858 Bog?

Mine had a bog around the 65 to 75 mile mark. It really seemed like a backshift bog, or lack of backshift. Was most noticeable when diving off of the packed trail into deep powder. When the sled would start to slow and I smashed the throttle it would bog. Blip the throttle a couple times and it would come to life and stand up. I took the secondary apart and polished all of the bearing surfaces. I can't claim it helped because the next ride was different snow conditions and I couldn't replicate. Then later when the snow conditions were similar, I had no bog, but was also over 100 miles. The further I got from the 80 mile mark the better it has run. Last ride was deep snow and no bog all day. So I am not sure how much of it is the sled coming out of its break in too much oil too much fuel, or if cleaning up the secondary was key. I just know that it RIPS now. Also, I have not had the update re-flash performed yet.

Had a couple bogs to start the day. Unplugged #2 and she ran like a rapped ape the rest of the day. Not another bog. I was suspicious the TSS was getting triggered. Leaving it unplugged. It’s been unplugged on my Ascender for a number of years.

Ya know that's interesting , when doing my go thru on the new 858 my #2 plug was unplugged ? Called dealer to see if they had preemptively done so , mechanic was out sick so don't know guess I will be leaving it that way , only found one issue on possible wireing rub thru (shoulda took a pic) up in the nose below the pipe is a piece of aluminum (heat shield) wireing is loomed and attached to that plate and the edge was already making a mark on the loom !( Zero miles ) Double loomed it and moved away from the plate . Other than the stupid huck rivet side panel **** show everything looks pretty clean . Evo bumpers and second set of scratchers installed , Jaws race can still on the bench till she is broke in (someday), G8 set up and updated , 70 PSI ski shocks #2 clicker, 45psi FTS #2, 145 RTS #2 see what happens , gonna work on MTN vipers snow flap mod this weekend , flippin kills me to mount a Doo removable flap on the new CAT , not gonna hear the end to that for a while 😎😎

Loose throttle cable is often a culprit. These seem even more sensitive to that issue.
This new primary also likes to upshift fast with stock weights. If you mash the throttle, track speed isn't matching so the motor is outside the power band.

LOL, I felt the same way when I put Polaris gripper skis on my last couple of Cats. But they were so much better than the Cat skis at the time, I figured hey if it works may as well roll with it!

Sly dog powder hounds work great on mine. The bog is almost gone after 3 rides or should I say one learns to ride around it by feathering the throttle. Clutching is way of ! Shallower helix and a lighter primary spring should fix that. Towing out a Doo yesterday the engine almost lost it trying to adjust to a steady load at slowish speed. It does not shift up to put a load on the engine. I have gotten used to bliping the throttle when trailing in and out to avoid that now it is time to fix it properly.

What fit kit did you use for skis? I have a set that came off a polaris. When I look up catalyst on slydogs site they said unavailable. Mine aren't the powder hounds. They are the attack I believe.
The clutching does suck from the factory. Mine is substantially better now.

Road mine in revy this past weekend and it bogged a fair amount. Lots of issues that sure make the sled feel cheap. The break rotor is floating, so it rattles so bad at idle. The gauge got moisture in it and was ice over. The pull cord just destroys the front section. Its starts horrible, 2-3 pulls every time. The bottom end is sluggish at best... How is this sled worth 23K?? Can here it bog in Bryces new video. Check it out and follow for more testing and comparing content.

My 600 catalyst brake rotor rattles terribly had my dealer lube it up a little bit and it seemed to go away…

Other than that so far, very happy with the 600 catalyst other than the fact that I added scratchers to the front skis because it runs so hot and a half snow flap seems to help…

I believe it is the same fit kit as the C&A skis the Powderhounds are 8 inches and do not dive in the snow like the stockers.

On the narrow settings they are as wide in the stance as stockers and carve just as good . Stoping in deep snow they ride higher and get going easier. A great side effect is that I have not taken out any front ends since I run the 8“ skis, less dive and a very flexible tip help to protect the frond end.

Just had the dealer re-flash done on my 858 Mountain Cat 154 2.6", but haven't had a chance to test it out yet after. I have 276 miles and 15.5 hours. The last rides were unpredictable to say the least. Sometimes it was a rocket, sometimes it would bog, sometimes it gave me a low octane code (using premium 91 from different stations). For those of you that have had the re-flash done and have some seat time what do you think? Night and day difference, not much, or about the same? I'm hoping it all smooths out and gets to be more consistent. Dealer couldn't replicate the low octane, so just thought possible bad gas somewhere.

My sled had the update before I rode it so can’t compare. My sled also ran fine when I first got it but seemed at maybe 60 miles or so the exhaust valves started randomly binding. Saw a slight wear mark on the actuator rod. It didn’t throw a code. Did a bit of bending and has been fine since. Maybe check that? Powder bog is real though. Going to try some frogskin vents.

I checked the valves right away, so I was good there.

As I said on Josh’s post people might want to have the dealer look at the power valve cable at the servo motor. If the power valves are sticking you will get a bog.
