was a little bit past center the opposite way at full up and down for that reason. Give it some room to go side ways as the arm swings. My cable was rubbing pretty hard when I picked my sled up.

So after 2 rides on my sled (about 4 hours) I popped the hood off my sled.......not only was the problem spring that hits the steering post completely broken off....the spring on the underside of the y-pipe was broken off too....... 2 springs in 4 hours? wtf. I've never broken springs in 15 years of riding...

btw now i get to search in the belly pan for the broken spring so it doesn't get into the OPEN drive belt.....which is the reason my buddy detonated his 9r last year
Use an endoscope- I find them pretty easy in the most weirded areas- Beats fishing blind with a magnet...I even found a 8mm socket the other day in a brand new 858- someone at the dealership is short one for sure

My dealer, Yellowstone Motorsports, posted a video on instagram. Showed the spring missing the silicon center and vibrating like crazy at 6k. Then they turned the spring 180, like pictured below and it hardly vibrated, no silicon center or RTV.
