I need a chest protector

Duvall Dean: I also busted my ribs up 2 yrs ago. Bought the 616 and love it. Won't ride without. Dropped into a gully last year in poor vis and thought I knew where the bottom was. Pinned it about 10 feet to soon and was fully pulled back when I hit the bottom. Bounced off the bars with my chest hard enough to get bucked off. Didn't feel a thing couldn't believe it. Whichever you go with I think there a must. I wear my beacon on the outside of vest so it won't point load my sternum.

Love my new bwear, although my pack is kind of heavy so the top of my shoulder got bruised from it rubbing were the shoulder pieces comes together. I am hoping it will soften up a little.

Got bucked off my last ride and landed hard on my back on some hard pack were it usually would have knocked the wind out of me, I hardly felt it!!

BWEAR is or was by far the best vest when you factor fit, form, flexibility, function, protection, and cost. Problem is they were manufactured one at a time in Quebec and that simply didn't work out. Hand made apparel sold for $200 when you only sell four or five hundred a season doesn't pan out to a real business.

Try to find a used BWEAR that fits you...that is your best bet, followed closely by TEK sport models. We always out sold TEK heads up because their vests fit so poorly under your outer layer. If they would make the shoulder plastic a little less obtrussive it would be a great product.

I always have a twisted chuckle when I hear people complain that they can't wear a protective vest because it's uncomfortable or too confining. Resting on the couch all winter while you nurse back to health or taking a fore-ever dirt nap is a heck of a lot worse then discomfort or your inability to be the world's greatest super sledder. Broken and dead people aren't generally very good riders or companions!

Broke 5 ribs, cracked my sternum, and bruised my heart last year playing sports.

I still have a soft spot on my sternum, can't imagine taking a shot to the chest again, and in this sport things happen fast, real fast. We are all pretty lucky there aren't more injuries in our sport.

I have never worn a chest protector while riding, only knee brace/pads. I have seen others in our club wearing them, and they don't look to bad to wear.

Even though I love sledding, I have a lot more to come home to at the end of the day, I WILL HAVE A VEST SOON!

last Friday I suffered a rib injury and want to prevent that from
ever happening again.

what product is best and price isn't an issue

thanks in advance, DD

Broke a couple ribs while wearing the sixsixone core saver last season jumping.

It's really comfortable though:rolleyes:

I'd look elsewhere for chest/rib protection, save yourself some money and couch time.

why wouldnt a standard motocross chest protector work instead of a tek vest.....they are about a quarter of the price...........

They work ok... I have hit my chest on the bars hard with them and they do good, but they don't work as well with a back pack nor with other layers.

Dean,

Bwear chest protector for me... I also wear knee pads and elbow pads. You know the reason for the elbow pads as you were there that day.. Fricken first day at Baker.....

Just make sure what ever you get, try different sizes on. I noticed that when I first got a large Bwear, that my arm pits would hurt when putting my arms together. I got the medium and the fit was much much better.

I think the sizing is a little large on the chest protectors.

BTW, I wear mine over thin long underwear and maybe a thin fleece. Then my pullover goes on top and that is it. They are pretty warm.

Hope this helps.

Motocross chest protectors are for roost protection. They aren't intended for hard impact protect such as being thrown off the sled and into a tree (that hurts, A LOT).

I use the B-wear.

I wear a Thor motocross chest protector. Went off of a 15ft blow hole in flat light and nosedived into the handle bars with my chest. The steering colume bent forward 6 inches from the upper support. Bent it back with a hydralic press. I have also been thrown into trees with it. Good spine protection etc. I have put it to the test, and they worked great for me. Bruised ego only

Tekvest as a midlayer, can't even feel it till you need it!

Last week I thought I forgot to put it on so I went back into the trailer and opened my jacket...boom there is was on my chest! Didn't even know it was there!

tekvest...B-wear anything is better than nothing, as you found out the hard way!

All I know is I gotta get something. The pain I am in from this rib injury
is a constant reminder of (I NEED ONE)!!!

I have used the 661 armor and Tek as well. I have switched to Moto Armor, it has byfar the best chest, rib, and back protection. It is made from confor foam that was developed for the space program. It is breathable and form fitting so comfort is not an issue. It is designed to absorb shock and distribute impact. The way I came across this vest was my wife ordered one for our son because he races motocross. It was such a good product that I decided to try it for snowmobiling. If you want to find out more about it PM me and I'll point you in the right direction.

I use the older version of this

backpack straps are a non issue

661 core saver

I wear a 661 core saver, good fit not to bulky, have taken the mountaoin bar to the chest a few times, can't even tell. built in kidney belt is nice also.

I just bruised up my ribs the other day too. I was looking at some protectors a few years ago and could'nt find any that fit. At that time B-wear looked like a cheap life vest and tek vest were made to fit a barrel, not a torso! My son had a moose moto cross style vest and broke two ribs the first day he wore it! I would like to get something myself, but mail order does'nt work when something has to fit and all we have is Bob's around here and they have moto cross stuff and tek.
