Eureka

Nick,
You should see what that will do with him on it!!! It's scary. I might let him run Alyeska this year it and his.

we have a group heading up in the morning as well..we park about 3 miles past the lodge at a buddies cabin...we are headed about 50 miles north...some great snow in the hills north of little nelchina(horsepasture, red fox and north)..if ya see us holler..shoud be doug danger on his D-7 buddy on his red summit(or my sons white rmk 600 ho if his dealer didnt get his sled fixed)and a few others....me on my red D-8 ..hope to see you guys and gals...ride safe....
I am not sure how to get over there. I have spent most of my time riding north of the highway. Would like like ride more south towards the glacier. It looks like good riding. I was told that you could ride over the glacier and wind up in Valdez. Is that true. That would be a fun overnight trip if it is true.

We'll have three truckloads of sleds heading up in the AM. Look for a black 700 dragon, 900 RMK, couple of 600 RMK's, MC 800, 700 Crossfire, Yamaha Vector and an Apex. Looking forward to meeting a few forum members! See ya on the hills.

Jarspoon & ak m8, we are gonna meet at 8 at Carrs in Palmer, move sleds to a 4 place behind white full size ford and probably will have a motorhome to follow us as well. We hope to be in Eureka around 10:30. Looking forward to meet ya all!
Oh yeah, there are at least 2 more groups from 4M that will be there as well.
That sounds like a plan. I am dropping my sled at my buddies house (so it does not get stolen from my house again:mad:) and find out what time we are going to leave. 8 am sounds great. So, where in the f**k is Florida?:D

I would not advise trying the valdez trip without someone who has done it(I havent) ..it is very very dangerous even in excellent conditions..and is a spring ride most of the time..as for good riding, heavenly ridge on the southside might be good(havent ridden the south side a whole lot and none in the last 5-6 yrs except 1 trip over heavenly last year....)on the north side go to monument..drop onto the little nelchina river and go left..when the nelchina valley basically ends turn right and go up the little knoll and that is horsepasture from there north the riding is real good...pack fuel and pay attention where you came from..is real easy to get turned around and loose your way...as you go north thru horsepasture pass you wil come to another big valley..river comes from your left and goes to the right (east) before turning north..right at the turn you can ride up off the river and head up thru the notch and that area is redfox...(more great snow)if you work your way east about 5 miles you will have to go either left or right..right takes you out to little nelchina left takes you to tyone river....be safe everyone and have some fun...be fun to meet some more members...

You actually have been over towards Red Fox and Tyone Creek a few years ago ... on four wheelers though :)

I agree that the Eureka to Valdez trip is extremely dangerous even in the best conditions... I'd just as soon drive or ferry over from Whittier to ride in Valdez myself.

Everyone have fun and be safe this weekend :D

Thanks for the info. When the group meets up, I will see where they all want to head. Good snow or bad, it beats a good day at the office!

I remember now. That trip was a blast. I am pretty sure we did 80 miles on that trip. I am sure it will be even more fun on sleds. Did you get that small cast yet? Hope you get to come out and play with all of us soon! Thanks for the info.

I was going to do it few years ago, with a guy from Valdez who knows what he's doing and where he's going. We left early morning from Valdez, drove to the Pass, took a valley ( I am not going to give descriptions so nobody could blame me later for getting lost out there. It's pretty immense!) and then followed bunch of glaciers, valleys and passes till we saw Klutina Lake in a distance. We turned east and went a little further and then suddenly the clouds (that were in a forecast for next day afternoon) rolled in and we could not go either way. We tried to return quickly but there was ZERO visibility, snowing like crazy and the only option was to bail out via Klutina Lake to Copper Center. Nonetheless, it was awesome trip and I will try to do it again, all the way. We put on 145 miles by the end of the day.

That is something I would do it in a heartbeat. I have sheep hunted on the far side of Klutina Lake. It is flat beautiful country back there with lots of really big bears!!!
