M1000 Hiccups on the Bottom

My 07 M1000 is doing the exact opposite. Right off the trailer runs like a champ until it gets warm. Once it warms up, three to four miles from the truck I can't get full throttle or it just cuts out the whole time I hold it wide open. If I stop and let it cool off for a few minutes it screams again until it warms up again. About the guages!! My speedometer jumps from 0-30 sitting on the trailer and ten milles from the truck the odometer will read as many as 40-45 miles. Dealership is confused!!! When it runs I love it but it doesn't happen very often.

sounds like grounding issues to me. when thinks heat up it expands causing a pinch-point.

Time for this thread to be re visited.

Spent 4 days at wolf creek last week riding between 8 to 13k elevation and I'm still having the problem. I'm getting tired of almost being thrown over the handle bars. Who thinks Class Action law suits in order?
If Cat cant figure this out then they should take all of our 12k machines back. If they don't want to do that maybe we should all get a huge law suit going. What do you think?

I'm in on the lawsuit thing...waiting to hear back from my lawyer right now in fact. Cat won't call me back and my dealer is supposedly too busy to fix it now(can't figure out my problem) I got a ecu from cat that fixed my bog but have since had an injector stick causing one cylinder to be super lean and the other super rich. Also, with this new ecu my altimeter doesn't work and have been told that its gonna be june before I can get a ecu that my functions work with...how convenient...push problems off till summer then next year I'll be out of warranty. I don't know about anybody else but I didn't pay almost 12000 to have a pos!!Anybody else on the bandwagon, pm me and I'll show all this to my lawyer.

My M1000 with the boondocker box on does not bog. The settings at low to mid range are very, very lean. I did not send module to get reprogramed.

I've had the same issue, but seem to have fixed it. During a five day ride to Valemount I was damn near put over the bars a number of times by a bad bog, and once my sled quit completely. I called my Cat dealer and he told me check the smart valves/ fuel pick ups in the tank. They have small foam doughnuts in them. You can only get at the middle and back valves easily, and when I pulled mine I found that in the back valve the foam had sucked into the fuel line and it was stuck closed. I disassembled the valves tossed the foam over my shoulder and haven't looked back since. I run the full SLP set up and BD box on '089 m1000. Runs like a top.

08 m10 snopro

Can you give me more info on the proceedure to check/remove these "smart valves"? This intrigues me cause a couple of times when my sled wouldn't start it wasn't getting fuel...then all of a sudden without fixing anything it would get fuel and fire. Thanks for the input!!:beer;

Hey guys - interesting topic here. I'm looking to pickup an 08 m1000 here in the next few weeks so all the more interesting to me.

I'll tell ya what i know - and what i've seen work. My bud rides an 07 1000 with the 08 mapping upgrade. His sled ran perfect until the 08 map. On top the maps seem the same, but just like what you guys have said it dies every now and then and also won't start sometimes. Reminded me of exactly how my sled ran once when i was screwing with my bd numbers at idle! I leaned it way out just to see if it was working and then i couldn't start my sled. So, i told him to try fattening his numbers up a litte at idle and it has ran perfect ever since.

just an fyi. probably done for emission at idle. just a thought.

There are two tabs on the smart valve bases, very obvious. Squeeze gently with pliers, and the filter base will come off. Be careful as there is a small spring on the same shaft that the foam doughnut is on. Remove the foam disc, toss over shoulder, and place spring back on shaft. Reassemble the valve carefully and drop back in the tank. As I said before my sled has run fine since, and my dealer assures me that they've done this many times before and it isn't a problem.

Last night I checked inside my gas tank and found three hockey puck style, fuel pick-ups. I was able to pull two out for review and only found a thin piece of plastic mesh on the underside. As large as these fuel pick ups are, I doubt this could be the problem....if one can't pick fuel up the other two will.

The fuel pump is on the ft. right side, if the above is not what you are talking about, please provide more detail of where the foam is located.

Thanks

Extremely doubtful this is the problem. These are to stop water ingestion and they do their job well. It a fuel problem for sure.

My '07 M1000 had the hiccup after the reflash. I had been running 92 octane , stepped down to 89 octane , got better , then to 87 and it's gone. Did not realize that 87 is all that is required in the new A/C's - pays to read I guess. My gas mileage seems to be worse though.

The foam pieces are inside the mesh. All I can say is that after removal and in around 500 Miles I have nat experienced any more troubles. It's an easy fix, save the foam discs and put them back in if you feel it wasn't the problem. Also as I said before, I found the back disc stuck inside the pickup, the middle wasn't. I do consider it possible that in high demand circumstances they could all slam shut. Certainly not gospel just my opinion.

Talked to my dealer Wed, he told me he was notified that the new flash for our computer will be done this summer to fix the bog problem that most of us are having on our 2008 M1000. All I can say is they better get it right or they can take this sled and stick it where the sun don't shine

87 octane is a bit low i think, everyone i ride with runs at leats 91 usally 94 or av gas wich is 100. i run av all the time because of my turbo and have had no problems. some guys tell me that is will dry out my motor, well thats why we have oil isnt? the low octane gas could be your problem or you could ha ve an electrical problem. do you ever have codes flashing at you?

Thats what I heard, if you flash the 07 model they screw up. Just hope they get my 08 worked out

I didn't reflash my 07 because I knew Cat was doing them wrong...bog issues. I lost a crank and they messed with me for 2 months in the prime of winter trying to deny my claim solely because I had not done the reflash. I ended up getting a new motor but they effectively kept me off the snow for the prime of the season...was not happy at all with their warrantee company that took over Cat's warrantee after the first year. My sled was completely stock also...had a buddy that blew his crank with mods all over it and no issues...seems they are doing what they can to deny any issues. I think they've lost their *** on this sled. I had to reflash my sled...it ran perfect. I hope I don't have the bog but am kinda expecting it to be honest. Oh well.
