Eureka

Wild day.....
Started out of Palmer, my friend forgot to lock the rear door on the enclosed trailer....Car flags us down....door wide open going down the road
Praise God, no damage

Bought food/snacks at gas station before Sutton. Was sick all day from deli sandwiches (pre-made) they sell. After eating we look at the dates...expired several days ago:mad:

Rode Eureka, behind lodge, they just groomed 17 mile loop today if your into that, we didnt ride it. Fair snow (10" of new is real, sugar underneath), lots of alders, buddy snaps his chain & case on a jump

Get back to the truck (mile past lodge on right) and ride the right side of the road. Way better snow!!!! We wished we rode here rather than bushwhack the other side...

Ride home, near Gun site, two sled dog teams on the side of the road tangled up and flipped over. We stop (icy road, no pull offs) to help. It was a mom & daughter and one of the teams was running right down the highway (straight at us) with no driver on the sled. It was totally nuts! dogs everywhere. We unloaded a sled & I went after the loose team down the road (by now a couple miles down the road) My enclosed trailer was full of dogs. One of the teams was so strong we had to use our sled to tie too just to restrain them and they were dragging the sled down the road! Took about two hours to get everything back to their dog truck...

So, If you were any of the wide eyed people driving by....that's what was going on......what a day, still better than working:D
Man, that sounds like you had a blast. I think everyone has one of those days that makes you want to drink!!:beer;:beer; That was cool helping out the dog mushers. It keeps us fellow sledders in good standings with people doing other winter sports.

Your right. Turns out the teams that we helped were scared to death of sleds because they were the ones hit by a sledder last week they said. Some of their dogs were hurt and one had a broken foot from the collision.

Prayin I passed and was wondering what the heck was going on last night. What was the guy on sled looking for a 1/2 mile back on the road towards eureka on the roadside? I agree that snow around there looked good.

Prayn4snow,
Bummer day all in all but way to go helping out the mushers! Not enough people do this kind of thing any more. You would have rep but I must spread some aound it says first. We have alot of mushers in the Caribou Hills here and for the most part, there is good mutual respect here. Speaking of which, the Tusty 200 is this weekend so watchout on the trails for the dog racers. Basically the race runs the groomed snowmachine trails here!

Right on Pray4Snow. You are an awesome man the world needs more people like you. :beer; I could see that the first time I met you at Valdez, always willing to give the shirt off your back.

I thought I saw you go by. That was me on my friends M-7. I was picking up all the stuff the sled lost while it was "Ghost riding" down the middle of the highway with no musher. This is just the tip of the ice burg compared to the rest of the story. It was quite a day....

Right on Prayn

Though now i really feel like an @ss for driving by. We too were wondering what in heck, but figured if we stopped we'd prolly just be in the way.

Eureka was okay I guess, but light sucked bad!!!!! Really cold too.

Anyhow, we must have came thru during the aftermath, about 5:30ish? Glad you guys helped with the sledders/mushers rapport.

A buddy and I are planning on being there. He is leaving for a month and it is my second ride of the year (been to busy killing animals). I have to say it is one of my favorite places to ride. We could mabe set a time to meet, say 10 oclock at the logde? Anyone else game, a mini 4M ride?

Jarspoon & ak m8, we are gonna meet at 8 at Carrs in Palmer, move sleds to a 4 place behind white full size ford and probably will have a motorhome to follow us as well. We hope to be in Eureka around 10:30. Looking forward to meet ya all!
Oh yeah, there are at least 2 more groups from 4M that will be there as well.

what where the temps? I might be heading up there sunday.

Truck said 12, but back in the hill it was in the single digits and the wind was ripping up high. We were frozen when we got stuck in Brier Rabbits brier (alders) patch.

Yes, that was us. I seen your orange sled go by, where did you guys ride. Yes, flat light for most of the day and fought goggles fogging up. I didnt get enough punishment, might go back Sat....

Yep that was us, Orange and Black M's. Going back Sat? We were thinking of LL, but who knows.

My truck said -4 when we left the parking lot to go riding. We went straight toward the hills when we left the lodge. Don't know the area well, and the light was down right scary. Snow was okay though.

Oh yeah, definetly fighting the foggy goggles. I think my eye balls must have been creating ice.
